BJP activist's son found hanging from tree in Purulia

A BJP activist's son was found hanging from a tree on Thursday morning in Arsha block of Purulia district, police said. Sishupal Singh (22), the son of a BJP activist and local panchayat committee member, was missing since Wednesday, Purulia Superintendent of Police (SP) Akash Magharia said. "A missing complaint was filed by Singh's family members Wednesday evening. He was spotted hanging from a tree on the outskirts of Senabona village around 9am by the locals, who then reported the matter to the police station," he said. It's a case of "unnatural death" and the body has been sent for post mortem, the SP said, adding that an investigation has been initiated into the matter. SC rejects BJP leader's plea for transferring Mamata bounty cases to single court

The Supreme Court has dismissed a plea seeking transfer of all cases related to FIRs filed against Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha leader Yogesh Varshney, to one court.Varshney has been accused of declaring a bounty of Rs 11 lakh for beheading West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India Ranjan Gogoi and also comprising Justices Deepak Gupta and Sanjiv Khanna refused to entertain the transfer petition moved by Varshney."We heard the contentions of the learned counsel for the petitioner and perused the relevant material. We are not inclined to entertain the transfer petition. New Zealand official guilty over DC embassy toilet camera

One of New Zealand's highest ranking military officers was Thursday found guilty of trying to secretly film people in the toilet at the country's embassy in Washington DC. Alfred Keating, 59, was New Zealand's top defence official when a hidden camera was found in the embassy bathroom in July 2017. He had denied a charge of attempting to make an intimate visual recording but a High Court jury returned a unanimous guilty verdict at the end of a two-week trial, local media reported. A small camera mounted inside a heating duct in the bathroom was discovered when the panel it was attached to fell to the floor. The court was told the camera's media card had traces of Keating's DNA, and it had also at one time been connected to his laptop. Enforcement Directorate (ED) and CBI conveyed to the Special CBI court on Thursday that Christian Michel, alleged middleman in the AgustaWestland deal, should celebrate Easter in custody because he might make statements outside which can lead to derailment in investigations."Michel can participate in Easter while in custody. Ganja worth over Rs 1 crore seized, 3 arrested

: Over 1,000 kg of ganja worth Rs 1.68 crore allegedly being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh to Maharashtra in a truck was seized and three people were arrested, directorate of revenue intelligence said Thursday. The lorry carrying the narcotic concealed under bricks was intercepted near here Wednesday by the DRI sleuths acting on a tip off, a press release said here. The 1,121 kg of the cannabis was being smuggled from Sileru in the state to Sholapur in Maharashtra, the release said. The drug and the vehicle were seized under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, it said adding that three people were arrested.

Two men rape teenaged girl after tying up her friend in Maha

A 15-year-old girl was allegedly raped by two unidentified persons, who tied her male friend to a tree before committing the offence in Palghar district of Maharashtra, police said on Thursday. The incident took place on Monday after the girl left her home in Virar area around 8 pm to meet one of her friends. Enroute, she met her 16-year-old male friend who offered to accompany her, a police spokesperson said. As they walked a short distance on the road, the two accused came there and forcefully took the girl and the boy to an isolated place nearby, he said. The accused tied the boy to a tree with a rope and then dragged the girl behind the bushes where they allegedly raped her, the police official said. The accused also beat up the boy. They warned him and the girl against informing anyone about the incident and then fled, he said. Cannabis worth Rs 1.68 crore seized in Hyderabad

Officials of the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Thursday seized 1121.5 kilograms of cannabis, valued around Rs 1 crore 68 lakhs, from a Sholapur-bound truck in Hyderabad.Officials intercepted the truck at Panthangi Toll Plaza on Vijayawada-Hyderabad National Highway.After searching the vehicle, officials found 546 high-density polyethylene (HDPE) packages wrapped with biaxially oriented polypropylene (BOPP) self-adhesive tape weighing more than a ton of Cannabis, also known as Ganja.The said Narcotic drug and the truck which was used for concealment and transportation of the contraband was seized under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985.DRI officials have also arrested three persons, including the mastermind in the case.

Amarinder Singh condemns beheading of 2 Punjabis in Saudi Arabia, says would seek report from MEA

Condemning the beheading of two people from Punjab in Saudi Arabia, Punjab Chief Minister Capt. A Guatemalan presidential candidate has been charged with conspiring to import cocaine to the United States in a bid to secure cartel funds for his election, the Justice Department said Wednesday. Candidate Mario Amilcar Estrada Orellana and another alleged conspirator, Juan Pablo Gonzalez Mayorga, were arrested in Miami, the department said in a statement. 4 held for blackmailing men after filming them in comprising situations

A woman and a police head constable were among four people arrested from Gautam Buddh Nagar for allegedly extorting money from men after filming them in compromising situations, police said Wednesday.
