Isro makes attempt to wake up Chandrayaan-3's lander, no signals so far

ISRO on Friday said it has made efforts to establish communication with its lunar mission Chandrayaan-3's lander Vikram and rover Pragyan to ascertain their 'wake-up condition' after they had been put into sleep mode early this month -- but no signals have been received from them as of now. Attempts to make contact with the lander and rover will continue, the national space agency said on social media platform X. With dawn breaking on the Moon, ISRO attempted to reestablish communication with the lander and rover, to revive them so that they can continue with scientific experiments. Both the lander and the rover were put into sleep mode earlier this month on September 4 and 2 respectively, ahead of the lunar night setting in on Earth's only natural satellite. However, their receivers were kept on. "Efforts have been made to establish communication with the Vikram lander and Pragyan rover to ascertain their wake-up condition. As of now, no signals have been received from them. Effor

Isro's achievement has made every Indian proud: Om Birla on lunar mission

Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla on Thursday said the decision to mark August 23 as 'National Space Day' will inspire future generations to set high goals in life and to work hard to realise them. He also welcomed the naming of the footprint of Chandrayaan-2 on the Moon as 'Tiranga Point', and the landing site of Chandrayaan-3 as 'Shiv Shakti Point'. He felt that these names are a tribute to India's age-old heritage as well as a symbol of its scientific ambitions and efforts. In his opening remarks during a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the success of Chandrayaan-3 mission and other achievements of the nation in the space sector, he said the stupendous achievement of the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has made every Indian proud and the nation's stature has increased at the global level. Noting that India has dedicated the success of Chandrayaan-3 to the world's scientific community and all of humanity, Birla said the valuable information sent by Pragyan rover from the Moon .

CAG pulls up Guj forest dept for ignoring Isro report on wildlife corridors

The Gujarat forest department did not take cognizance of the findings of a scientific study conducted by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) with a recommendation on habitat improvement in potential wildlife corridors in the state, the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) said in a report tabled in the Assembly on Saturday. The CAG's 'Performance Audit of Protection, Conservation and Management of Wildlife Sanctuaries in Gujarat' said ISRO had identified 12 wildlife corridors in its study in 2014 and 2017 and shared it with the forest department with a recommendation on habitat improvement in the potential corridors. The forest department neither conducted any study itself to identify the precise corridors nor took cognizance of the findings of the ISRO study, it said. The corridors thus identified were not included fully in the notified eco-sensitive zones of Balaram Ambaji and Jessore sanctuaries, the report added. Gujarat does not have a state-specific forest policy and t

Was pushed into corner, had to fight entire nation: Nambi Narayanan

Former ISRO scientist Nambi Narayanan on Friday recalled his ordeal of fighting to clear his name in an espionage case as he advised NSUT students to tackle their problems with determination. Narayanan was the chief guest at the first convocation of Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT). "If you have the determination, I am sure you are bound to succeed and there is no reason for you to worry. I was pushed into a corner with some false charges ... I had to fight the entire nation -- the Centre, state government, media, the people and society. I single-handedly fought it and won the case," he said in his address. After a 24-year legal battle, Narayanan cleared his name in the espionage case in 2018. The 1994 case pertained to allegations of transfer of certain confidential documents on India's space programme to foreign countries by two scientists and four others, including two Maldivian women. Recalling the legal battle, Narayanan said, "Of course, it took a long time and

Launch of test vehicle mission for Gaganyaan in a month or two: Isro

The first test vehicle mission of India's ambitious maiden human spaceflight venture Gaganyaan to validate the crew escape system will be launched in a month or two, a key ISRO official said on Friday. According to officials of the Bengaluru-headquartered national space agency, it would be the first of the four abort missions of the Gaganyaan programme. The first test vehicle mission, TV-D1, would be followed by the second test vehicle TV-D2 mission and first uncrewed mission of Gaganyaan (LVM3-G1). The second series of test vehicle missions (TV-D3& D4) and LVM3-G2 mission with robotic payload is planned next. The crewed mission is planned based on the outcome of the successful test vehicle and uncrewed missions, they said. "...immediately what we are now targeting is to validate the crew escape system. In a month or two, the mission will take place from Sriharikota," Gaganyaan Project Director R Hutton said at an international space conference here. According to ISRO ...

Aditya L1 successfully undergoes fourth earth-bound manoeuvre: ISRO

Aditya L1 spacecraft, India's first space-based mission to study the Sun, during the early hours on Friday, underwent the fourth earth-bound manoeuvre successfully, ISRO said. "The fourth Earth-bound manoeuvre (EBN#4) is performed successfully. ISRO's ground stations at Mauritius, Bengaluru, SDSC-SHAR and Port Blair tracked the satellite during this operation, while a transportable terminal currently stationed in the Fiji islands for Aditya-L1 will support post-burn operations," the space agency said in a post on X, a platform formerly known as Twitter. The new orbit attained is 256 km x 121973 km, it said: "The next manoeuvre Trans-Lagragean Point 1 Insertion (TL1I) -- a send-off from the Earth -- is scheduled for September 19, around 02:00 Hrs. IST." Aditya-L1 is the first Indian space-based observatory to study the Sun from a halo orbit around the first Sun-Earth Lagrangian point (L1), which is located roughly 1.5 million km from the Earth. 23 companies interested in Isro's small satellite launch vehicle technology

Seeing the success of ISRO's numerous missions, as many as 23 companies have evinced interest in acquiring the Indian space agency's Small Satellite Launch Vehicle technology, a top official said on Thursday. Chairman of Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACe) Pawan K Goenka said that they are keen to see how the private sector uses the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV) technology. "There has been a tremendous response, 23 companies have (so far) shown interest in applying for this technology. Of course only one of them will get it," he said. IN-SPACe, an autonomous nodal agency under the Department of Space (DOS), formed in 2020 to promote, enable, authorise and supervise non-government entities (NGEs) to undertake space activities, had in July floated an Expression of Interest (EoI) for transfer of technology (ToT) of SSLV with the last date to respond to it being September 25. "Technology transfer is something we are working on very aggressively,
