Covid-19 pandemic: Karnataka reports 5,019 new cases and 39 deaths

Karnataka on Thursday reported 5,019 new cases of COVID-19 and 39 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,17,119 and toll to 39,534. There were 13,923 discharges today, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,25,538, a Health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 2,315 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 5,739 people being discharged and 17 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 52,013. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 4.25 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.77 per cent. Of the 39 deaths, 17 are from Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru (5), Dakshina Kannada (3), Dharwad and Mysuru (2), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru recorded the second highest number of cases with 261, followed by Tumakuru (234), Ballari (220), Belagavi (196), Kodagu (171) and Shivamogga (141) among others. Cement firm ACC bags Kannur Limestone Block in Karnataka

Cement maker ACC Ltd on Thursday said it has been declared as successful bidder for Kannur Limestone Block in Karnataka. Through this mining block, the company has secured estimated limestone resources above 250 million tonnes, ACC said in a statement without disclosing its bid amount. This limestone block is in close proximity to the company's existing Wadi cement plant, it added. ACC, a subsidiary of Swiss building material major Holcim group (earlier LafargeHolcim), had participated in an e-auction of the block, located in Kalburgi district of Karnataka. "Department of Mines & Geology, Government of Karnataka has declared ACC as the successful bidder for Kannur, Wadi Area, Limestone Block in the State of Karnataka, ACC said. On Wednesday, ACC had reported a 40.55 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 280.85 crore for the quarter ended on December 31, 2021, due to adverse input inflation. Covid: 5,339 new cases in Karnataka, 48 deaths; positivity rate 4.14%

Karnataka on Wednesday reported 5,339 new cases of COVID-19 and 48 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,12,100 and toll to 39,495. There were 16,749 discharges today, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,11,615, a health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 2,161 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 6,883 people being discharged and 16 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 60,956. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 4.14 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 0.89 per cent. Of the 48 deaths, 16 are from Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada (5), Ballari (4), Chitradurga and Tumakuru (3), Dharwad, Kolar, Mandya, Mysuru, Shivamogga and Uttara Kannada (2), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Tumakuru recorded the second highest number of cases with 342, Belagavi 327, Mysuru 293, Shivamogga 185, Ballari 173 and Mandya 158. There were 19,067 discharges today, pushing the total number of recoveries to 37,94,866, a health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 2,139 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 8,604 people being discharged and 17 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 72,414. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 5.01 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 1.14 per cent. Of the 51 deaths, 17 are from Bengaluru Urban, Dakshina Kannada (7), Kolar and Tumakuru (4), Ballari and Mysuru (3), Chitradurga, Dharwad and Udupi (2), followed by others.
