A 20-year-old man was arrested on charges of kidnapping a minor girl here on Sunday.According to Sub-Inspector B. Raju of Narayanaguda police station, the parents of the 17-year-old girl, who went missing for the last one month, filed a complaint stating their daughter was kidnapped by a person named Mohammad Jameel.Jameel, an electrician, working at Himayatnagar area of the city, got in touch with the girl and tricked her into believing that he would marry her without the permission of the girl's parents. He then kidnapped the girl with an intention to marry her.The police traced the duo who was living in a rented house in Katedan area. The minor girl was handed over to her family.The accused was booked under Section 363 and 366 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and remanded to judicial custody.
Shiv Sena leader Sachin Sawant was shot dead by unidentified assailants in Kandivali's Gokul Nagar area here on Sunday.Sawant, who was a local leader from Kurar in Maharashtra, was shot in the chest and was declared brought dead, according to doctors at Shatabdi Hospital in Kandivali.He was a former deputy branch head of the Shiv Sena from Kurar.A police investigation is underway.This is the third incident of this month where a Shiv Sena leader was targeted.On April 7, two Shiv Sena leaders were shot dead by two men on a motorcycle in Ahmednagar's Kedgaon area after the result of a civic bypoll was announced.The deceased were identified as Sanjay Kotkar and Vasant Anand Thube.
A Florida man has been sentenced to 330 years in prison on child pornography charges after authorities say he took sex tourism trips to the Philippines and made and posted videos of sexual encounters he had with young children. Authorities say David Lynch's victims were as young as 6 years old and that he posted videos online dating back to 2005. The Venice man was arrested in 2016 attempting to board a flight to the Philippines. Prosecutors say at least one of the trips was arranged by the mother of one of the young victims. They say Lynch also has two young children living in the Philippines. Lynch was convicted late last year and sentenced this week. The Fort Myers News-Press reports that besides the lengthy sentence, the judge ordered Lynch to forfeit his bayfront home.
A 45-year-old man was found dead at his residence in east Delhi's Pandav Nagar today, with the police suspecting that his son-in-law killed him, police said. The deceased identified as Prabhu Dayal lived in Pandav Nagar area. Prabhu was found lying in a pool of blood by a relative who informed the police. The police said that one Neeraj got married to Dayal's daughter in December 2016. They used to have heated arguments after marriage and were living separately. It is suspected that his son-in-law killed him to teach his wife a lesson, the police added.
A lawyer was arrested today for allegedly sexually assaulting a minor girl tonight on the Thiruvananthapuram-Chennai express, police said. The advocate allegedly assaulted her when she was asleep. The girl woke up and raised an alarm, following which her family nabbed him and informed the Travelling Ticket Examiner. The Chennai based lawyer had boarded the train from Coimbatore, police said. He was handed over to railway police here, who registered a case against him under The Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act), 2012. The lawyer was later lodged in a prison in Coimbatore.
A woman in south Assam's Karimganj district alleged that she was raped by her husband and his two friends within three days of her marriage as his demands for dowry were not met, the police said today. On the basis of her complaint, the husband was arrested today, they said. In her complaint to police, the woman claimed that her husband had demanded gold jewellery as dowry, and when his demand was not met, he along with his friends raped her on April 17, they said. According to police sources, the incident came to light when she had gone for medical treatment to a government hospital here in a critical condition, the police said. On the woman's complaint, an FIR was filed in April 20 and a hunt is on to nab the other two accused, they said.
A four-year-old girl was killed after her e-rickshaw was allegedly hit by a car in Dwarka today, police said. The girl, identified as Nancy, was in an e-rickshaw with her mother when a car rammed into it from behind. Nancy fell from the e-rickshaw and was injured. She was rushed to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead. In second incident, a 22-year-old man was killed after being run over by a bus in east Delhi's Madhu Vihar area on Saturday. The bus dragged him to several meters before coming to halt. He was taken to a hospital, where he was declared brought dead. In another incident, a car was hit by a truck in Lutyens Delhi. No one was injured as the airbag of the car opened in the nick of time.

