Woman found dead in Kandivali home, kin allege foul play

A 22-year-old woman was Sunday found dead in her home in Ganesh Nagar area of Kandivali, police said. An official said Fahim Inam Bastiwala's body had strangulation marks and had been sent to BMC-run Bhagwati Hospital for post mortem. Some relatives of the woman have alleged foul play on the part of her husband, and police were investigating this angle, he added.

Cong attacks UP govt over alleged atrocities against women, young girls

The Congress Sunday slammed the BJP government in Uttar Pradesh over alleged atrocities against women and girls, alleging that a "jungle raj-like eclipse" has been cast over law and order in the state. Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala alleged that under the Yogi Adityanath rule, the trend of atrocities against women and innocent girls continues. Bargari sacrilege case key accused's murder: Security up, Dera members demand judicial probe

Dera Sacha Sauda members who gathered at Kotkapura in Punjab after a sect follower, a key accused in the 2015 Bargari sacrilege case was killed inside Nabha prison, have demanded judicial probe into the incident. Tight security measures were put in place across Punjab and in Kotkapura town in Faridkot to prevent any untoward incident, a day after Mahinderpal Bittu was killed allegedly by two inmates in high-security Nabha prison. Elderly man held for "molesting" girl in Hyderabad

A minor girl was allegedly molested by a 60-year-old man here, following which the accused was arrested Sunday, police said. The accused, who happens to be the neighbour, lured the girl when she was playing infront of her house Saturday evening and took her to the terrace of a building nearby and "misbehaved" with her, they said. Another neighbour who noticed it, alerted the girl's parents, who along with some locals caught hold of the accused, they added. The elderly man was tied to the pole and thrashed by the public before being handed over to the police. Based on a complaint from the parents, a case under IPC section 354 (molestation) and under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act was registered, the police said.

Burglar held in Hyderabad, USD 5,000 recovered

A burglar allegedly involved in several cases was arrested here and USD 5,000 recovered from him, police said Sunday. Three officials suspended after Bargari case accused murdered in jail

A day after Bargari sacrilege case accused Mohinder Pal Bittu was murdered in his high-security cell in New Nabha Prison, Jail Minister Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa on Sunday said three officials have been suspended and a magisterial enquiry is underway."Jail cell in-charge and two other officials have been suspended. Both the accused were arrested from the spot and a case has been registered against them. A magisterial enquiry is also underway," Randhawa told ANI.Bittu, who was also a Dera Sacha Sauda follower, was murdered by two other inmates - Gurusewak Singh and Mahinder Singh - at around 05:00 pm on Saturday in Patiala's Nabha Jail."Mohinder was kept in a high-security special cell to avoid such incident. Spending in bar lands burglary suspect in police net

Suspected burglar Riaz Khan might have enjoyed his freedom for some more time but he chose to pamper himself by spending lavishly in a bar, an act that landed him in the long hands of law, a Thane police official said Sunday. Khan had attracted attention of a police informer as he was spending a lot of money on his booze in the bar in the city. According to a senior officer of Manpada police station, when a team of officials rushed to the bar to check on the man they were unaware that they are going to net a wanted criminal. Khan has spilled beans on his role into robbing at least six warehouses with the help of his aides, the officer said. Police have recovered stolen goods worth Rs 8.56 lakh from Khan, Rafique Shaikh, and Prakash Suryavanshi, he added. In separate cases, police arrested six persons and recovered stolen items, including jewellery, motorcycles and mobile phones. In another incident, police have arrested a suspected chain-snatcher and recovered Rs 12,000 .

3 Pakistanis detained with gold worth over 4 lakh on Thar Express

Three Pakistani nationals were detained for illegally carrying gold worth Rs 4.28 lakh on the Thar Express, which was on its way from Pakistan, an official said Sunday. The 130 gm gold was seized late on Saturday night at Munabao railway station in Barmer from three passengers of the train that runs weekly between the two countries, a customs official said. The detainees have been identified as Shabbir Husain, Dhuda Ram and Devdas, the official said.

