Supreme Court judge Ranjan Gogoi today said that Indian judiciary must have a consistent policy in matters relating to pendency of cases and batted for appointment of ad hoc judges given the shortage in lower courts. As on date, there are 5984 judicial vacancies in district courts across the country, Justice Gogoi, the puisne judge of the apex court, said. "The problem does not lie in the short tenure (of judges). It lies in the change of priorities with change of chief justices. The Indian judiciary must have a consistent policy," he said. The body of a minor girl was found lying in a field here today with injury marks on her neck suggesting that she was strangulated after being raped, the police said. The seven-year-old girl went missing last evening while playing outside her home in Jhalawar district's Mogiyabhiya village, SHO of Kamkheda police station Dharmaram said. The minor's father lodged a police complaint today morning and a case was lodged under section 363 (kidnapping) of the IPC, he added. Her body was found around 4:30 pm in a maize field, about 250 to 300 metres from her home, following a search operation by police teams, the SHO said. The police suspect the minor was strangulated to death after being raped sometime last night as her body bore injury marks on the neck. Nine African-origin men were arrested in the city after cocaine was seized from their possession in the wee hours today, police said. A police patrolling team intercepted a vehicle on the Eastern Freeway in south Mumbai around 1 AM, said a senior official of the Anti-Narcotics Cell. There were nine men, all of African origin, inside. The police found that one of them had a polythene bag which contained 104 gm of cocaine and 9 gm of mephedrone. Two of the men were also carrying knives, the official said. Two accused police officers - sub-inspector Muhammad Yaseen and ASI (assistant sub-inspector of police) Sapurd Hussain were granted bail by an anti-terrorism court (ATC) on Saturday in connection to the murder of Naqeebullah Mehsud.The court directed both policemen to pay (Pakistani) Rs. 0.2 million in bail bonds. Justice T Raja, before whom the petition came up yesterday, sought some clarifications from the government pleader with regard to the woman's medical reports and posted the matter for further hearing after two weeks. In her plea, the petitioner, who got married in 2009, said she went to the hospital in March 2016 as she was experiencing menstrual irregularities. Post examination, the doctors told her she was pregnant and that she was due for delivery in November, the petitioner said. As months went by, she did not experience labour pain. So the woman went back to the hospital where the doctors conducted a scan and told her that the baby was fine. She was asked to wait a few more days. Two policemen posted at New Usmanpur police station in northeast Delhi have been arrested for allegedly demanding Rs 1 lakh from a man accused in several criminal cases, police said today. Head constable Jitender and constable Mohit were arrested and dismissed from service yesterday, they said. They are currently in judicial custody, Atul Kumar Thakur, Deputy Commissioner of Police (northeast) said. The matter came to the fore after the man's wife registered a complaint on July 26. The complainant alleged that the policemen demanded Rs one lakh from her husband. The reason for the extortion bid is yet to be ascertained, police said. Judge Alok Awasthi of the special court for Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) sent the Joshis in judicial custody last evening. The court granted bail to Arvind Joshi's parents--Nirmala Joshi (88) and H M Joshi (92)--against a surety of Rs 50,000 each in view of their old age, said an Enforcement Directorate (ED) official. Joshi's parents are co-accused in the case. The court had issued a warrant against the accused on July 19 in connection with a case filed by the ED under the PMLA. The Madras High Court has dismissed an appeal filed by Hyundai Motor India Ltd, assailing the decision of the Competition Commission of India (CCI) to investigate the company for alleged anti-competitive practices related to spare parts sale and after-sale service. Two persons have been detained in connection with the incident, they said. Satnampura Station House Officer (SHO) Inspector Narinder Singh Aujla identified the peddler as Narinder of Panchwati, Palwal, Haryana. He was arrested near Maheru colony near Lawgate of the Lovely Professional University, Chaheru yesterday, the SHO said. On seeing police, the accused tried to run after throwing a packet, but he was caught, he said. During search, a packet containing five gram of heroin was seized.
