A case for alleged harassment of wife for dowry has been registered against an Indian Police Service (IPS) officer posted in the Dantewada district of Chhattisgarh, police today said. Chandramohan Singh, a 2014-batch officer, is currently additional superintendent of police (ASP), Dantewada. "A case under section 498 (A) of IPC was registered against ASP Singh on August 13," Dantewada Superintendent of Police (SP) Abhishek Pallava told PTI. Section 498 (A) deals with "subjecting wife to cruelty" for the purpose of dowry. Singh's mother-in-law had last month submitted a complaint against him to the state's Director General of Police as well as Dantewada police. The matter was then referred to the district family welfare committee, which, after investigation, recommended that a case should be registered against him, Pallava said. A teacher in Andhra Pradesh's Eluru city was on Tuesday stripped and paraded naked for allegedly raping a student.The 40-year-old English teacher, K. Rambabu, was beaten up severely and was taken to a police station after he was paraded naked down the streets for allegedly raping an 18-year-old student and impregnating her.Rambabu, who works with various educational institutions, is alleged to have sexually exploited the girl for the past two years. The student informed her parents when they raised questions about her severe bleeding.She also said that she was given abortion tablets for her pregnancy. An 11-year-old girl was allegedly sexually assaulted by her father in northwest Delhi's Mahendra Park area, the police said today. After the victim told her mother about the ordeal, they lodged a complaint with Mahendra Park Police Station on August 13, the officer added. The accused was arrested on the same day and a case was filed under the relevant sections of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), the officer said. In her police statement, the victim alleged that her father touched her private parts on several occasions in an inappropriate manner. These incidents allegedly took place when the victims mother was not present at home, the officer said. The victim's mother said her husband is an alcoholic who sexually assaulted their daughter when he was in an inebriated state. The accused is a labourer, the officer said.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the recent rape and murder of an 11-year-old girl in Uttarkashi district, the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Rajiv Sharma and Justice Manoj Tiwari ordered yesterday setting up of SITs in all districts to investigate such cases against minor girls. The bench directed the government to constitute SITs for all 13 districts of the state within 48 hours. The Delhi High Court has warned the AAP government of strict action if it does not finalise its policy to regulate taxis running in the national capital by the end of November this year. The warning by the high court came after the Delhi government said its policy -- the City Taxi Scheme 2017 -- was under consideration and would take more time to finalise. The Delhi government had in September last year sought four weeks' time to place the regulations before the court, and on July 31 this year, it sought two months more to carry out the exercise. Dissatisfied by the government's stand, a division bench of the high court in its order of July 31 directed that the New City Taxi Policy and the Licensing and Regulation of App-based Aggregators Rules, 2017 be placed before the court by November 26, the next date of hearing. The National Green Tribunal has directed five star hotels in the national capital to seek permission from the Central Ground Water Authority (CGWA) for extraction of groundwater and inform it about the quantity required by them. Six people have been arrested for allegedly assaulting a 53-year-old man near here on suspicion that he was a child lifter, police said today. The man was attacked by a group when he, along with his friend, was returning home on August 19 after collecting some donations for Bakrid. While he was about to start his new two-wheeler, children who were playing there gathered and he offered them sweets. Suddenly, a group caught hold of him alleging that he was a child lifter, tied him to a pole and started thrashing him even as he pleaded with them that he was innocent. His friend managed to escape. Police, who rushed to the spot, rescued him and later arrested six persons allegedly involved in the attack. A teenage girl died today while undergoing treatment at a hospital in Baramati in Pune district, days after she allegedly attempted suicide over sexual harassment, the police said. The 16-year-old girl had allegedly consumed a poisonous substance at her residence in Songaon village, over 100 kms from Pune, on August 11, a Baramati police official said. He said the deceased was a student of class 11 in a junior college in her village. She had complained to her family members about the frequent sexual harassment she had been facing at the hands of a youth from the village, according to the official. "The youth used to harass her when she used to walk down to her college in the village. The brother of the girl had reprimanded the youth and warned him against repeating his act.
