Condemning the arrest of JMM leader Hemant Soren, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday said the people of Jharkhand will deliver a "resounding response" to it. Stating that Soren was a close friend, Banerjee "vowed" to stand "unwaveringly" by his side. "I strongly condemn the unjust arrest of Shri Hemant Soren, a powerful tribal leader. The oath-taking ceremony will be held around 12.15 pm at the Durbar Hall of the Raj Bhavan here, they said. Speaking to PTI, Kendriya Sarna Samiti president Ajay Tirkey said 15-20 tribal organisations from across the state will join the shutdown. "Despite cooperating with the ED in the investigation, Hemant Soren was arrested. We protest this," he said. Tirkey said that emergency services would not be hampered by the shutdown. "We will not disturb schools if they were opened on Thursday," he added. Jharkhand Governor C P Radhakrishnan Tuesday met senior government officers and took stock of security arrangements in the wake of the unfolding political situation, following ED's search at the Delhi residence of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren, a top official said. Radhakrishnan called Chief Secretary Lalbiaktluanga Khiangte, Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avinash Kumar, among others, at the Raj Bhavan here, Director General of Police, Ajay Kumar Singh, told PTI. Elaborate security arrangements have been made across the state to maintain law and order, including deployment of an additional 7,000 policemen, he said. Prohibitory orders have also been imposed in key areas of Ranchi, including near the CM House, the Raj Bhavan and ED office at Doranda, from 10 am to 10 pm, officials said.