Unidentified miscreants allegedly strangulated a minor girl to death and dumped her body in a deserted place near a village in Bihar's Sitamarhi district, police said today. The incident happened at Gangwara village under the jurisdiction of Runni Saidpur police station and the 14-year-old girl's body was found on the outskirts of the village, the police said. The girl was missing since yesterday. She had gone to her farm but she did not return home, the Station House Officer (SHO) of Runni Saidpur police station, Murari Prasad, said. Her relatives began looking for her yesterday and found her body today, he said. The police officer also said that it appeared that she was strangulated to death with her "dupatta". The body has been sent to a hospital for post-mortem examination, the SHO said, adding that an investigation has been initiated.
A deputy superintendent of police (DSP) was attacked allegedly by sand mafias in Rajasthan's Dholpur district today, an official said. A tractor trolley laden with sand hit Chaudhary's jeep near Bijoli village, Dholpur SP Rajesh Singh said. Chaudhary and his driver Ashok Kumar sustained severe injuries. Both of them were rushed to Sadar Hospital. The DSP was later shifted to a hospital in Jaipur for further treatment. On March 27, Dholpur DSP Satish Yadav had a close shave when some sand mafias opened fire at his vehicle.
The West Bengal CID today arrested four persons from Mainaguri town in Jalpaiguri district for allegedly running a cricket betting racket, a senior officer said. Acting on a tip-off, CID sleuths conducted a raid at a house under the jurisdiction of Mainaguri police station and arrested Gopal Sarkar, Bhola Das, Pravat Kangsa Banik and Pankaj Saha, he said. "During a search operation, some incriminating documents regarding betting, 10 mobile phones and cash amounting to Rs 3,77,620 were recovered," the officer said. Preliminary probe revealed that the accused were using a website to conduct betting in the ongoing Indian Premier League matches where people were contacted to bet, he added. A case has been started at Mainaguri police station and the four accused would be forwarded to court tomorrow with prayer for police remand, the officer said.
A drunk man was beaten up by a group of people for allegedly kidnapping a one-year-old girl from outer Delhi's Mangolpuri area, a police officer said today. The accused, identified as Yashpal, saw the girl standing near the gate of her house, and took her away. However, the girl's grandmother saw him and managed to catch hold of him. She raised an alarm and locals gathered there, he said. The accused was later handed over to the police, the officer said. The incident was also captured on a nearby CCTV camera in which the accused can be seen taking the girl with him. Yashpal was sent to judicial custody, the officer said, adding that a case was registered against him. He said the accused has been giving conflicting statements to the police.
Three persons have been arrested for allegedly burgling into the Income Tax department officer in Rawatbhata Road area here and decamping with gold worth over Rs 2 crore from a safe there, the police said today. Three people, including a mother and her daughter, were today found hanging from a tree in Rajasthan's Dholpur district, police said. The bodies of Sunita (48), her daughter Poonam (22) and their relative Mukesh (30) were found hanging with a tree in Gangoliapura village under Rajakheda police station limits, Additional Superintendent of Police, Rajendra Verma said. He said preliminary investigation has revealed that Sunita had a spat with her husband a few days ago after which she, along with Poonam and Mukesh, had gone to Delhi. They had returned today and Sunita had an altercation with her husband again after which the trio was found hanging. A case was registered under CrPc section 174 (unnatural death) and the matter is being investigated, he said.
Delhi Police today claimed to have solved a "blind" murder case with the arrest of two adults and a juvenile for allegedly stabbing to death a student after a scuffle over sharing of a cigarette between them last month. The police initially had to struggle to solve the murder case of the 21-year-old software graphic student, who was killed on March 21 in Subhash Place area in northwest Delhi. There was no evidence, Aslam Khan, deputy commissioner of police (northwest district), said. He said the case was "totally blind without any evidence".
