The Rajasthan government on Thursday directed medical officials to remain 'alert' regarding any Nipah outbreak in the wake of cases being reported from Kerala's Kozhikode district. The medical and health services department director has issued an advisory in this regard to the principals of all medical colleges and chief medical and health officers of all districts. The department has also issued an advisory for health workers. The brain-damaging virus has killed two people and infected three others in Kozhikode district. A five-member central team has been stationed in Kerala to take stock of the situation and assist the state government in managing the situation.
A report of the Comptroller and Auditor General of India (CAG) on Kerala's revenue sector for the financial year 2021-22 has found that the state's revenue collection had decreased by 10 per cent from what it was in 2017-18, while the receipts from the Centre had increased. The report, tabled in the assembly on Thursday, said that during the year 2021-22, the revenue collected by the state government decreased to 59 per cent from 69 per cent in 2017-18. At the same time, the receipts from the Centre increased to 41 per cent that year from the 31 per cent in 2017-18, it said. The report also said that even though the revenue raised by the state government during the year 2021-22 shows an increase from the previous year of 2020-21, the percentage of revenue raised by it to total revenue receipts has reduced when compared with that of 2017-18, 2018-19 and 2019-20 financial years. In the wake of the Nipah outbreak in Kozhikode district of Kerala, due to which two people lost their lives and three others have tested positive for the virus, the only available experimental treatment -- monoclonal antibody -- was delivered to the state by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) on Thursday. Former Health Minister and senior ruling CPI(M) MLA K K Shailaja says Kerala has nothing to worry about the Nipah outbreak in Kozhikode as the situation is not as scary as it was in 2018. Senior BJP-Sangh Parivar leader P P Mukundan died at a private hospital here on Wednesday, party sources said. He was 77. His end came while he was undergoing treatment for lung-related ailments at the hospital, they said. Joining the RSS during his school days, Mukundan led the Sangh Parivar and the BJP from the front for decades in the state, particularly after the formation of the saffron party in 1980. He was a pracharak of the RSS for 41 years from 1966 to 2007. Born in Kottiyoor in Kannur district, Mukundan was arrested and put behind bars during the emergency. He was working as the pracharak of the RSS in Thrissur district at the time. After being drafted into the BJP, Mukundan rose to become the party's state organisational general secretary in 1990. He had been keeping away from active politics for quite some time.
