Special camps will be organised in all district headquarters of Rajasthan to give government jobs to family members of those martyrs whose dependents have not yet been given employment, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje said on Saturday. Raje made the announcement at a public meeting in Barmer district during her pre-poll tour 'Rajasthan Gaurav Yatra'. She said the state government has decided to give employment to at least one person from the family of those who were martyred after 1947 but none of their kin was given a job. Chairman of State Soldier Welfare Advisory Committee Prem Singh Bajor said in a statement that there were more than 1,100 such martyrs in the state whose kin had not been given government jobs. Now, he said, one dependent (blood relative) of those martyrs will get a job through the special camps which will be organised from September 15. The first camp will be held in Jhunjhunu, Bajor said.

The Calcutta High Court today held that dearness allowance (DA) was a legal right of West Bengal government employees. A division bench comprising Justices Debasish Kar Gupta and Sekhar Bobby Saraf set aside a State Administrative Tribunal (SAT) order that had said that DA cannot be claimed as a right by the state government employees. The bench held that the employees' claim for DA as per the central government DA rates would be decided by the SAT, which was asked by the court to rehear the issue. It also asked the tribunal to decide whether the state government was justified to pay differential rates to its employees posted at Delhi and Chennai. The division bench observed that the central government fixes DA of its employees across the country at the same rate without discriminating on the place of posting. The court said it cannot be said that employees in Kolkata were affected differently from inflation compared to those posted in Delhi or Chennai. During an argument of the
Congress members today accused the Uttar Pradesh government of not being serious in providing employment to youths and staged a walkout in the state Assembly as a mark of protest. The matter was raised during Question Hour by Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Ajay Kumar Lallu who sought to know from the government as to how many jobs were provided to youths in the past financial year. The government is in talks with India Inc to assess its demand and needs for skilled manpower, Minister of State for Skill Development and Entrepreneurship Anant Kumar Hegde said today. "The voices being raised here and there asking where is employment creation. In reality we had no data regarding this earlier but now we are capturing the data. Presently, the demand (for skilled persons) is over 20 lakh and in 5-6 months it may reach over a crore in the organised sector," Hegde said on the sidelines of an event here. IT firm Cognizant today said it has set up a new regional technology and service delivery centre in Texas, US that will facilitate creation of 1,100 new jobs by 2023. The opening follows a November 2017 announcement by Texas Governor Greg Abbott on the company's plan to invest more than USD 8 million to expand in Irving, Texas, Cognizant said in a statement. The company has been significantly ramping up headcount in the US in a bid to woo the Trump administration that has been critical of outsourcing firms for unfairly taking jobs away from American workers. Astudy conducted by the University of West England analysed 5,000 rail passengers and found that 54 per cent spent their journey to work looking at emails. The researchers concluded that wider internet access on trains had caused a "blurring of boundaries" between life at home and work for the workforce in Britain. Nine construction workers from West Bengal have been rescued in Malaysia who were stuck there, Congress MP Mausam Noor said today. The nine men had gone to the country between May and June with help of an agent but did not receive benefits as per the contract. Their passports were also taken, Noor, the Lok Sabha MP of Malda Uttar constituency said in a statement. The Indian High Commission to Malaysia today informed Noor that the workers have been rescued, the statement said. The high commission also informed Noor that it was arranging for sending the workers back home. The incident came to light after the workers contacted their family members here, who sought help from Noor. He informed the Indian High Commission to Malaysia about their condition on August 28 following which it started the rescue work, the statement said. The shipping ministry today signed a new wage settlement pact with employees at state-run ports, under which workers will get a 10.6 per cent hike, which will cost the ministry Rs 560 crore per year. Under the agreement, signed between worker unions and the management in presence of Union minister Nitin Gadkari here, workers and pensioners will get a 10.6 per cent 'fitment' on basic pay and dearness allowance for a five year period starting 2017. "Overall financial implication by this settlement for all the major ports for serving and pensioners is likely to be about Rs 560 crore per annum," an official statement said today, adding 32,000 workers and 1.05 lakh group C&D pensioners will benefit through the wage hike. The last hike was of 10.5 per cent, but this is the first time that the negotiations have happened in a cordial way where the workers have not resorted to any industrial action to press for their demands, Mumbai Port Trust chairman Sanjay Bhatia ...
