Ghulam Jeelani Qadri, editor of 'Daily Afaaq', was arrested late Monday night in a case that was registered in 1990 under section three of Terrorist and Disruptive Activities (Prevention) Act. He was arrested on a non-bailable warrant issued by the then chief judicial magistrate on October 15, 1992. An accountability court Tuesday acquitted Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf leader Babar Awan but turned down acquittal appeal filed by former prime minister and senior Pakistan People's Party leader Raja Pervez Ashraf in a corruption case. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had named a total of seven accused, five of whom had earlier filed bail pleas, in the case pertaining to delay in execution of the Nandipur Power Plant Project which caused a loss of Rs 27 billion to the national exchequer, the Express Tribune reported. Two women in Uttar Pradesh's Bulandshahr district were crushed to death under the wheels of a car being allegedly driven by a man who they rebuked for passing lewd comment against a member of their family, police said on Tuesday. The incident took place on late Monday night, the police said, adding that a case was registered against four persons including the main accused Nakul Singh who has been arrested. An argument over an old Rs 10 banknote cost a 35-year-old man his life in Dadar in Mumbai, police said Tuesday. According to police, the victim Mohammed Hanif Siddhiqui had handed the old banknote to a vendor while purchasing vegetables from him outside Dadar (West) railway station on Monday night. An argument broke out between the two over the old currency, which soon turned into a scuffle during which the vendor allegedly stabbed Siddiqui with a knife. Siddhiqui was rushed to hospital where he was declared dead, he said. The vegetable seller, who fled from the crime scene, was later arrested. The Delhi Police has registered FIRs to probe 18 cases in which photos and mobile numbers of women were uploaded on Facebook to defame them, the Home Ministry said on Tuesday. The ministry was asked whether the government is aware that in 2018, the photos and mobile numbers of many women were uploaded on Facebook to defame them as call girls and the police has not taken any action against the culprits even after the registration of the complaint in the crime branch. Delhi Police registers all cognizable complaints with an objective that no crime, especially crime against the vulnerable groups including women and girls, goes unreported and action in all such cases is taken as per provisions of law, it said. In 2018, 18 such cases were registered in which photos and mobile numbers of women were uploaded to defame them, the ministry said in a written reply to Lok Sabha. A bridegroom and his aunt were killed and four others, including the bride, were injured Tuesday when their ill-fated car hit an electricity pole, police said. The deceased have been identified as Pintu (22), a resident of Ankare Gadhi; and his aunt Pushpa (35), a resident of Khurja. The bride, Sarvesh, was shifted to a hospital after her condition deteriorated. The incident took place on the outskirts of Prem Nagar falling under the Mant police station in the district, a police officer said. Two boys Tuesday drowned in a pond at Dhausad village here while trying to save a girl, police said. The incident took place in the morning when Atul (10) and Samir (12) were taking a bath in the pond and the girl slipped into to deep waters, ASP Bharat Kumar Pal said. While both managed to save the girl, they themselves drowned. The boys were later taken out from the pond and rushed to a hospital, where they were declared dead. Police is probing the matter.

A Delhi court Tuesday sentenced AAP MLA Manoj Kumar to three months in jail for obstructing election process at a polling station in Kalyan Puri area of east Delhi during 2013 Assembly polls. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Samar Vishal, however, granted Kumar bail on furnishing a bail bond of Rs 10,000 to enable him to challenge the order in a superior court. The court had on June 11 convicted Kumar for obstructing a public servant in discharge of public functions, punishable under 186 IPC, and disorderly conduct in or near polling stations, section 131 of Representation of the People Act. The case was lodged on a complaint regarding hindrance in the election process being created by over 50 protesters, led by the then AAP candidate Kumar, at the main gate of an MCD school, during 2013 Delhi assembly elections, which caused problems to the voters.
