UP: Advocate shot dead in Phaphamau by bike-borne assailants

A 50-year-old advocate, Sushil Patel, was shot dead here in Phaphamau by bike-borne assailants on June 23, police said.The incident took place near Tiwaripur village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Soraon Police Station."At around 7.30am Patel left for his home. He was shot dead by assailants at a railway line. We received information about the incident and when we reached here, we got to know that he was declared brought dead in the hospital. The reason behind his murder is yet to be ascertained," Vice Chairperson of UP Bar Council said while speaking to media persons here."We want a proper and rapid investigation in the case and also an aid of Rs 20 lakh for the victim's family," he said."We have registered a case and his body is being sent for post-mortem," Prayagraj SSP Atul Sharma said.

Two held in Dwarka couple murder case

Delhi Police on Sunday arrested two men in connection with the Mohan Garden (Dwarka) couple murder case.The main accused has been identified as Vikas alias Vinod and the other as Santosh Rai.According to the police, Vikas had a liking for the couple's daughter and murdered her parents to get them out of the way. He allegedly attacked and murdered the wife, Shanti Singh (47), first using a knife and then killed her husband Hari Ballabh (51). The daughter, however, was unaware of the crime.Vikas is already married and his family lives in Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh. "We interrogated every relative and close friend of the family. We also obtained CCTV footage of the area. Vikas alias Vinod from Gwalior is an MBA graduate. We found contradictions in his statements. 60-yr-old neighbour held for molesting minor in Telangana's Medchal

A 60-year-old man was arrested for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old girl here in Medchal, police said. The incident occurred on June 22.The accused was identified as Venkataiah.While speaking to ANI, Circle Inspector of Jawaharnagar police station, Saidulu, said: "A seven-year-old girl, who is studying in 2nd standard, was playing outside her residence on June 22. Her neighbour Venkataiah took her to the roof of his residence and tried to molest her. The incident was noticed by the locals and they caught the man and tied him to a pole and informed the matter to us."As soon as the complaint was received, police immediately reached the spot and took the accused into custody.The girl was sent for a medical check-up and later handed over to her parents.A case under section 354 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 12 of the POCSO Act has been registered.The accused has been sent to judicial remand.

Woman journalist shot at in east Delhi, family dispute suspected

A woman journalist was shot at allegedly by two masked men in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area in a suspected case of family dispute, police said Sunday. The 38-year-old woman -- Mitali Chandola -- received bullet injury in the arm and is out of danger, they said. The incident took place in the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when Chandola was going somewhere in her car around 12.30 am. Another car suddenly overtook her's and opened fire targeting her, police said. In her statement to police, the woman said she was on her Hyundai i20 car when two masked men in another car chased and tried to stop her. They first threw some eggs on the front class of her car and when she did not stop, they fired two rounds at her, a senior police officer said. 30-yr-old arrested for killing blind music teacher, wife in Delhi's Dwarka area

The Delhi Police Sunday arrested a man in connection with the stabbing of a 51-year-old blind music teacher and his wife in Dwarka's Mohan Garden area, apparently over their objection to his proposal to marry their daughter. The accused, identified as Vishal Singh (30), a resident of Gwalior district in Madhya Pradesh, had met the victims about one-and-a-half years ago and was living with them as a family member, police said, adding that he worked for PayTM. According to a senior police officer, the accused confessed to his crime. A knife used in the murder, Rs 1,40,500 cash looted from the house and his blood-stained clothes have been recovered, he added. Telangana: 40 stray dogs killed by civic body, 4 officials suspended

The civic body suspended four of its officials on Sunday after at least 40 stray dogs have been allegedly killed by the Municipal staff here.Speaking to ANI, Joel Davis, Commissioner of Police Siddipet said, "Yesterday evening we received a complaint from an organization Compassionate Society for Animals in Siddipet Town Police Station stating that the Siddipet Municipal Corporation has allegedly poisoned 40 stray dogs and buried them in the dump yard."We have registered a case under section 428 and 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Section 11 of Prevention of Cruelty Against Animals Act. ULFA(I) cadre arrested in Assam

