Former New York Mayor Rudy Giuliani on Sunday said that United States President Donald Trump's personal attorney Michael Cohen would have paid other women if necessary, like he paid adult film star Stormy Daniels."I have no knowledge of that. SC to hear Kathua rape-murder case today

The Supreme Court will on Monday resume hearing the case of alleged rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district.The apex court had earlier stayed the trial of the accused till today in the case before the Sessions judge.A three-judge bench of the apex court, headed by Chief Justice of India Dipak Misra, took the decision.The eight-year-old girl belonging to a nomadic Muslim tribe was abducted, drugged, gang-raped, tortured and killed in January.

BJP corporator held for operating IPL betting racket

A local BJP corporator and three others were today arrested for allegedly operating a IPL cricket matches betting racket in Ujjain in Madhya Pradesh, police said. Cyber Crime police raided a house at Begam Bagh Railway Colony and caught Mohammed Farooque aka Raju Bhai along with others for allegedly running a betting racket on the IPL matches, said Neelganga police station inspector K S Gehlot. He said police have recovered ten mobile phone handsets, cash worth Rs 14,000, and a register of betting accounts worth several lakhs. Farooque and other accused, identified as Tabu, Arbaz, and Mohammad Ali Nizam, have been booked under appropriate sections of the IPC, Gehlot said.

Trader arrested for adulterating cement in Odisha

A businessman was arrested here today for allegedly trading in adulterated cement from his godown, police said. A team of Jagatpur Police conducted a raid yesterday and arrested Lalit Kumar Jain (45), a release issued by City DCP Akhileswar Singh said. Around 7,547 bags of cement along with a large quantity of fly ash and sand were seized from the godown, it said. "The accused has been booked under sections 420, 482, 485, 120 (B) of IPC and sections 78 and 79 of Trade and Merchandise Act," the DCP added.

Gitanjali Gems director records statement in cheating case

Chetna Jhaveri, a director of the scam-hit Gitanjali Gems, today recorded her statement before the crime branch officials in connection with a cheating case filed against her here in 2016, police said. "The crime branch today recorded the statement of Jhaveri, who is a director of Gitanjali Gems, in connection with a cheating case filed against her in 2016 related to the Mehul Choksi-promoted company," DCP (crime) Deepan Bhadran said. Bhadran said Jhaveri recorded her statement before the investigating officer in the case of cheating related to the Gitanjali Gems but was not arrested as the Gujarat High Court had prevented the police from "taking any coercive action against her". Gitanjali Gems promoter Choksi and his relative Nirav Modi are wanted in connection with the alleged multi-crore Punjab National Bank fraud. There role in the alleged fraud is being investigated by multiple agencies.

Visually-impaired woman raped in Delhi

A 20-year-old visually-impaired woman was allegedly raped by her neighbour in central Delhi's Deshbandhu Gupta Road area, the police said today. The incident was reported on May 4. The woman alleged that when her mother had gone to fetch drinking water, she was standing at the entrance of her shanty, the police said. She heard voices of some persons who were talking about sexually assaulting her. While two of them left, the third man came and asked her to accompany her. She refused to go with him but he forcefully took her to an adjacent shanty where he gagged her mouth with cloth when she shouted for help and raped her, the police said. The woman narrated her ordeal to her mother who informed the police. The 45-year-old accused was later arrested, they added.

Man poses as ADC to Himachal Governor, FIR registered

An FIR was registered against an unknown person, who claimed himself to be the ADC to Himachal Pradesh Governor Acharya Devvrat and sought favours from bureaucrats in Haryana. The FIR was registered at Chhota Shimla police station here following a complaint filed by Arjit Sen, the ADC to the Governor, under IPC Section 170 (personating a public servant). The police have started preliminary investigations to trace the accused. The matter came to light when a bureaucrat called at the Raj Bhawan to cross check from the ADC if he had contacted the officer and it was found that someone was making fake calls. Shashi Kant Sharma, advisor to the Governor, said, A complaint, along with audio recordings, was given to the Director General of Police.

The father of an eight-year-old girl, who was gang-raped and killed in Kathua in Jammu and Kashmir, said today that he has full faith in the judiciary and has devoted his life to ensure justice is done to his daughter. The Supreme Court will hear the matter tomorrow. On April 27, the Supreme Court stayed till May 7 the trial in the case, after it was seized with petitions seeking shifting of the trial from Jammu to Chandigarh and handing over the investigation into the case to the CBI. A bench of Chief Justice Dipak Misra and Justices D Y Chandrachud and Indu Malhotra had said it would deal with the prayer of the victim's father for shifting of trial to Chandigarh and plea of the accused seeking handing over the probe to the CBI. 2 arrested for being involved in robbery, snatching

Two persons have been arrested for allegedly being involved in several robbery and snatching cases, the Delhi police said today. A woman filed a police complaint on May 4 stating that she was thrashed and looted by two persons in Mayur Vihar, while she was going to her school, they said. A case of robbery was registered and investigation was initiated following which Pramod and Rahul were arrested, the police said. During interrogation, it was revealed that Pramod was released from prison in March. He and Rahul were actively involved in robbery and snatching incidents in east and northeast Delhi," a release from the Delhi police said. Three mobile phones, three vehicles were seized from the accused, the police said and claimed to have worked out 11 cases of car theft, snatching and robbery.

