Delhi Police, Jharkhand ATS nab two suspected ISIS operatives in joint raid

In a joint operation, Delhi Police's Special Cell, Jharkhand Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) and Ranchi police have arrested two suspected ISIS operatives, an official said on Wednesday. The prime accused, identified as Bokaro native Ashar Danish, was arrested from Ranchi, he said. He was wanted in a case registered by the Delhi Police Special Cell related to an ISIS-linked module. Another suspect, Aftab, was apprehended from Delhi during coordinated action carried out simultaneously by the teams, according to police. Preliminary investigation suggests that both were in touch with other members of an ISIS-inspired network and were engaged in activities aimed at furthering the terror outfit's agenda in India, source in the operation said. Danish had been on the radar of security agencies for several months.

Five dead, 1 person missing as heavy rains wreak havoc in Jharkhand

Five people were killed, one person was missing, and several others were injured as heavy rains wreaked havoc in parts of Jharkhand, officials said on Saturday morning. A woman and her seven-year-old son died after their house collapsed in Seraikela-Kharsawan district on Friday night, they said. Eight more people were injured in the incident, which happened in Dandu village in Rajnagar block, they added. "The woman and her son died during treatment at the MGM Hospital in Jamshedpur. Eight others were also injured as the kuchcha house of one Santosh Lohar collapsed," Rajnagar's BDO Malay Das told PTI. The incident happened when relatives were visiting Lohar's house, a police officer said. In another incident in the district, a five-year-old died and three others were injured as the wall of a house collapsed on Saturday morning, police said. The incident happened in Kol Shimla in the Kharsawan police station area, they said. A couple was washed away in a swelling river in Chatra .

Jharkhand govt tables ₹4,296.62 crore supplementary budget for FY26

The Jharkhand government on Friday tabled a supplementary budget of Rs 4,296.62 crore in the assembly for the current fiscal 2025-26. Finance Minister Radhakrishna Kishore tabled the first supplementary budget for this financial year. The debate on the demands is scheduled to be held on August 25. The supplementary demands for the current fiscal were initially scheduled to be presented on August 4, but could not be tabled as the House was adjourned sine die as a mark of respect to former chief minister Shibu Soren, who died on that day. Earlier in March, Kishore tabled the annual budget of Rs 1.45 lakh crore for the financial year 2025-26 in the state assembly.

Jharkhand declares one-day state mourning following minister's death

The Jharkhand government declared a one-day state mourning on Saturday to mark the death of Education Minister Ramdas Soren, an official statement said. The National Flag will be flown at half-mast at all buildings in Jharkhand and no official function will take place, it said. Soren died while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Delhi on Friday night and his body was brought to Ranchi on Saturday morning. "The state government has decided to observe one-day of state mourning on August 16 in honour of the minister, who died in a hospital in Delhi," the statement said. SC tells Jharkhand HC judges to take leave to finish pending verdicts

In a peculiar development, the Supreme Court on Friday suggested the Jharkhand High Court judges to take leaves for penning pending verdicts after observing there were dozens of cases in which judgments weren't pronounced. A bench of Justices Surya Kant and Joymalya Bagchi asked the judges to take their sanctioned leaves and complete the pending work. "There are 61 cases pending. Ask Jharkhand High Court judges to take their sanctioned leaves for 10-12 weeks and write judgements. Nowadays judges have enough leaves left with them. Just get rid of these cases. People need judgements, they are not concerned about jurisprudence or something else. Give a reasoned order on whether relief is denied or allowed," the bench told senior advocate Ajit Sinha, appearing for the Jharkhand high court. Maoist with ₹15 lakh bounty killed in gunfight with security forces: Police

An area commander of the banned Maoist splinter group, People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI), carrying a bounty of Rs 15 lakh on his head, was killed in a gunfight with security forces in Jharkhand's Gumla district, police said on Wednesday. The gunfight between PLFI members and security forces broke out around 9.30 pm on Tuesday in the Changabadi Upartoli area under the Kamdara Police Station limits when forces were carrying out a search operation, a senior officer said. "As security forces reached Changabadi Upartoli, Maoists started firing at them. Security personnel also retaliated, in which PLFI area commander Martin Kerketta was killed. A weapon was also recovered from his possession," Gumla superintendent of police (SP) Haris Bin Zaman told PTI. The Gumla SP said he had received a tip-off about the presence of some Maoists in the area, and accordingly, a special team was set up to carry out the operation. The search operation is still going on, the SP added.

A day after veteran tribal leader Shibu Soren, fondly known as 'Dishom Guru', died, Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren said that his father's fight against injustice would continue. The CM also said he was passing through the most difficult phase of his life after the demise of his father. The Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) co-founder breathed his last at a Delhi hospital at the age of 81 after battling illness. "I am passing through the most difficult phase of my life; the pillar of Jharkhand's soul is gone. No book can explain Baba's struggle, but I vow to continue his fight against injustice," the Jharkhand CM posted on X. Soren promised not to let Jharkhand bow and vowed to work to realise his father's dreams by working for the oppressed and the poor. The JMM leader said he will put his feet in his father's shoes to wage a war against injustice.

Rajya Sabha proceedings on Monday were adjourned for the day as a mark of respect following the death of sitting MP Shibu Soren. JMM founder and three time Jharkhand chief minister Soren, 81, died on Monday. Jharkhand minister Ramdas Soren in critical condition after brain injury

Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren, who is admitted to a Delhi hospital after he suffered severe brain injury from a fall on Saturday, is in a critical condition, a source said.
