A complaint was filed on Monday in a court here against BJP president Amit Shah seeking registration of a case against him for sedition and other charges over his remarks in connection with the Supreme Court order on the Sabarimala issue. The complaint was filed by social activist Thakur Chandan Singh in the court of Chief Judicial Magistrate Saroj Kumari here. The court fixed November 6 for hearing the mat. Shah's comment made in the context of Sabarimala "has hurt the people's sentiments and is an attack on federal democratic structure of the country," the complaint alleged, citing newspapers report on Sunday regarding the BJP chief's comments. Police Monday busted a call centre operating illegally here in Maharashtra and arrested one person, an official said Assistant Superintendent of Police Atul Kulkarni said one person was arrested in connection with the fake call centre. Offences were registered against him under relevant sections of the Indian Telegraph Act with the Kashimira police station, he said. The call centre was operating from a commercial facility in the MIDC area, the officer said. Acting on a tip-off, a team of officials of the district rural police along with IT experts raided the commercial facility and unearthed the call centre operating in violation of regulations, he said. Kulkarni said the call centre was using banned or restrained softwares.
The Delhi High Court on Monday observed that the case of middleman Manoj Prasad, arrested in bribery case, was on a different footing from that of CBI Special Director Rakesh Asthana and DSP Devender Kumar -- both accused in the same matter. Justice Najmi Waziri said Prasad was a private person and Asthana and Kumar were public servants and nothing stops CBI from probing a private individual. The court said it would be decided during detailed hearing on the pleas of Asthana and Kumar, seeking quashing of the FIR, whether prior sanction from the competent authority was required to prosecute them. Warden Construction and Finance Ltd Monday settled proceedings with regulator Sebi in connection with alleged failure to obtain SCORES authentication on payment of Rs 6.8 lakh towards settlement charges. SCORES is Sebi's online complaint redressal system for investors. The regulator agreed to settle adjudication proceedings in the case, pertaining to alleged violation of circulars which mandated the firm to obtain SCORES authentication within a stipulated time after it was approached by the company with a plea under the settlement regulations. Under a settlement, an entity is allowed to settle charges by paying a penalty without admission or denial of guilt. In a settlement order, Securities and Exchange Board of India (Sebi) said, it is hereby ordered to "dispose of" the adjudication proceedings initiated against Warden Construction and Finance after the payment of Rs 6.8 lakh as settlement charges. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sources on Monday said that the required documents and files in connection with the investigation against its Director Alok Verma are being submitted to the Central Vigilance Commission (CVC). In a relief to the Maharashtra police, the Supreme Court Monday granted it more time to conclude its probe and file a chargesheet in the Koregaon-Bhima violence case. A bench headed by Chief Justice Ranjan Gogoi stayed the Bombay High Court order, which had set aside the lower court's verdict allowing extension of time to the police to file the probe report against the rights activists arrested in the case. The bench, also comprising justices S K Kaul and K M Joseph, issued notice to the rights activists on a plea of the Maharashtra government, seeking their replies within two weeks, and stayed the operation of the high court order.
