A 26-year-old woman here has accused a man of raping her several times in the past few months on the pretext of marriage, police said Tuesday. The woman lodged a complaint at the Jansath police station on Monday, Station House Officer (SHO) RB Kaul said. He said a case has been registered and the matter is being investigated. In her complaint, the woman has alleged that she was raped for several months on the promise of marriage. But, when she put pressure on the man to marry her, he allegedly refused her proposal and threatened her, the SHO said.

One person was killed and six others were injured after members of two communities clashed at Chatela village here, police said Tuesday. The clash broke out after two men -- Rajkumar and Shavaiz -- entered into an argument following a quarrel between their children, Superintendent of Police, Rural, Alok Sharma, said. On Monday evening, members of the two groups attacked each other with sticks, leaving six injured and one dead, police said. Rajkumar was declared dead at a hospital here. The injured are undergoing treatment at the health facility, they said. Two people have been arrested and a search has been launched to nab the remaining accused, Sharma said. Police personnel have been deployed in the village to thwart any untoward incident, the officer said.

An extra-marital affair Monday resulted in the killing of a woman's 45-year-old husband and his nephew allegedly by her paramour and his accomplices in Rampura village in Gujarat's Mehsana district, police said, adding two persons were also injured in the clash. Police have arrested six of the nine accused on the charge of murder. "The wife of the 45-year-old deceased was having an affair with the prime accused Somaji Thakor, who is still absconding," said Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjita Vanzara. The incident occurred when the woman's husband and his nephew confronted Thakor over the issue, following which they and their relatives were attacked with sharp-edged weapons by Thakor and his accomplices, Vanzara said, adding further investigation is underway.

A nine-month-old girl, who was allegedly thrown into a well by her mother in Ranchi, was rescued and airlifted to a hospital in Delhi on Monday, where she is battling for her life, officials said. The condition of the infant is "critical" and she has been "kept on a ventilator" in a pediatric ICU at the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital (SGRH) here, they said. "The baby was flown from Ranchi to Delhi, and then taken to the SGRH through a green corridor in a critical condition," a senior official of the hospital said. According to the Delhi Traffic Police, to save her life, a 12-km green corridor was created from Indira Gandhi International Airport's Terminal 1-D to the hospital, "covering a distance of 12 kilometres in 13 minutes". "The girl was immediately transferred into an ambulance. The extradition of Vijay Mallya, accused of conspiracy to defraud banks and money laundering offences, has been approved by UK Home Secretary, the British government said on Monday, in a major blow to the liquor baron and boosting India's efforts to bring back the fugitive businessman. The 63-year-old business tycoon had been found to have a case to answer before the Indian courts by Westminster Magistrates' Court in London on December 10, 2018. Under the Extradition Treaty procedures, the Chief Magistrate's verdict was sent to Home Secretary Sajid Javid because only he was authorised to order Mallya's extradition. Javid, the UK's senior-most Pakistani-origin minister, had two months from that date to sign off on that order. Mallya now has 14 days from February 4 to apply for leave to appeal to the UK High Court.
