The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) told the Delhi High Court on Monday that it had terminated the over-22-week pregnancy of a minor rape victim as continuing with it would have had a severe impact on the girl's physical and mental health. It also told the court that the foetus had been preserved for DNA analysis in the rape case. The submission was made before Justice Najmi Waziri, who, thereafter, disposed of the plea moved on behalf of the rape victim seeking permission to medically terminate her pregnancy. The high court had, on June 14, asked the AIIMS to set up a medical board to examine whether it was necessary to end the pregnancy of the 14-year-old rape victim and to carry out the procedure expeditiously, if required. The Patiala Police Monday dismissed 11 of its personnel including six station house officers (SHOs) from service for their alleged involvement in corruption and drug related cases. The action came days after Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh directed the state police chief to deal strictly with police personnel assisting drug traffickers in the state. Patiala Senior Superintendent of Police Mandeep Singh Sidhu said a detailed probe conducted by the department found that the personnel, including a woman SHO, were either involved in cases of drug trafficking or corruption. Following their dismissal, they were arrested, Sidhu added. A junior engineer and a lineman of Jaipur Discom and a village development officer were arrested on Monday for allegedly accepting bribes, an Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) official said. In Bhilwara, Village Development Officer Banna Lal Regar, posted at the Shahpura panchayat samiti, was arrested for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 2,500, he said. According to a complaint, the accused officer had allegedly demanded Rs 4,000 to release funds received under the PM Housing Scheme, the official said. The complainant had already paid Rs 1,500 and the accused was arrested while accepting the remaining Rs 2,500, he added. Police and the BSES have busted a gang whose members allegedly tried to extort money from a consumer in Greater Kailash area here by posing as enforcement officials of the power supply agency, a spokesperson of the discom said Monday. One of the gang members, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Budh Vihar, was arrested last week. Two other gang members are absconding, he said. The gang was trying to extort Rs 30,000 from a resident of affluent Greater Kailash area and almost succeed in doing so by posing as BSES enforcement officials, he added. The gang members had approached a Greater Kailash II resident and owner of an under construction house in the area's S Block, the spokesperson said. "They almost managed to convince the resident that he was misusing the electricity connection and would have to pay a penalty of Rs 1,25,000. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Kamal Nath has met Home Minister Amit Shah and asked him to release over Rs 800 crore as central grant to check crime against women and children in his state more effectively. Some other issues related to the state were discussed during the Sunday meeting, officials said on Monday. Nath, who took over as the chief minister in December, has also written a letter to the home minister in this regard. In the letter, he drew the home minister's attention towards one of the sensitive issues of the crime against women and children. Congress leader Sunny Rajpal on Monday allegedly assaulted cops here after he was denied entry to a meeting chaired by Public Works Department Minister Sajjan Singh Verma.However, the Congress leader has denied of any such assault. With rise in number of cyber crimes across the state, the Odisha Police has decided to set up three more cyber police stations including one in the state capital, DGP R P Sharma said on Monday. At present there are four cyber police station in Odisha at Cuttack, Rourkela, Berhampur and Sambalpur. "There has been increase in the cyber crime cases in the state. Three more cyber police stations will set at Bhubaneswar, Jeypore and Balasore," Sharma said while addressing a three-day training programme of the cyber investigating officers here. Official sources said while 120 cyber cases were registered in the state in 2013, the number increased to 868 in 2018. The DGP said the number of investigating officers will also be increased. A 15-year-old girl was stabbed and thrown into a canal by her father and brother for refusing to marry a boy of their choice, police said on Monday. The girl suffered injuries in the stomach and face but managed to swim to a nearby village and told the locals about her ordeal who then informed the police and got her admitted to the district hospital here, SP City Dinesh Tripathi said. The incident took place on Friday on Asmani bridge in Lakhimpur area, police said, adding that the girl's father and brother have been arrested.
