The Supreme Court on Monday refused to interfere with the petition seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the suicide of a 15-year-old student of Delhi's Ahlcon Public School.The petition was filed by the student's father, on March 27.The top court, however, granted the petitioner liberty to approach the concerned high court with the prayer.The teenage girl, who reportedly failed in her Class 9 examinations, committed suicide by hanging herself at her residence in Noida, on March 20. Her father alleged that the she had earlier accused her teacher of sexually harassing her.The victim's family also said that the girl was under "too much pressure" and that her teachers intentionally failed the 15-year-old in her exams.Earlier, a case was registered under Sections 306 (Abetment of suicide) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO Act) and an investigation was also launched into the incident.
Supreme Court on Monday said that it will hear the Cauvery water distribution issue on May 3 and asked the centre to file a draft scheme on the same day.The top court has also asked the authorities in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka to maintain peace, till it finalises the scheme for implementation of its judgment.On 16 February, the Supreme Court asked the Centre to form the Cauvery Management Board to implement a formula for sharing of water between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka.In the ruling, the apex court reduced Tamil Nadu's share in the Cauvery water to 177.25 thousand million cubic feet.

Four persons were injured in a bomb blast near a power station at Thoubal Khunou in Thoubal district of Manipur, the police said today. The IED blast, occurred at about 8.30 pm last night, near the gate of a mega power sub-station was suspected to have triggered by unknown people and could be related to monetary demands, they said. The injured were rushed to Thoubal district hospital where their conditions are said to be stable, the police said. A combing operations was launched this morning to arrest the culprits.
The district rural police has booked a man, claiming to be the editor of a local publication, for allegedly trying to extort Rs 20 lakh from a builder in Vasai area. The Tulinj police registered offences against the man under Indian Penal Code sections for extortion, the police said in a release. The builder alleged that the man had threatened to complain against him to the local civic body, which had taken up a drive to demolish illegal constructions, if he did not give him Rs 20 lakh, the police said. The father of an 18-year-old woman, who alleged that she was raped by BJP MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar and his brothers, died while in judicial custody here today. Pappu Singh, around 50, was rushed to a hospital from the district jail last night and died during treatment today. District Magistrate Ravi Kumar NG said that the postmortem examination of the victim would be conducted by a panel of doctors to ascertain the cause of death. He said that a probe had been ordered into the matter. Pappu was arrested on April 5 under the Arms Act after he was allegedly beaten up by Anil Singh, the MLA's brother. A youth has been arrested for allegedly bludgeoning a four-year-old girl to death after she resisted his rape attempts three days ago in Uttar Pradesh's Muzaffarnagar district, the police said today. During investigation, Ayub (22) was apparently found involved in the incident. He was arrested from Khatauli town last evening, said Omveer Singh, superintendent of police (City). The SP claimed that the accused had confessed to stoning the girl to death, after the victim started shouting when he allegedly tried to rape him. The Supreme Court today asked the Centre to formulate and file the draft Cauvery management scheme before it by May 3 and directed the authorities of Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and other stakeholders to ensure peace in the meantime. South Korean prosecutors say they've indicted former President Lee Myung-bak on bribery, embezzlement and other charges. Lees indictment Monday came three days after his successor Park Geun-hye was sentenced to 24 years in prison for a separate corruption scandal. The Seoul Central District Prosecutors Office said today it charged Lee with taking a total of 11 billion won (USD 10 million) in bribes from the country's spy agency, Samsung and others. The police in Maharashtra's Ahmednagar district today arrested BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile for allegedly vandalising the office of the superintendent of police (SP), a senior official said. An NCP MLC, Arun Jagtap, who was also allegedly involved in the incident, was on the run and a search was on for him, Ahmednagar Superintendent of Police Ranjankumar Sharma told PTI.
