The former Kolkata top cop is accused of allegedly withholding some documents related to Saradha and Rose Valley chit fund cases.Earlier in the month, the CBI had attempted to arrest Kumar as per directions issued by the additional CBI director Nageswara Rao. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday approached the Delhi High Court seeking custodial interrogation of corporate lobbyist Deepak Talwar in connection to an alleged violation of Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA).This development came to light just days after Delhi court sent Talwar to 14-day judicial custody in connection with AgustaWestland case. The Supreme Court Tuesday decided not to pass any order on summoning West Bengal chief secretary, DGP and Kolkata police commissioner for their personal presence before it in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam in which the three have been issued contempt notice. The Centre Tuesday told the Supreme Court that 938 persons are at present detained in six detention centres in Assam out of which 823 have been declared as foreigners by tribunals. The Centre was responding to the January 28 queries of the apex court which had asked the Centre and the state to provide the details of the functional detention centres in Assam and the foreigners detained there during the last 10 years. The Supreme Court Tuesday granted protection from arrest in all cases registered against former IPS officer Bharati Ghosh, who had recently joined the BJP. A bench headed by Justice A K Sikri said no coercive action should be taken against her and posted the matter for further hearing after three weeks. Ghosh had moved the apex court seeking protection from arrest, saying the West Bengal government has registered 10 FIRs against her. She had said that apex court had already granted protection from arrest in seven cases but the state has registered three more FIRs against her. The West Bengal government opposed the plea of Ghosh and said there are clear evidences against her and submitted a transcript of a conversation between Ghosh and her personal security officer.
Pakistani citizens in Rajasthan's Bikaner have been asked to leave within 48 hours, district officials said, citing law and order situation in the aftermath of the Pulwama terror attack. Bikaner Collector Kumar Pal Gautam issued the order on Monday directing the Pakistani citizens to leave the district as it may create law and order problem in the wake of the attack by Pakistan-based terror group Jaish-e-Mohammed in which 40 CRPF personnel were killed. The collector, who issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC), also asked the hotel owners and those running business establishments to not let Pakistani people stay in their properties. The order is effective for two months and also bans the use of Pakistani SIM cards in the district.
A history-sheeter, wanted in more than 30 cases including rape and murder, was injured in an encounter with the police in Odisha's Kendrapara district early Tuesday, a police officer said. The accused, Ganesh Mallick (36), opened fired when he came face to face with a special squad of police near Kajala- Duhuria road in the district and the officers retaliated in self-defence, he said. "In the encounter that ensued, Mallick sustained bullet wounds on his right leg and was immediately hospitalized. The doctors have said he is out of danger," the officer said. No police officer sustained injuries in the exchange of fire, he stated. Mallick, who operated from Kendrapara, Jagatsinghpur, Bhubaneswar and Cuttack among other areas in Odisha, was on the run for the past five years, he added.

Two people were mowed down and three others injured by a car in which senior state BJP leader and MLA C T Ravi was travelling near Kunigal in Tumakuru district early Tuesday, police said. A court in Chhattisgarh's Raipur district on Monday rejected an anticipatory bail application of former state BJP minister Rajesh Munat in a case related to alleged fixing of the 2014 Antagarh bypoll. Munat filed a pre-arrest bail application after the Raipur Police registered a case against him on February 3 based on a complaint by Congress leader Kiranmayee Nayak, Munat's lawyer Ramakant Mishra told PTI. Four children and two women were among seven persons killed Monday when the car they were travelling in collided with a truck in Tuljapur ghat section in Osmanabad district of Maharashtra, police said. Four others were seriously injured in the incident that occurred on a sharp turn at around 5 PM, a police official said. The ill-fated car was headed towards Tuljapur, which is famous for the temple of goddess Tuljabhavani, from Solapur, a distance of 47 kms. The injured were admitted to the government hospital in Osmanabad, around 25 kms from Tuljapur.
