Bangladeshi man working as teacher in Assam held, 20 others

A madrasa teacher who was declared a Bangladeshi living illegally in Assam was arrested, and 20 other Bangladeshis were deported to their country on Saturday, officials said. Abdur Rashid, who was working as a teacher in a government run madrasa since 2001, was declared a Bangladeshi by the Foreigners Tribunal of Morigaon district on October 30, 2016, official sources said. He had then moved the Gauhati High Court but it upheld the declaration of the Tribunal in September 2018. Rashid was in service till Saturday, the sources said adding that he will be sent to the detention camp inTezpur on Sunday. Meanwhile, 20 jailed Bangladeshis, including a woman, were deported through Sutarkandi on the international border in Karimganj district. Karimganj Superintendent of Police Manobendra Debroy said those 20 people were handed over to the Bangladesh Rifles (BDR), the border guards of the neighbouring country. Man arrested for killing elder in Dwarka

A 34-year-old man was arrested from Jafarpur Kalan area for allegedly killing his elder brother following an altercation over his illicit relationships with women and property dispute, police said Saturday. The accused, identified as Manoj Yadav, is a property dealer, they said. According to police, Shiv Kumar was on Thursday allegedly shot dead by his younger brother, Yadav, in front of his family following a quarrel over his illicit relationships and property-related dispute. He was taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him brought dead, police said. A case was registered and the statement of Kumar's wife was taken, they added. Sunanda Pushkar case: Court reserves order for May 13 on Swamy's plea seeking to be part of trial

A Delhi court on Saturday reserved its order for May 13 on BJP MP Subramanian Swamy's plea seeking to be part of the trial in the death of Sunanda Pushkar, wife of Congress MP Shashi Tharoor. Special judge Arun Bhardwaj passed the order after hearing all the parties. Swamy has sought permission for assisting the court in the case and also to bring on record the Delhi Police's vigilance report on tampering of evidence in the case, claiming that it might lead to framing of additional charges. He told the bench that he was not a stranger to the case as he had filed the PIL in the Supreme Court in the matter after which "things started moving". He said that his PIL was in larger interest of justice. Gadchiroli blast: Case registered against Naxal leader

Police have registered a case against Naxal leader Bhaskar Hichkani and over 40 others in connection with the blast in Maharashtra's Gadchiroli district in which 15 policemen and a driver were killed on May 1. The FIR has been registered at Purada police station, a local police official confirmed Saturday. Fifteen members of district police's Quick Response Team and a driver were killed when Naxals blew up their vehicle on Wednesday. Police sources had said earlier that the attack could be Naxals' response to the death of Bhaskar's wife in an encounter. Ramco alias Kamla Manku Narote (46), "divisional committee member" of Gatta Dalam of the Naxals, was killed in an encounter with police in Gadchiroli district on April 27. She was carrying a reward of Rs 16 lakh on her head.

Speeding car kills four in UP's Pratapgarh

Four persons, including two minors, resting under a tree alongside the Lucknow-Varanasi road here were killed after being run over by a speeding car, police said Saturday. The accident took place in Mahkani village and the deceased were identified as Mamta Devi (30), Gudhiya Devi (32), Neeraj (5) and Suman (4), Additional Superintendent of Police Avneesh Mishra said. The four were rushed to a local hospital, where doctors declared them brought dead, he said. The car also overturned and fell into a ditch, he added. The driver of the car was taken into custody and the bodies were sent for post-mortem, police said.

Court issues open ended NBW against Gulf based investor for alleged links to AgustaWestland scam

A Delhi court Saturday issued open ended Non Bailable Warrant (NBW) against a Gulf based investor for his alleged links to the AgustaWestland VVIP chopper scam. Special Judge Arvind Kumar, allowed the Enforcement Directorate's application against Gulf investor/ businessman Omar Ali Balsharaf. The agency's Special Public Prosecutor D P Singh and advocate Naveen Kumar Matta argued that the ED had summoned Balsharaf multiple times since March 2018, but he did not join the investigation deliberately. The ED further said by not joining the investigation, he was evading the process of law and NBW against him was necessary to secure his presence in the instant case for an effective investigation. Investigators looking for sex tapes in R. Kelly sexual abuse case

Federal investigators are digging for possibly more sex tapes of rapper R. Kelly allegedly involving underage girls.According to TMZ, rumours around the reported sex tapes were circulating since 2008 when the rapper went on trial for child porn charges. 'I don't remember', says Akbar to queries from Ramani's counsel

Former Union Minister M J Akbar, who recorded his statement before a Delhi court on Saturday in a defamation case filed by him against journalist Priya Ramani, replied that he does not remember their meeting and other details after he was cross-examined by Ramani's counsel. Akbar, who appeared before before Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, said that his defamation complaint against journalist Priya Ramani, who has accused him of sexual misconduct 20 years ago, was "correct" as his public life has been "adversely affected" and "lifetime's good reputation" damaged by her "offensive words". 2 held for robbing Mumbai jeweller of over Rs 1 cr