Woman journalist shot at in east Delhi; family dispute suspected

A woman journalist was shot at allegedly by two masked men in east Delhi's New Ashok Nagar area, police said Sunday. The woman -- Mitali Chandola received bullet injuries in the arm and is out of danger, they said, adding it is suspected to be a case of family dispute. The incident took place on the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday when Chandola was driving her car. At around 12.30 am, another car suddenly overtook her and opened fire at her, police said. In her statement to police, the victim said she was on her Hyundai i20 car when two masked men in another car chased and tried to stop her. They first threw some eggs on the front class of her car and when she did not stop, they opened two rounds of fire at her, a senior police officer said. 16-year-old gang-raped by six over 5 days in Andhra Pradesh

A 16-year-old girl was allegedly raped for five days by six persons, including three minors, after being locked up in a room in Ongole town of Andhra Pradesh, police said Sunday. All those accused of allegedly raping her have been apprehended from different parts of the state and police said they are further investigating the case. Two accused held for shooting at retired cop in Rohtak

Two persons, who had allegedly shot at and injured a retired police sub-inspector, were arrested Sunday after a brief exchange of fire in Haryana's Rohtak district, officials said. The accused, Mohit and Pankaj, allegedly fired at a police team when it approached them near Sunaria in Rohtak, the officials said. In the retaliatory police firing, Pankaj was hit in the leg and he was later taken to a hospital, they said. Two pistols and some live cartridges were recovered from them, the officials said, adding the accused were wanted in some other cases too. The retired police officer, Hukam Singh, was attacked near Rohatak's Anaj Mandi on Wednesday after which he was admitted to PGIMS hospital.

The officials of the Customs Department at Munaobao railway station have arrested a Pakistani citizen for possessing a Swiss marked gold biscuit.According to official sources, Shabbir Husain, who was travelling on the Thar Express from Pakistan to India, was arrested on Saturday night.He was carrying 50 grams of Swiss marked gold biscuit. Three of family killed as truck hits car in Rajasthan's Alwar

Three members of a family were killed when their car was hit by a truck in Alwar district of Rajasthan, police said Sunday. The incident took place on Saturday night in Rajgarh area of the district when one Karan Singh along with his family was on his way to Churu from Uttar Pradesh, they said. The car was hit by a speeding truck killing Karan Singh's wife Sushila (47), their son Rahul (25) and daughter Khushi (14), police said. 6 Indians arrested at Colombo airport for smuggling gold

Six Indians have been arrested for allegedly attempting to smuggle gold worth Rs 30 lakhs to India, authorities said on Sunday.Quoting Customs Spokesman Deputy Director, Sunil Jayaratne, the Daily Mirror reported that the suspects, aged between 36 and 53, were arrested at the Bandaranaike International Airport (BIA) here and had concealed gold biscuits in their luggage, pockets of the trousers they were wearing and inside their rectum."All the accused are aged between 36 and 53. Over 90 per cent snatching, robbery accused are first-timers: Delhi top cop

More than 90 per cent of the accused in snatching and robbery cases are first-timers which poses a challenge for the police, Delhi Police Commissioner Amulya Patnaik said. According to statistics shared by Delhi Police, 11.73 per cent of the accused who were involved in robbery cases in 2017 were those who had previous records. This number fell down to 6.80 per cent in 2018 and to 5.52 per cent this year. Similarly, 9.48 per cent of those accused in snatching cases in 2017 had previous criminal history as opposed to 5.26 per cent in 2018 and to 3.51 per cent in 2019. Patnaik said the focus of Delhi Police is to curb street crimes, including robberies and snatching incidents, in which firearms are also used at times. He said there has been a steady decline in such incidents from 2016 to 2018. In 2016, 9,571 cases of snatching were reported. The number fell to 8,231 in 2017 and to 6,932 in 2018. FIR against BSP MP for giving false affidavit during polls

An FIR has been registered against BSP MP Atul Rai for giving a false affidavit during elections.
