Sleuths of Mizoram's Excise and Narcotics department seized huge quantity of gold, worth more than Rs 2 crore, here and arrested two persons in this connection, an official said today. The Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Excise and Narcotics department seized 49 gold biscuits weighing 8.147 kilogram here yesterday and arrested two persons who were handed over to the officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence in Aizawl, the official said. The Anti-Narcotic Squad also seized 207 grams of heroin near here yesterday and arrested five persons in this connection, Department spokesman Peter Zohmingthanga said. He said that the seized contraband was worth around Rs eight lakh in the local market and was reportedly smuggled from Myanmar. The five accused were booked under relevant sections of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, he added.
BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar was today listed in a charge sheet by the CBI for framing the father of a minor girl, allegedly raped by the lawmaker in Unnao, in a false Arms Act case, officials said. Along with him nine others including the then Station Officer of Makhi police station, Ashok Singh Bhaduria, Sub-Inspector Kamta Prasad Singh, Constable Amir Khan, brother of the MLA Atul Singh Sengar were also named in the charge sheet, filed before a special CBI court in Lucknow. Four other accused have also been charged by the agency. Sengar is a four-time MLA from Bangarmau, a semi-urban area nearly 70 km from Lucknow, and enjoys immense clout in the area. The CBI recently named him in a charge sheet for allegedly raping the minor girl at his residence on June 4, 2017 night but the local police had not registered the FIR after the crime. The girl's father was booked by the local police on allegations of brandishing a country-made pistol and put in prison when he filed a case this year .
Former MLA Jayanti Bhanushali has resigned as the vice president of Gujarat BJP following an accusation of rape against him. The 53-year-old leader from Kutch district denied the allegation in his resignation letter sent to the state BJP president, Jitu Vaghani, and claimed it was a conspiracy to malign his image. Vaghani today accepted the resignation, the BJP said in a statement. Bhanushali had represented Abdasa Assembly constituency in Kutch from 2007 to 2012. A businessman and his two minor children were found dead in their house in Haryana's Panipat city, with the police suspecting it to be a case of suicide. The police found the bodies of the 40-year-old businessman, his 15-year-old son and 10-year-old daughter from the house located in Panipat's Sector 11 yesterday. The wife of the man, who also allegedly tried to hang herself from the ceiling using her dupatta, was admitted to a hospital in a serious condition, the police said. It is suspected that the couple administered poison to the children, before hanging themselves from the ceiling, they added. The CBI has registered a case against unidentified officials of the External Affairs Ministry for irregular withdrawal of Rs 92 lakh from GPF accounts of the ministry between August 2017 and February 2018, officials said today. It was found in the internal review of accounts by the External Affairs Ministry that the amount was fraudulently transferred from four GPF accounts, they said. The fraud was detected when an attempt was made to withdraw Rs 22 lakh from the GPF account of a person named Ram Kumar on June 7 in Axis Bank branch in Janakpuri, they said. "Due to mismatch of name with GPF account holder etc, the payment of the bill was stopped through bank. During the internal review, it is revealed that COMPACT Data Base (software in which office of Principal Chief Controller of Accounts operates ministry's accounts) had been tampered with and certain data fields altered in order to facilitate the fraudulent withdrawal," the MEA had said in its complaint. The Patna High Court has come to the rescue of a former Bihar district judge's daughter, who was allegedly detained by her parents for deciding to marry against their wishes, saying no one had the right to curtail her freedom. A division bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon passed the order yesterday. The woman, who is in her early 20s and a law graduate, wants to marry a Delhi-based lawyer which was being opposed by her parents. According to State fishermen association president, N Devadoss, the judge imposed certain conditions including one that if the released fishermen were found and caught by the Lankan navy in their territory again within five years they would be detained in prison for one to two years. Police have summoned Pratima Coutinho, the chief of Goa Congress's women's wing, for questioning tomorrow, after she was accused of revealing the identity of a molestation victim. Coutinho has been asked to appear at Women Police Station here at 11 AM, a senior police official said. NGO Savera and the Shiv Sena had filed separate complaints against Coutinho for allegedly revealing the identity of a 17-year-old molestation victim.