An ULFA(I) cadre was arrested Sunday from Charaideo district, police said. The cadre has been identified as Surajit Limboo alias Rituparna Asom, a spokesperson of the Assam Police said. Delhi reports 9 murders in 24 hrs; AAP blames Centre for deteriorating law and order

Delhi reported nine murders in three separate incidents since Saturday, prompting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to blame the Centre over the "deteriorating" law and order. 25-yr-old arrested over death threat to Delhi BJP chief Manoj Tiwari

A 25-year-old unemployed man was arrested on Sunday for allegedly sending a death threat to Delhi BJP president Manoj Tiwari through an SMS saying he was under "extreme compulsion" to eliminate the leader, police said. The accused was identified as Guddu, alias Vishwajeet, a resident of Mahipalpur here. He hails from Buxar, in Bihar, they added. He told police that he found Tiwari's contact number online and sent him a death threat to seek attention, a senior officer said. "He has been arrested as a preventive measure," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) Atul Kumar Thakur said. The Delhi BJP chief received the message at 12.52 pm on Friday which he saw on Saturday evening and immediately informed police, he told PTI. One arrested after Manoj Tiwari receives death threat

Delhi Police arrested a person on Sunday for allegedly threatening Delhi BJP chief and MP Manoj Tiwari.The accused is identified as Vishwajeet alias Guddu. MP: Four jail guards suspended after 4 inmates escaped in Neemuch

Four guards were suspended after four prisoners escaped from a jail in Neemuch district in the wee hours of Sunday."Four guards have been suspended in the case. It seems the crime has been committed after much planning. They have taken support from outsiders," Neemuch-Ujjain Police Commissioner Ajit Kumar said.The police have registered an FIR and are investigating the case. Woman dies, ten people hospitalised after consuming toddy: Police

A 40-year-old woman died and 10 other persons were taken ill after allegedly consuming adulterated toddy in Bilriyaganj area of the district, police said Sunday. Superintendent of Police Triveni Singh said some people, mostly farm labourers, consumed adulterated toddy on saturday after sowing paddy. "After consuming the brew, they began falling sick one after one and by midnight,10 persons were hospitalised," said Singh. "The woman, Raji died on way to hospital," he said. Abducted girl rescued from Udaipur; two held

A 17-year-old girl from Akot in Maharashtra's Akola district, who was allegedly abducted by two persons under the pretext of marriage and sexually abused in Rajasthan, has been rescued, police said Sunday. While one of the accused, Ravindra Zagade (23), has been arrested another one, who is a minor, has been detained. A missing person complaint was lodged by parents of the girl on June 16, a senior police officer said. During investigation it came to light that Zagade and the minor have also been missing from the village. Meanwhile, police received information that the duo have abducted the girl and taken her to Vapi in Gujarat and then to Udaipur in Rajasthan, he said. Cop burns alive as car catches fire after collision

A police sub-inspector on his way home after attending engagement of his daughter was charred to death Sunday when his car caught fire following a collision with a truck near Panwadi village in Madhya Pradesh's Rajgarh district, police said. Man booked for duping real estate developer of Rs 73 lakh

A man has been booked in Thane for allegedly duping a real estate developer of Rs 73 lakh, police said Sunday. The man had promised the victim of a housing complex redevelopment contract in October, 2017 but later reneged after he pocketed the money, a Naupada police station official said. "Documents of the redevelopment contract given by the accused to the victim turned out to be forged," he said. Miscreants injure Home Guard jawan in Purnea district

A Home Guard jawan was injured when miscreants fired at him as he tried to stop the motorcycle-borne criminals at a checkpost in Purnea district on Sunday, a police officer said. The injured jawan has been identified as Raj Kapoor Yadav who received a bullet injury in his waist, Baisi Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Manoj Ram said. The jawan, a resident of Rahua village under K Nagar police station of the district, was deputed at the excise department's checkpost at Dalkola.
