Husband's kin not to be roped in marital cases, if crime not made out: SC
The relatives of a husband should not be roped in cases of matrimonial disputes and dowry deaths unless specific instances of their involvement in the crime is made out, the Supreme Court has held. A bench of Justices S A Bobde and L Nageswara Rao also cautioned the courts to be careful in proceeding against "distant relatives" of the husband in such cases. The apex court judgement came as it allowed a plea filed by the maternal uncles of a man challenging a Hyderabad High Court's January 2016 verdict dismissing their petition for quashing criminal proceedings against them in a matrimonial dispute case. "The courts should be careful in proceeding against the distant relatives in crimes pertaining to matrimonial disputes and dowry deaths. The relatives of the husband should not be roped in on the basis of omnibus allegations unless specific instances of their involvement in the crime are made out," the bench said. Bomb blast victims sue Indian restaurant in Canada for 6 mn dollars
Victims of a bomb blast in Canada have sued a popular Indian restaurant near here for damages totalling 6 million dollars, alleging that the attack was a result of a "turf war" between business rivals. On May 24, two persons with their faces covered walked into the Bombay Bhel restaurant at Mississauga in Ontario, where two birthday parties were being celebrated, dropped an improvised explosive device and fled. The blast, the impact of which was felt more than four kilometres away, wounded 15 people, including two dual Indian-Canadian nationals. 5 dead after consuming spurious liquor in UP's Shamli; SI, 4 constables suspended
Five people have died and seven others taken ill at a village in Shamli district since yesterday allegedly after consuming spurious liquor, police said today. After the incident was reported, five policemen -- including Bidoli police outpost in-charge Sub-Inspector KP Singh and four constables -- were suspended for negligence in duty, police said. Shamli Additional Superintendent of Police Shalok Kumar said the incident happened at Kamalpur village under Jhanjhana police station, which is near the Uttar Pradesh-Haryana border. While three deaths occurred yesterday, two persons died today, he said. The seven people who fell ill allegedly after consuming the spurious liquor have been taken to different hospitals for treatment, but they are in serious condition, he said. Police said that one of the deceased, 55-year-old Joga Singh, had supplied the alleged spurious liquor and had also himself consumed it. Man from Laos detained at Jaipur airport with 1.5 kg gold
A 35-year-old citizen of Laos was detained by the CISF at Jaipur International Airport (JIA) for trying to smuggle 1.5 kg gold worth Rs 45 lakh into the country, an official said. The accused, Vatsna Sangphachan, was detained on suspicion after his arrival from Bangkok and later 1.5 kg gold was recovered from his shoes, he said. The accused cannot speak English and his phone call records are being investigated, the CISF official said, adding that the gold has been seized. Sangphachan has been handed over to the customs officials for further investigation into the matter, he said.

Top USRA militant shot dead in Manipur
A top leader of the militant outfit United Socialist Revolutionary Army (USRA) was today shot dead by unidentified persons in Manipur's Churachandpur district, police said. Lalminthang Vaiphei, the self styled 'commander-in -chief' of USRA was shot dead in front of zonal education office, Churachandpur town, they said. Motive behind killing of the USRA leader was not known, police said adding that a case has been filed at Churachandpur police station for further investigation. The body of Vaiphei was sent to Churachandpur District Hospital for postmortem, they added. The USRA is active in Churachandpur district, they said.
Teenager arrested for raping cousin
A teenage boy has been arrested for reportedly raping his 5-year-old cousin in Huzoorpur police station area here, police said today. Manish (18) took the victim on the pretext of a motorcycle ride yesterday. He drove to a secluded spot and allegedly raped her, SP Sabharaj said. The accused later returned with the minor who was in a serious condition and threatened her family to hush up the matter. He, however, fled the scene when the girl's condition deteriorated, the officer said. An FIR was lodged by the victim's father and the accused was arrested, police said, adding that the girl has been admitted to the district hospital.
Minor girl raped for 11 months in Ballia dist
A minor girl was allegedly raped for 11 months on the promise of marriage in a village under Sukhpura police station here, police said today. The accused, identified as Avinish Singh (24), was arrested today based on the complaint lodged by the 15-year-old victim's mother, the police said. Avinish and the victim live in the same neighbourhood. The girl was raped for 11 months with the promise of marriage, police said.

A BJP worker was found dead today after he was kidnapped by suspected terrorists in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The bullet-riddled body of Shabir Ahmad Bhat was found in the fields at Rakh-e-Litter area of Kupwara, a police official said. Bhat was abducted by suspected terrorists last night, he said.

Panchayat sevak gets 5-year in jail for taking bribe in J'khand
A special court of Anti-Corruption Bureau has sentenced a panchayat sevak to five-year imprisonment for demanding and accepting bribe. Special court judge Devendra Kumar Pathak delivered the judgement against Bigu Ram yesterday. A fine of Rs 15,000 was also imposed on him. As per the case that was registered with the Anti-Corruption Bureau, Palamau, Ram had demanded a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a road construction firm to clear its outstanding amount. The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials arrested Ram while he was accepting the bribe on June 22 last year.
Maoist sentenced to 27 months in jail under Arms Act
A court here has sentenced a Maoist cadre to two years and three months in jail under Arms Act. The 1st class Judicial Magistrate, Rajendra Prasad, sentenced the Maoist Chotan Yadav yesterday. The court also slapped a fine of Rs 5,000 and if he failed to cough up the amount, the convict will have to serve six months more in jail. Yadav was arrested on January 21 last year along with a firearm and live ammunition from Mohammadgunj by a special police team.

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday arrested 3 persons in connection with the Narendra Dabholkar murder case.The CBI took possession of the firearm and live ammunition that was recovered from the arrested persons, while the Aurangabad police took possession of the knife, sword and air gun recovered.Earlier on Tuesday, the CBI, along with officials from the Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS), recovered several weapons, including a pistol, sword, and a khukri, from prime accused Sachin Andure's brother-in-law's place in Aurangabad, suspecting that the weapons were used to assassinate Dabholkar in 2013.The recovery revealed that one of the weapons was a countrymade pistol of 7.65 mm bore that was allegedly used to kill Dabholkar. United States President Donald Trump's former personal attorney Michael Cohen pleaded guilty in Manhattan federal court on Tuesday in connection with eight criminal charges.US media reports claimed that Cohen, in coordination and at the direction of a candidate for federal office, withheld information that could have tarnished the candidate's image.The CNN reported that the charges against Cohen brought an end to the months-worth investigation by the US Attorney's Office for the Southern District of New York.The announcement of the sentence is scheduled for December 12 by Judge William H.
