HC grants interim bail to Lava MD Hari Om Rai in money laundering case

The Delhi High Court on Friday granted interim bail for three months to Hari Om Rai, MD of Lava International mobile company, in a money laundering case involving smartphone maker Vivo. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma gave relief to 57-year-old Rai on account of his "life-threatening" heart disease, saying he must be given an opportunity to be treated in the hospital of his choice. "The delicate balance between life and death in cardiac emergencies underscores the importance for prioritization and specialized care required in such cases, for mitigating the profound risks posed by these medical conditions. "Each passing moment in the face of cardiac distress is fraught with the peril of irreversible harm, and in case of any eventuality that may occur in applicant not getting proper and specialised treatment, this Court will have to bear the weight of regret," the court said in the order. Lava, Qubo lead in customer ratings among Indian brands, says Techarc

Domestic smart electronics companies like Lava and Qubo are getting high ratings and are competing neck and neck with their global peers in terms of brand acceptance, market analysis firm Techarc said on Sunday. The firm conducted a study based on ratings received by 25 brands across 35 different product categories on e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart in December. "In our analysis, we found that of the global counterparts of Lava including brands like Realme and Redmi, the average weighted rating of consumers on ecommerce platforms was 4.3. Against this Lava scored 4.2 which is just touching the industry benchmark," the report said. Techarc said that Lava scored a higher proportion of high ratings (4 and 5) at 90.2 per cent compared to the global brands which had 75.8 per cent of its consumer ratings scoring 4 or 5. Volcano erupts in southwest Iceland, send lava flowing towards settlement

A volcano has erupted in southwestern Iceland, sending semi-molten rock spewing toward a nearby settlement for the second time in less than a month. The eruption on Sunday morning came after a swarm of earthquakes near the town of Grindavik, the Icelandic Meteorological Office said. The community was evacuated overnight, Iceland's RUV television reported. Lava is flowing a few hundred metres north of the town, this is 400 to 500 metres,' Kristn Jnsdttir from the Icelandic Meteorological Office told Iceland's RUV television. Court reserves order on bail plea of Lava MD in Vivo money laundering case

A court here on Monday reserved its order on the bail application of Hari Om Rai, the managing director of Lava International Company arrested in a money laundering case against Chinese smartphone-maker Vivo. Additional Sessions Judge Kiran Gupta reserved the order for January 12 after hearing the arguments of the counsels appearing for the accused and the Enforcement Directorate (ED). Senior advocate Vikaram Chaudhari and advocate Nitesh Rana, appearing for Rai, told the court that he has several medical ailments, and due to these, "keeping him in jail might be disastrous". "Although the doctors in jail are good, but keeping him there will worsen his condition," the court was told by the advocates. The application was opposed by the ED. The agency said that if released on bail, the accused may tamper with evidence or influence witnesses. Arrested MD of Lava International Company Hari Om Rai told a court here Wednesday that merely because the Sino-India relations have deteriorated over the years, it would not mean that he committed an offence at a time when there were, in fact, friendly business relations between the two countries. The accused, arrested in a money laundering case against Chinese phone-maker Vivo, made the submissions through his lawyer before Special Judge Tarun Yogesh during the hearing of his bail application. Vivo PMLA case: Court sends Lava MD, Chinese national to judicial custody

A court here on Wednesday sent Lava International MD Hari Om Rai and Chinese national Guangwen Kuang to judicial custody till October 30 in a money laundering case against Chinese smartphone maker Vivo. Additional Sessions Judge Devender Kumar Jangala, however, extended by two days the custodial interrogation of co-accused Nitin Garg. The court passed the order on an application moved by the Enforcement Directorate. The three accused were produced before the court on completion of their ED custody granted earlier. They were arrested under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The smartphone company has denied the allegations. Vivo has constantly denied the allegations.
