A journalist of a web portal and another person have been arrested here for allegedly circulating fake news and a morphed photo of Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy and a Kannada actress, police said Friday. A Gangadhar, owner of UKSuddi.in, and Ajith Shetty Heranje, a BJP sympathiser, were arrested Thursday, a police officer at the High Grounds police station said. A case was registered against them under various IPC sections, including 468 (forgery), 507 (criminal intimidation by an anonymous communication) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman). An Indian-origin man has been sentenced to six years' imprisonment for causing the death of another man while driving dangerously in London. Jaskaren Dayal collided with the victim's vehicle while driving drunk and at way above the speed limit in north-west London in January last year. A 32-year old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment by a Delhi court for murdering a youth eight years ago, saying the victim was only 18-19 years of age and a precious human life was lost. The court convicted Mohd Shamim, a resident of West Delhi, for the murder of Mukesh Chand and imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on him. "In the present case, it has to be kept in mind that the victim was only 18-19 years of age and precious human life was lost. Pakistan's Supreme Court Friday dismissed a petition of ailing former prime minister Nawaz Sharif for permanent bail on medical grounds, saying there was no immediate threat to his life. Sharif, 69, was granted six-week interim bail by the top court on March 26 to undergo medical treatment and he filed the petition on April 27 for permanent bail as he was suffering from acute anxiety and depression that may lead to "sudden death". A three-member bench headed by Chief Justice Asif Saeed Khosa who heard Sharif's petition also rejected his plea seeking permission for treatment in the UK. After hearing the arguments and seeing the medical report, the bench turned down the petition by observing that there was nothing new in the medical reports that suggested immediate threat to his life. The chief justice also said the court gave six-week bail to Sharif for treatment. Three labourers died allegedly after inhaling toxic gases while cleaning a septic tank of a housing society at Nalasopara in the district early Friday, police said. The incident took place in Anand View Apartments in Nilemore locality around 1 am, police said. "The three labourers, who were in the age group of 25 to 35, went into the septic tank to clean it. However, they died inside possibly due to inhalation of toxic gases," spokesperson of Palghar police Hemant Katkar said. Their bodies were pulled out by the fire brigade personnel and a team of disaster management cell. They were sent for post-mortem, he added. "Eight persons have been booked on the charge of negligence," Katkar said. An offence was registered against them under IPC section 304A (causing death by negligence), police said.

A police officer said a case has been registered against the accused -- Sachin and his two associates Mohit and Vipin Kumar -- for allegedly abducting the girl from the village in Jansath town of the district.
