A four-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a 35-year-old sanitation worker when she had gone to relieve herself at a public toilet in west Delhi's Naraina area, police said Monday. The incident took place on February 6 and was reported to the Naraina police station on Monday, they added. Investigations revealed that the girl, who lived nearby, had gone to the public toilet when its cleaner allegedly grabbed her and raped her. The girl narrated the ordeal to her parents following which they approached the police, they said. The victim was taken for medical examination. A case was registered and the accused arrested, Deputy Commissioner of Police (west) Monika Bhardwaj said. The minor's condition is now stable, she said. A Chinese man was apprehended at the Delhi airport Monday for allegedly carrying gold bars worth Rs 12 lakh in his baggage in violation of rules, officials said. They identified the man as Jian Zhang and said he was intercepted by the CISF personnel at about 3 am at the Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) when he arrived at the facility to take a flight to Paro in Bhutan. Four gold bars, each weighing 100gm, were recovered from his hand bag and he was handed over to Customs department officials as he could not produce required valid documents for carrying the yellow metal, they said. The estimated value of the gold bars is about Rs 12 lakh, they added.
A 16-year-old boy was arrested after he briefly took control of a small plane during a short commercial flight over western Alaska, authorities said. The teen was in the front passenger seat of the Piper Cherokee Six on a recent Yute Commuter Service flight from Napakiak to Bethel, KYUK-AM reported last week. The flight between the two remote communities usually takes about four minutes. The teen grabbed the aircraft controls shortly after takeoff, causing the "plane to enter a steep climb and then a dive toward the ground," Alaska State Troopers said. A woman sitting behind the teen grabbed him around the neck, pulling him away from the controls, authorities said. The pilot stabilised the aircraft and returned to Napakiak. An agent for the regional airline contacted the village public safety officer to detain the teen. West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi Monday expressed his "deep grief" over the killing of Krishnaganj Trinamool Congress MLA Satyajit Biswas inside a Sarswati Puja marquee. Tripathi conveyed condolences to the bereaved family, Biswas' friends and supporters, a statement released from the Raj Bhawan, here said. Biswas was killed on Saturday at Phoolbari area, about 15 km from the Bangladesh border. BJP leader Mukul Roy and four others have been named in the FIR in connection with the killing of the TMC MLA. Two persons have been arrested in connection with the killing while the revolver that was allegdly used in the murder was sent for forensic tests. The National Commission for Scheduled Castes (NCSC) Monday said it has taken note of the deaths of manual scavengers belonging to the SC community and tough steps were being taken, including filing of cases against employers under the SC/ST Atrocities Act. Vice Chairman of the commission, L Murugan said in at least 11 incidents of manual scavenging, more than 20 people belonging to SC and other castes died in the national capital last year. "Tough steps are being taken, including filing of cases under the provisions of SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Amendment Act 2015 in cases where the deceased belonged to the SC community," he told reporters here. Citing deaths of two manual scavengers in Coimbatore last month, Murugan said he ordered the police officials to invoke the SC/ST Atrocities Act in the case. Offences under the Act are non-bailable and facilitate compensation for victims, he noted. "Last year in Delhi, in at least 11 occurences of manual scavenging over 20 .
A man, who was being pursued by police for five years in connection with several charges against him including criminal intimidation, was arrested on Monday in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, an official said. The accused, Mohammad Latief of Manwa-Teryath village, was arrested from Kalakote market, the police spokesman said. He said a case under various sections of the Ranbir Penal Code, including wrongful restraint, act endangering life or personal safety of others, intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of the peace and criminal intimidation, was registered against Latief in 2014. However, he was evading arrest, the spokesman said.
Two men, who had allegedly killed their neighbour over a trivial issue at Dwarka's Issapur village on January 19, have been arrested, police said Monday. The two accused -- Sunny (27) and Vikas (23) -- were arrested by police on Saturday. Two sophisticated pistols and three live cartridges were recovered from them. The Bombay High Court on Monday extended Dalit scholar Anand Teltumbde's interim protection from arrest till February 22 and directed the Pune Police to release him on a personal bond and surety in case he is arrested before the next hearing. Teltumbde, who is facing arrest by the Pune Police in the Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case, was granted time till February 11 to exhaust all his legal remedies seeking protection from arrest. He had approached the high court earlier this year, seeking anticipatory bail. While his bail plea was opposed by the Pune Police, who urged that Teltumbde be denied any relief, the court accepted the scholar's request for an adjournment of the hearing, and protected him from arrest until the next hearing on February 22. The Supreme Court Monday sought response of the Uttar Pradesh government on a plea seeking direction to the state to amend law to bring the office of chief minister under the purview of state ombudsman, Lokayukta. The apex court agreed to examine the plea that has sought a direction to the state government for amending the 43-year-old state law -- the Uttar Pradesh Lokayukta and UpLokayukta Act, 1975 -- to bring the Chief Minister under purview of the ombudsman to ensure effective control over corrupt activities. A repeat offender was Monday sentenced to 10 years in jail by a POCSO court here for raping an eight-year-old girl in suburban Vakola area here in 2013. Aiyaz Ansari (38) was found guilty under section 376 (rape), 363 (kidnapping) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code as well as relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act by Additional Sessions Judge B V Kale. The judge also fined him Rs 65,000, additional public prosecutor Rakesh Tiwari said. As per the prosecution, the incident took place on October 14, 2013, in Vakola when the girl was returning her home from school. Ansari introduced himself to the victim as her father's friend and took her to a secluded place where he raped her. During the course of trial, the prosecution examined six witnesses, Tiwari said. The Delhi High Court on Monday issued a notice to meat exporter Moin Qureshi in CBI's application seeking enhancement of his additional security amount from Rs 2 crore to Rs 6 crore in response to his travel to Pakistan and UAE.Earlier this month, a trial court had allowed Qureshi to travel to the two countries. Police on Monday seized 800 kg cannabis from a truck in Odisha's Ganjam district and arrested three persons, a senior police officer said. The seizure was made at Singipur in Aska-Bhanjanagara road, about 60 km from here and three persons were arrested, said Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Bhanganagar, Utkal Keshari Das. The three persons were arrested under the NDPS (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act. Besides ganja, three cell phones and Rs 3.24 lakh in cash were seized from the accused persons, the SDPO said. Das said the preliminary investigation revealed that the contraband was being transported illegally from Mohana in Gajapati district to New Delhi, when the police seized the narcotic substances. "We got a tip off about the consignment of ganja headed to New Delhi via Gangapur. The truck was intercepted and seized near Singipur," said SDPO. As many as 25 packets of ganja, packed in the plastic bags were hidden inside drivers cabin of the vehicle. .
In a setback to the ruling CPI(M) in Kerala, the CBI Monday slapped murder and conspiracy charges against party strongman P Jayarajan in a case relating to the murder of a 22-year-old Muslim Students Federation activist in 2012. The supplementary charge sheet, filed in a sessions court here, has also charged party MLA T V Rajesh in the conspiracy related to the killing. The CBI has charged Jayarajan with murder and conspiracy under Sections 302 and 120B of the Indian Penal Code, court sources said. According to the prosecution, Shukoor, a worker of the youth wing of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML), was killed on February 20, 2012, for attacking a convoy in which Jayarajan and Rajesh were travelling.
