Covid-19: Karnataka reports 1,405 new cases, 26 deaths in last 24 hours

Karnataka on Tuesday reported 1,405 new cases of COVID-19 and 26 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,29,642 and death toll to 39,691. There were 5,762 discharges, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,63,085, a Health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 765 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 2,548 people being discharged and 6 virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 26,832. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 1.91 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 1.85 per cent. Of the 26 deaths, six are from Bengaluru Urban; Dakshina Kannada (4), Ballari (3), Dharwad, Hassan and Udupi (2), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Mysuru recorded the second highest number of cases at 66, followed by Belagavi and Udupi (50), Tumakuru (48) and Dakshina Kannada (47) among others. Karnataka on Monday reported 1,568 new cases of COVID-19 and 25 fatalities, taking the tally to 39,28,237 and death toll to 39,665. There were 6,025 discharges, pushing the total number of recoveries to 38,57,323, a health bulletin said. Of the new cases, 754 were from Bengaluru Urban that saw 2,089 people being discharged and five virus-related deaths. The total number of active cases across the state is now 31,215. While the positivity rate for the day stood at 2.25 per cent, the case fatality rate (CFR) was 1.59 per cent. Of the 25 deaths, five are from Bengaluru Urban; Belagavi, Bidar, Dakshina Kannada, Dahrwad, Tumakuru and Udupi (two each), followed by others. After Bengaluru Urban, Shivamogga recorded the second highest number of cases with 91, Mysuru 78, Belagavi 63, Dakshina Kannada 55, Ballari 50, followed by others. Cement firm ACC bags Kannur Limestone Block in Karnataka

Cement maker ACC Ltd on Thursday said it has been declared as successful bidder for Kannur Limestone Block in Karnataka. Through this mining block, the company has secured estimated limestone resources above 250 million tonnes, ACC said in a statement without disclosing its bid amount. This limestone block is in close proximity to the company's existing Wadi cement plant, it added. ACC, a subsidiary of Swiss building material major Holcim group (earlier LafargeHolcim), had participated in an e-auction of the block, located in Kalburgi district of Karnataka. "Department of Mines & Geology, Government of Karnataka has declared ACC as the successful bidder for Kannur, Wadi Area, Limestone Block in the State of Karnataka, ACC said. On Wednesday, ACC had reported a 40.55 per cent decline in its consolidated net profit to Rs 280.85 crore for the quarter ended on December 31, 2021, due to adverse input inflation. Its revenue from operations in October-December 2021 was up 1.95 per cent
