School principal killed in Gurgaon

A woman was attacked with a blunt object and killed at her home in Palam Vihar area of Gurgaon allegedly over a property dispute in the extended family, a police officer said Sunday. Savinder Kaur, the principal of a Pune-based private school, was found dead in her bedroom on the first floor of the bungalow with couple of injuries on her head, said Shamsher Singh, ACP (crime). According to her son Prabsharan Singh's statement to police, Kaur had called him up when he was returning home from his office. She told him she was attacked with a blunt object and sought immediate help. The son informed his father Sukhbir Singh, who had gone to the Sector 22 market nearby, to rush home immediately. Sukhbir Singh reached home at 7.50pm but could not enter the residence as the door was locked from inside. Haryana: ASI, providing security to murder case witness, killed in firing incident

An assistant sub-inspector, providing security to a witness in a murder case, was killed here after three men fired on them on Sunday, police said, claiming that their target was the witness. Suresh Pal had been assigned to provide security to Rambir, who is a witness in a 2018 murder case of a private school teacher, they said. Police said Rambir was getting threats from unknown persons and therefore, he was provided security cover. On Sunday afternoon, Rambir was sitting at his car service centre in Naraingarh when three persons came on a motorcycle and enquired about issues related to the servicing of their vehicle, they said. One of the assailants pulled out a gun and took aim at Rambir and fired, but the bullet hit Pal, police said. The assistant sub-inspector was rushed to the civil hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. Two masked men commit burglary at cafe in Connaught Place

Two masked men allegedly committed burglary at a cafe in Connaught Place on Sunday, police said. In a CCTV footage, the two masked men could be seen taking cash, liquor and other valuables from the cafe at around 5.30 am, they said. In his complaint to police, Surojit Kar, the manager of the cafe, said his staff found the lock of the shutter broken at around 10 am and over Rs 1 lakh, tabs, mobile phones and expensive imported liquor were stolen. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (New Delhi) said a case has been registered in this regard. 3 arrested for arson before Arunachal BJP chief's house

The arson in front of Arunachal Pradesh BJP chief's private residence was linked to the Permanent Resident Certificate (PRC) issue, the police said Sunday after arresting three persons in connection with last Friday's incident. A person drove a car, parked it in front of Arunachal BJP president Tapir Gao's private residence here Friday morning and set it on fire before slaughtering a dog. It was found out that the person, Tongam Jomoh who was one of the three arrested persons, set his own car afire and the dog he had slaughtered was also owned by him, Capital SP Tumme Amo told reporters here. During interrogation, Jomoh claimed that he was against Gao as he was behind the PRC issue and he had also given party tickets to two non-tribals in the recently held assembly polls in the state, the SP said. Iran sentences journalist to two years in jail

Iran's judiciary on Sunday sentenced a journalist to two years in jail for "spreading misinformation" and "insulting" the country's supreme leader and authorities, his lawyer told state media. Masoud Kazemi was also banned from "media activities" for two years, the lawyer Ali Mojtahedzadeh said, quoted by the official news agency IRNA. Mexico says detects measles in British tourist

Mexican health officials have confirmed a case of measles in a British woman who arrived in the country's touristic Caribbean coast a week ago, authorities said on Saturday. The 50-year-old woman arrived Monday at the airport in Cancun with a final destination of Playa del Carmen, the area's second most frequented resort. "Upon presenting signs and symptoms of illness she sought medical attention at a private hospital, where they were recognised as a probable case of measles," the Health Ministry said in a statement. Four held for stabbing youth in J&K

Four persons, including a notorious criminal, were arrested on Sunday for allegedly stabbing a man in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, police said. The accused were identified as Kapoor Singh, Vishav Rasyal, Rajinder Singh alias Rinku and Sachin Singh, who is a history-sheeter, they said. The four had been on the run after they intercepted and stabbed a youth, Irfan Iqbal, on May 29 over an old rivalry, a senior officer said. A case was registered and after hectic efforts, police succeeded in nabbing all the four accused, he said. Following disclosures by the accused, a sharp weapon was recovered from Baradari Reasi, the police said, adding that two cars used in the commission of the crime were also recovered. Of the four accused, Sachin is facing trial in many cases. He had been booked under the Public Safety Act and was released about six months ago, the police said.

Indian arrested for running international call bypass racket in Nepal

A 36-year-old Indian man has been arrested in Nepal for illegally operating international calls that caused millions of rupees loss to the Himalayan nation's telecom department, police said on Sunday. Khursed Ansari, a resident of Sunauli in Uttar Pradesh, was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation of Nepal Police from Kathmandu on charges of operating call bypass, a statement issued by the Nepal Police said. The police also recovered a laptop, airtel 4G device, routers and 16 simcards from the accused, the statement said. The police have initiated further investigation into the matter after taking Ansari in custody. Man gets life sentence for killing labourer in Sikar

A man was awarded life sentence for killing a labourer in the district here. District and Session Judge Devendra Prakash Sharma convicted Tilakraj for killing Manglial in April 2017 and awarded him life sentence, public prosecutor Shiv Ratan Sharma said. "Tilakraj was in an illicit relationship with Mangilal's wife. When Mangilal objected, Tilakraj hit him with a heavy object," the prosecutor said. Police arrested Manglial on the basis of mobile call records and a chargesheet was filed against him under relevant sections of IPC. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Manglial.

Telangana: Three of a family drown in quarry

Three members of a family including two women and a child drowned in a quarry, said PV Padmaja, DCP, Balanagar on Sunday."Today afternoon three members of the same family, Anitha, 30 years old, her son Yeshwanth 10 years old and her close relative Ayyamma, 60 years were attending a function in Jagadgiri gutta area. Meanwhile, they came to a quarry which is located in the same area for bathing and swimming. Custodial torture: Murder case against eight absconding cops

A case of murder was registered against eight absconding policemen here after a man who was allegedly beaten up in custody died Saturday night. Omprakash Pandey, who had sustained a brain injury because of the alleged custodial torture, died at a private hospital, said assistant commissioner of police (special branch) P L Chaudhari Sunday. Wanted criminal, Chaand Babu, arrested in Lucknow

The Uttar Pradesh Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested wanted criminal Chaand Babu from the domestic airport here, the special police force said Sunday. In a statement issued here, Superintendent of Police, ATS, UP, Rajkaran Nayyar said, "On the request of the UP ATS, the Intelligence Bureau had issued a Look Out Circular (LOC) against Chand Babu.
