A body of a28-year-old woman with bullet wounds was found near a highway in Satheri village here, police said Wednesday. The body was recovered by a team of the Ratenpuri police station and sent for post mortem on Tuesday, Circle Officer Vijay Kumar Singh said. There were bullet wounds on the head of the woman, he said. The matter is being investigated and it seems, she was killed somewhere else, the circle officer said.

Gunfire during a riot in a Guatemala prison Tuesday left at least seven inmates dead and 10 wounded, authorities said. National Civil Police said the dead were all prisoners at the Pavon Rehabilitation Model Farm in the municipality of Fraijanes, about 10 miles (17 kilometers) east of Guatemala City. Prisoners had control of the facility for some eight hours Tuesday. Gunshots could be heard inside the prison and some inmates could be seen carrying guns. Prisoners carried their own dead to the entrance so authorities could identify them. Some 1,500 police officers and soldiers were sent to the scene, and regained control by late afternoon, officials said. Cecilio Chacaj of the municipal firefighters said 10 prisoners suffered bullet wounds. Prison authorities said the facility was built to house 900 prisoners but held 4,137.

A woman and her daughter-in-law were found murdered at their residence here, police said. The incident happened in the area under the limits of Mailardevpally police station.The victims were identified as Nabeena Begum (55) and her daughter-in-law Tayaab (25).Sattaiah Goud, Circle Inspector, Mailardevpally police station, while speaking to media on Tuesday said, "On Monday night we received information that two women have been found murdered at their residence. The Pakistan Maritime Security Agency has arrested 34 Indian fishermen for allegedly straying into the country's territorial waters, officials said. A maritime security spokesman said the arrests were made on Tuesday, during which six boats were also seized. The fishermen have been handed over to the local dock police, the spokesman said. "They will appear before a judicial magistrate, who will decide on their judicial remand," he said. This is the first time since January that the maritime security agency has arrested Indian fishermen. In January, five Gujarati boatsmen were arrested and jailed. Two persons have been arrested for allegedly robbing a jewellery shop in Vijaynagar area here, police said Tuesday. The robbery was carried out on May 2. On Tuesday, during a routine checking at Hindon barrage area, two suspects were detained and on frisking them the robed jewellery were recovered, City Superintendent of Police Shlok Kumar said. Twenty-six gold rings, 21 earrings and other ornamets along with two country-made pistols and six cartridges were seized from them, the officer said. The accused, Rohit (24) of Burari in north Delhi and Rakesh (28) of Duzana village in Gautam Budh Nagar district, have been arrested, Kumar said. Besides the robbery they have also confessed to killing a doctor in Loni on February 20, the police officer said.
A decomposed body of a woman, suspected to have been killed two months ago, was found stuffed inside a box in north Delhi's Sabzi Mandi area Tuesday, police said. The victim, identified as Nirmala, is in her mid-30s, they said. According to a senior police officer, the victim's husband Santosh, a daily wager, is absconding and is the prime suspect in the case. The body was found inside a flat in Geeta Saran Colony, he said. Sultan, the owner of the building, told police said that around two months ago, Santosh had said he was going to Bihar and that his wife had already left but would return within 15 days. He said that the two were never seen after that, the officer said. The body has been sent for postmortem and police were on the lookout for Santosh, he added.

A 25-year-old man was Tuesday shot dead allegedly by some motorcycle-borne assailants in Rohini's Aman Vihar area, police said. The deceased has been identified as Kuldeep, they said. The incident took place at around 7.30 pm when five men riding two motorcycles opened fire at Kuldeep and fled from the spot, a senior police officer said. The victim was rushed to a nearby hospital, where he was declared brought dead, he said. Kuldeep sustained a gun shot injury to his chest, he added. Two contractual workers died and three others were hospitalised after apparently inhaling toxic gas when they entered a septic tank at a house in northwest Delhi on Tuesday, police said. Investigations revealed that a person named Gulam Mustafa owns a semi-built plot at Bhagya Vihar area of Prem Nagar in Rohini. He started construction of a house a few days back, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Rohini) S D Mishra said. The plot has a 10-foot-deep septic tank, in which Mustafa and a mason named Rambir allegedly asked two labourers to go inside for cleaning in the afternoon. The labourers refused to clean the tank since they were not trained, but they were forced to enter after being blackmailed with not getting paid three days of wages, the DCP said. The labourers went inside the tank and fell unconscious. A local court Tuesday convicted a missionary school head and five others in connection with the gang-rape of five tribal women last year. Additional District Judge Rajesh Kumar found the six them guilty and will pronounce the quantum of sentence on May 15, Public Prosecutor Sushil Kumar Jaiswal said. Father Alfonso Aind, who was on bail from March 14, was taken into custody immediately after the court convicted him, he said. Aind was arrested after the gang-rape on June 19 last year as the police had registered an FIR against him for aiding and abetting the crime. He was charged with not stopping the guilty and not informing the police. A separate FIR was filed against the other five persons in connection with the rape and they were arrested. The victims were part of a troupe that visited a school in Kochang in Khunti district to enact a play on anti-human trafficking and migration when the five persons took them forcibly to a nearby forest and raped them at gunpoint.
The state government Tuesday told the Gujarat High Court that it will issue a circular within a week asking police to strictly adhere to the 'D K Basu guidelines' concerning how they should behave when arresting, detaining or interrogating a person. The government also told the division bench of Acting Chief Justice Anant Dave and Justice Biren Vaishnav that it will include the D K Basu guidelines in the curriculum of the state police academy. The government's undertaking came in response to a PIL filed in the court highlighting how policemen were flouting mandatory requirements that have to be followed when arresting, detaining or interrogating any person as laid down by the Supreme Court in the 1997 DK Basu vs West Bengal case. Bhautik Bhatt, a social worker, filed the PIL "to prevent the rising trend in Gujarat of handcuffing various accused persons after their arrest by the police, taking them in public places where the accused persons are severely beaten and humiliated in public .
Six persons who were declared Bangladeshis living illegally in Assam were arrested in Kokrajhar district on Tuesday, police said. The Foreigners Tribunal declared these six, including three women, illegal migrants from Bangladesh. The declarations were made for some in 2006 and for others in 2011 but they were all absconding. DSP Border of Kokrajhar, Sorab Ali, said they were apprehended by a police task force from Gossaigaon sub- division of the district.