6 arrested for running illegal online casino

Six men were arrested for allegedly running an illegal online casino in east Delhi's Shakarpur, police said today. On May 5, the police were informed about the running of an illegal gaming house at a shop and a raid was conducted at the premises. The raiding team found 15 play-stations which were used for playing and online bidding game within the premises, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Pankaj Singh said. The organisers, who were running the casino for the last three-four months, were luring customers to bid a minimum of Rs 1000 on numbers online, he said. The customers were promised Rs 36,000 if they got their number, the officer said. Amit Kashyap (26), the manager of the casino, was arrested last year in Krishna Nagar for running a casino. The others who were arrested were Rohit Sharmal, Sunny Chhabra, Sachin Kumar, Rishi Kesh and Pankaj Mishra.

Mastermind of SSC cheating syndicate arrested

A Delhi government clerk, suspected to be the mastermind of a crime syndicate helping candidates cheat the online examination conducted by the Staff Selection Commission, has been arrested here, police said today. With the arrest of Harpal Singh, 33, on Friday, the total number of gang members arrested in the case has reached 10. An upper division clerk in trade and tax department, he had been on the run since the syndicate was busted in March. Singh was the main driver behind the gang, who had planned the process to cheat the computer-based examination, police said. The gang members used to assist candidates via a remote-access application, Team Viewer. Last month, Delhi Police arrested five persons in connection with the matter. Man escapes from police lock up in JK's Reasi district

A 43-year-old person, who was detained for questioning in connection with the death of a man, today escaped from police custody in Jammu and Kashmir's Reasi district, an official said. Mohammad Haleem, a resident of Bidda village, was undergoing questioning at a police post in Jyotipuram for the past few days in connection with the death of Barkat Ali, a police official said. He said Ali died under mysterious circumstances around two months back. Haleem escaped from the lock up this morning after requesting the sentry to allow him to perform ablution for prayers, the officer said. He said a search has been launched to arrest him.

Air India air hostess alleges molestation onboard by pilot

An air hostess of Air India has alleged that she was molested by the pilot of the Ahmedabad-Mumbai flight on May 4, police said today. A police official said a scuffle broke out between the complainant and the pilot onboard the flight last Friday. The woman then approached the Sahar police station in Mumbai and lodged a case, he added. An Air India spokesperson was not available for comment. "Based on her complaint, we have registered a case against the pilot under section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) of the IPC", the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Onus on home minister if report questioning charge sheet in Kathua killing true: BJP

The BJP today said if a report questioning the charge sheet filed by the police in the Kathua rape and murder case was true then the onus was on the Home Minister Mehbooba Mufti to issue a clarification on it. A citizen's group which conducted an individual probe into the rape and killing of an eight-year-old girl had claimed that the charge sheet filed by the Crime Branch had discrepancies and the investigation was botched-up. Teenage girl among three held in murder case

Two women were arrested today for allegedly killing a minor girl in Antop Hill area of the city last week, police said. Another suspect, a 17-year-old girl, was detained in connection with the incident, police said, adding that the accused are relatives of the victim. They allegedly strangulated the minor girl in a fit of rage following an argument over some issue on May 4, a police official said. The family members of the victim had alleged that she was raped before being killed, he said. However, another police official said the injury marks were found only on the neck of the girl in the postmortem report and there was no sign of sexual attack. The accused are identified as Sabira Yusuf (40), Sauliya Sayyed (35), and a teenage girl. The trio have been booked under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the IPC, the official said, adding that further investigation is underway.

Maoist courier held in Chhattisgarh

A suspected Maoist courier was arrested in Chhattigsarh's Rajnandgaon district for allegedly supplying commodities of daily use and medicines to a naxal leader, police said today. Minor girl raped, set on fire in J'khand; suffers 70 pc burns

A minor girl was allegedly raped and set on fire by her neighbour in Jharkhand's Pakur district, following which the accused was arrested, police said today. The incident comes close on the heels of another minor girl being allegedly raped and burnt to death in the state's Chatra district, in which 15 people were arrested till yesterday and a Special Investigation Team was formed to probe the case.