Two persons were arrested Saturday for allegedly robbing cash and ornaments worth over Rs one crore from a jewellery shop in Mahim. According to police, the accused, one of whom was an employee of the jewellery shop, tied the owner and assaulted him before fleeing with cash, jewellery, a mobile phone and licensed revolver of the victim. The Crime Branch's Unit V, acting on a tip-off, picked up Rana Purohit and Pukhraj Bhil from Vasai in neighbouring Palghar district, said an official. While the FIR mentioned that items worth Rs 85.63 lakh were stolen, the official said recovery from the two accused has been to the tune of Rs 1.90 crore. Rana and Bhil have been booked under Indian Penal Code section 394 (voluntarily causing hurt in committing robbery), 342 (wrongful confinement), 381 (theft by clerk or servant of property in possession of master) and other relevant provisions, he said. They have been remanded in police custody till May 9.

2 cars with same registration number seized in JK's Kathua, 1 person held

Two private cars of same make, colour and bearing identical registration number were seized in the Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. A police spokesman said they have arrested a man in this connection. The person was arrested after the owner of one of the cars lodged a complaint with the Lakhanpur police station that another car of the same make, colour and registration number is plying in the town. He also said he had purchased his car from a person named Mohammad Rafiq, a resident of Broindhai Hatli village in Kathua. Police said Rafiq was arrested after it came to light that he recently purchased a brand new car and intentionally used the same registration number. The spokesman said a case has been registered and police are seeking clarification from authorities concerned.

3 Bangladeshis involved in dacoity cases arrested

The Delhi Police on Saturday claimed to have arrested three Bangladeshi nationals, who were suspected to be involved in several cases of dacoity.Two country-made firearms with four live cartridges and two Bangladeshi passports have been recovered from them by the police."The three accused -- Kamrul, Sahidul and Nazrul and others committed crimes in several parts of the country. Farmer attempts suicide over error in land documents

: A farmer consumed pesticide at the Narayanpet district Collectorate Saturday as he was allegedly upset over an error in his land documents, police said. The 45-year-old farmer has been seeking correction in pattadar (landowner) passbook in which his property was allegedly shown to be less than what he held, the police said. The problem was not resolved though he met the revenue officials, they said. He was taken to a hospital and was out of danger, they said. 3 of Bangladeshi gang arrested in robbery, dacoity cases across India: Police

Three Bangladeshi nationals have been arrested in Delhi for their alleged involvement in several cases of dacoity and robbery across India, police said Saturday. They have been identified as Kamrul, Sahidul Islam and Nazrul, all residents of Bagerhat in Bangladesh, officials said. With their arrest, police claimed to have cracked six cases of dacoity committed in Karnataka, Orissa, Goa and Lucknow in Uttar Pradesh. "The accused were arrested following a tip off that they would be coming near SaraiKale Khan bus terminus. Two country made-pistols and four live cartridges were seized from them," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) G Ram Gopal Naik said, adding that the gang used to target posh colonies. They usually used to enter the houses late night through windows after cutting grills and looted valuables at gun point. 3 drug peddlers, 4 bovine smugglers held in J-K's Poonch

Three suspected drug peddlers and four bovine smugglers were arrested Saturday in two separate operations in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, police said. The three suspected drug peddlers were arrested from Poonch town and were detained under different preventive sections of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) and sent to judicial custody, a police official said. In a separate incident, four persons were arrested after police foiled their attempt to smuggle bovines along the Mughal road, connecting Poonch with Shopian district of south Kashmir, the official said. Four load carriers, heading towards Kashmir, were intercepted separately by a police party and 16 buffaloes were rescued, he said. A case was registered and the accused were arrested, the official said, adding that their vehicles were also seized.

Muzaffarpur home case: RJD demands Nitish govt dismissal

The RJD on Saturday demanded resignation of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar in view of the CBI's revelation in the Supreme Court that 11 minor girls were allegedly murdered in the Muzaffarpur shelter home where a sex scandal has broken out in 2018. Fisherman sentenced to life imprisonment for murder

A court in Maharashtra's Thane district Saturday sentenced a 40-year-old fisherman to life imprisonment for killing a man three years ago. District judge H M Patwardhan convicted David Juran Malya and sentenced him to life imprisonment apart from imposing a fine of Rs 5,000 on him. Public prosecutor Ujjwala Moholkar said both Malya and the victim, Brain Muni (33), were fishermen and lived in the same locality in Uttan area of the district. On October 12, 2015, they had a quarrel over a petty issue and Malya stabbed Muni many times. Malya was arrested the following day. The prosecution examined more than a dozen witnesses to prove its case, Moholkar said.

Delhi Police arrest man who killed elder brother
