Two bike borne miscreants shot at a constable deputed at the divisional jail gate in Bihar's Munger district, the police said. Munger Superintendent of Police Ashish Bharti said that the miscreants shot at a constable identified as Ajit Kumar (40) who was on duty at the jail gate last evening. The constable, who received bullet injuries in his stomach, was rushed to sadar hospital from where he was referred to the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College and Hospital, Bhagalpur in a critical condition, the SP said. The police have started its investigation into the incident, he said.
A suspended senior police officer was arrested for allegedly abetting the suicide of a 24-year- old woman constable in the district, the police said today. The accused, assistant commissioner of police Shamkumar Nipunge, surrendered before the Kalwa police last week after the Supreme Court rejected his pre-arrest bail in the case. He was placed under arrest on April 6 and later remanded in police custody, a senior official of the Thane police's Crime Branch said. Subhadra Pawar, a constable attached to the police headquarters in Thane Commissionerate, was allegedly found hanging from a ceiling fan of her flat in the Kalwa township here on September 6 last year, according to the police. A complainant claiming to be the victim a robbery here turned out to be the mastermind of a robbery case, the police said. Complainant Nalinikanta Tripathy and three others were arrested in this connection and Rs 26.48 lakh of the Rs 27 lakh looted money recovered from them, they said yesterday. City DCP Akhileswar Singh told reporters that Tripathy, who works with a construction company, reported to police on March 31 that while returning from a bank located in Jagatpur area, two unknown persons snatching his cash bag that contained Rs 27 lakh after attacking him with a knife. Tripathy said he was carrying his companys cash with him. Supreme Court on Monday will hear the plea filed by a lawyer seeking SIT probe into the alleged Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam case.Yesterday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) issued Non-Bailable Warrants (NBW) against celebrity jeweller Nirav Modi and his uncle and business partner, Mehul Choksi, in connection with Punjab National Bank (PNB) scam.The warrants were issued after a special CBI court in Mumbai allowed it.The PNB in February detected the multi-crore scam, wherein Modi and Choksi had allegedly cheated the bank to the tune of Rs 114 billion, with the purported involvement of a few employees of the bank.The scam, which reportedly began in 2011, was detected in the third week of January this year, after which the PNB officials reported it to the concerned agencies.The Enforcement Directorate (ED) registered a money laundering case against Modi and others on the basis of a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) FIR.Currently, the probe agencies are investigating the ..

The Sahibabad police has arrested two men, who had allegedly shot at a medical store employee in the Lajpat Nagar area in south Delhi last month, police said today. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Vaibhav Krishna said acting on a tip-off, the police arrested Jalaluddin alias Jalloo and Ankush from Pasonda village at Loni Road last night. Two country-made pistols and eight live cartridges were seized from their possession, he added. The accused were given a contract of Rs 5 lakh to eliminate Hemant Tyagi, the owner of the pharmacy, but by mistake, they had fired upon one of his employees, Babloo Kumar, the SSP said. The accused had told the police that they were given the contract to eliminate Tyagi by his brother-in-law, Rahul, who is imprisoned in the Dasna Jail in his wife's murder case, as the former was helping Rahul's in-laws in the court case, Krishna added. Relatives of a prisoner today blocked the Katihar-Kodha road for three hours to protest the death of an undertrial in the district jail here, police said. Katihar jail Superintendent Sujit Kumar Jha said Devendra Singh (30) was arrested on Wednesday for allegedly consuming liquor. The condition of Singh, a resident of Champi village, deteriorated this morning following which the jail doctor referred him to Sadar hospital where he died, Jha said. Dr Santosh Prakash, a Sadar hospital doctor, said Devendra Singh was 'brought dead' to the hospital. The deceased prisoner's relatives, alleging that he died because of beating inside the jail, blocked the Katihar-Kodha road.
