A man, said to be an alcoholic, allegedly poisoned his family in Haryana's Jind, which led to the death of his three minor daughters while his wife and another daughter were battling for life at a hospital, the police said today. The accused, Kashmiri Ram who is a resident of Bighana village in Jind, allegedly poisoned his family on Tuesday in an inebriated state. He was arrested yesterday, they said. The three victims who died were in the age group of 7 to 16 years, SHO of Alewa in Jind district Hari Om said. One of the victims, in her dying statement to police said that her father had forcibly administered the poison to the family, the police official said, adding, "We have registered a case and further investigations are on.

Delhi High Court on Friday issued notice to Google, Facebook, Twitter and other social media sites after their Indian subsidiaries informed the court that they are not concerned entity to reply to court's notice on disclosing the identity of Kathua victim.The Court will again hear the matter on May 29.Earlier the Delhi High Court had slapped a fine of Rs. 10 lakhs on each media house, who revealed the identity of the Kathua rape-case victim.The court had further warned that anyone disclosing rape victim's identity can be imprisoned for six-month.On April 13, the High Court had also issued a notice to various media houses for disclosing the identity of the rape victim.The eight-year-old girl, belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe, was abducted, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and killed in January.
The Delhi High Court today set aside the Election Commission's (EC) decision disqualifying Madhya Pradesh minister Narottam Mishra on charges of paid news. A bench of Justices S Ravindra Bhat and Sunil Gaur allowed the plea of Mishra, who is the state Minister of Public Relations, Water Resources and Parliamentary Affairs, saying there was no proof that he had incurred expenses, directly, indirectly or through someone else, on news biased in his favour. The poll panel's June 23, 2017 decision had come on a complaint by Congress leader Rajendra Bharti who had contested against Mishra in the 2008 polls in the state. The BJP leader had won the contest. The EC had held him guilty of filing wrong accounts of election expenditure relating to articles and advertorials in the media during the 2008 Assembly polls.
The body of a man, who was missing from his residence since yesterday night, was found beneath a culvert here, police said today. "The man has been identified as Surendra Singh (30), a salesman with a cooperative society situated in Kalapipal area. We have found blood stained stones and empty liquor bottles from the site where the body was found," said Kotwali police station in-charge, Jorawar Singh Sisodia. He said that the case, as per preliminary investigation, looked like one of murder and further probe on this aspect was underway. He informed that the deceased's family had filed a missing complaint with the police yesterday night. "The body has been sent for autopsy and further investigations will begin after we get its report," the official said.
The special task force (STF) unit of Kolkata Police has apprehended a man from Paschim Burdwan district for his alleged involvement in the arms smuggling racket, which was busted here recently with the arrest of two Rifle Factory Ishapore (RFI) officials among others, an officer said today. Ganesh Paswan alias Bhagwani ji, a resident of Gazipur in Bihar, was taken into custody by the STF sleuths yesterday evening from Barakar area of the district, he said. With yesterday's arrest, eight people, including two RFI officials, had been apprehended by the Kolkata Police since May 7 for their alleged involvement in smuggling arms to Maoists, the officer said. Last Sunday, the sleuths had nabbed Rajesh Kumar alias Munna, a resident of Ramchadrapur in Bihar's Nalanda district, in connection with the case. The Supreme Court today allowed Karti Chidambaram, son of senior Congress leader P Chidambaram, to travel to offshore locations in United Kingdom, Germany and Spain with certain conditions, including that he would not open or close a bank account abroad. Karti, who has been facing probe in various corruption cases, was allowed to go abroad from May 19 to 27 by a bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra. The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said "he (Karti) shall not open or close any overseas bank account" and not enter into any property transaction abroad. It asked Karti to furnish an undertaking before it, saying he would follow the conditions and apprise it about the flight details and date of arrival back to India. The Supreme Court today approved the Centre's draft Cauvery Management Scheme for smooth distribution of water among four southern riparian states. A bench headed by Chief Justice Dipak Misra rejected the suggestions of Karnataka and Kerala governments over the scheme, terming them as devoid of merits. The bench, also comprising Justices A M Khanwilkar and D Y Chandrachud, said the Cauvery Water Disputes Tribunal's award, which was modified by the apex court, has to be taken to the logical conclusion by the Cauvery Management Scheme. Rapper Mac Miller has been arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol (DUI), after he allegedly crashed his 2016 G-Wagon into a power pole. After law enforcement officers matched the vehicle's license plates to Miller's address, they arrested him at his home, a Los Angeles Police Department public information officer told People magazine. Miller, whose real name is Malcolm McCormick, was held on USD 15,000 bail prior to his release on Thursday morning and is set to appear in court on June 7. The Supreme Court today ordered that a floor test be held in the Karnataka Assembly at 4 pm tomorrow to ascertain whether newly appointed BJP Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa enjoys majority in the state. Eight persons, including the husband of Mira Bhayander Mayor, have been booked for allegedly violating environment rules, police said today. The offence was registered at Mira Road police station on May 15. A man allegedly involved in six cases of murder, extortion, burglary and others in different polis stations of Jammu and Kashmir, was detained in Jammu city after Public Safety Act (PSA) was slapped upon him, the police said today. A warrant under PSA was issued by the district magistrate Jammu against Baber Khan of Bhagwati Nagar, following which he was detained, a police officer said. Two women have been arrested with heroin and illicit liquor from Kathua district in Jammu and Kashmir, the police said today. During patrolling in Chak Drab Khan area, a police team intercepted two women and recovered 4.5 grams of heroin, and 214 litres of illicit liquor from them, a police officer said today. Two bids to smuggle bovines into Kashmir were foiled in Samba district and 24 animals were seized, the police said today. Acting on a tip-off, that the bovines were being smuggled from Manohar Gopala area towards Srinagar side by foot, a police team reached the spot at Basantar Nallah and rescued 10 bovines last night, a police officer said. The smugglers managed to escape. A case has been registered at Samba police station and investigation is underway, he said. In another incident, a truck was intercepted after a chase as the driver had tried to speed away even being instructed by the police to spot. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled. During checking, 14 bovines were found inside the vehicle, the officer said. The vehicle was seized and a case has been registered at Ghagwal police station, he said.
