A five-year-old girl was kidnapped and raped by an unidentified person in Madhya Pradesh's Narsinghpur, a police official said Tuesday. The girl is severely injured and is undergoing treatment in a hospital in Jabalpur, he added. "Some nomad families are staying on a plot near the bus stand under Ganj police station limits. The five-year-old girl belongs to one of these families. She was raped on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday," Narsinghpur Superintendent of Police Gurukaran Singh said. "The victim was sleeping with her mother and sister. She was picked up by an unidentified person and raped near a bridge. She was found unconscious at the spot by her family," Singh added. Police Monday night foiled a bank robbery bid and arrested nine persons before they could execute their plan in Thane district of Maharashtra. Deputy Commissioner of Police Vivek Pansare Tuesday said a patrolling team stopped a man moving suspiciously on a motorcycle in Kalyan Monday night, who disclosed that other members of the gang were going to rob a nationalised bank on the Kalyan-Murbad road in the wee hours of Tuesday. When the gang members arrived at the spot, police personnel who were lying in wait arrested them. The accused hailed from Chennai and various places in Andhra Pradesh, the DCP said. A police official said the gang members have at least 23 cases pending against them in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Police seized three motorcycles, knives, sickles, glass cutters, screw drivers and 25 mobile phone handsets from the accused and booked them under various sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Arms Act. A Delhi court Tuesday sentenced AAP MLA Manoj Kumar to three months in jail for obstructing the election process at a booth in east Delhi during the 2013 Assembly polls, saying offences relating to polls should be sternly dealt with. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, however, granted Kumar bail on furnishing a bond of Rs 10,000 to enable him to challenge the order in a superior court. Kumar, currently an MLA from east Delhi's Kondli constituency, had denied the charges and claimed that the case was politically motivated. "The accused, Manoj Kumar, has been convicted for the commission of offence under section 131 (disorderly conduct in or near polling stations) of the Representation of People Act. Alleging that her 22-year old daughter was forcibly converted to Christianity, a Hindu woman Tuesday petitioned the District Superintendent of Police seeking to restore her, police said. The woman, a resident of nearby Arasur, approached the SP after the local police recently closed her complaint as her daughter during an inquiry told them she had embraced Christianity on her own volition. According to the petitioner, she noticed her daughter, working in Tiruchirappalli, wearing a chain with a Cross when she had come home last week. When asked about it, she had told her mother that she had converted to Christianity. The mother then lodged a complaint in Sulur Police station. A case of rape has been registered against Vice Chancellor of Nanaji Deshmukh Veterinary Science University Dr P D Juyal following a court direction, the police said here Tuesday. A first information report was filed against Dr Juyal under section 376 (rape) of the IPC Monday, Civil Lines Police Station in-charge Praveen Singh Dhurve told PTI. A court of Judicial Magistrate (First Class) on December 29, 2018, had directed the police to register an FIR. The forty-year-old woman had approached the court seeking a direction to police to file an FIR and investigate her complaint.
