Ajay Chaudhary, 24, was killed point-blank range allegedly by armed men near his house in city's Sector 8 on the night of October 4, they said. His death followed two protests the next day by right wing groups, including the Bajrang Dal and the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, demanding compensation for the family and an accommodation. A farmer allegedly committed suicide on Monday in Odisha's Jajpur district with his family claiming that he was under stress due to debt burden, police said. Sisir Khatua (38) was found hanging from a beam in his house at Digambarpur village under the jurisdiction of Dharamsala police station. Three persons were arrested for allegedly killing their friend for Rs 5 lakh ransom and hiding his body in the bushes near Ganga canal here, police said Monday. The district magistrate court here expelled eleven people from Gautam Buddh Nagar for six months for illegally collecting parking fee in Noida's sector 16 and 58, officials said Monday. The proceedings against the accused were carried out under the provisions of the Uttar PradeshControl of Goondas Act,1970, they said. Eight of the accused were operating in sector 16, while three in sector 58. Related cases have been registered against them in local police stations. "The accused were illegally running parking operations in Noida. They were extorting money from common citizens in the name of parking fee. A suspected drug trafficker was arrested by the Gautam Buddh Nagar police Monday after he was allegedly held with 31 kg of cannabis, an official said. The accused, identified as Gopal Singh, a resident of Bhojpur in Bihar, was held in Jewar area of the district, he said. According to the police, the cannabis seized are worth Rs 5 lakh. "Singh was held during a routine checking in the morning from the expressway cut linking Jewar to Noida. He was carrying two bags filled with 31 kg of cannabis," the police official said. A case was registered against Singh at the Jewar police station under the Narcotics, Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985, the police official said. The Madras High Court set aside on Monday a lower court order holding four doctors of an eye hospital guilty of negligence after 60 people lost their eyesight after undergoing cataract surgeries free of cost at a camp in 2008. Justice G Jayachandran of the Madurai bench of the high court also set aside the November 18, 2017, order of the Additional District Court III (appellate court), enhancing the compensation to the affected persons to Rs 9.85 crore from Rs 2.75 crore. Quoting the prosecution report, the judge observed that the inspection of the operation theatre was conducted in 2011, three years after the operations were conducted. The judge said the prosecution had failed to make out a case against the doctors regarding any implied state of mind to cause harm. The principal sessions court has transferred all the defamation cases from its file to the special court designated for the purpose. Special Court Judge J Shanti quashed 13 defamation cases filed against Karunanidhi. Defamation cases filed against Murasoli Selvam, editor and publisher of the DMK party's mouthpiece 'Murasoli', were also transferred to the special court. Challenging it, Selvam filed a petition before the Madras High Court stating that he is neither an MLA nor an MP of Tamil Nadu. A man was awarded jail term of 1545 days by a family court here on Monday for not complying with a previous legal order which had directed him to pay the monthly maintenance allowance of Rs 1800 to his elderly parents. The dues that remained unpaid for amounted to Rs 49,000. Family court judge M K Parekh ordered that Kantibhai Solanki be arrested, after he told the court that he had no money to pay the monthly maintenance as had been directed by the court in 2015. The family court had ordered Kantibhai and his brother Dayabhai to pay monthly maintenance of Rs 1,800 each to their father Ranchhodbhai Solanki (68) and mother Jasumati Solanki (67), after the elderly couple moved the court in 2013. The Delhi High Court on Monday allowed CBI to file a closure report in the matter, bringing an end to the investigation into the mysterious disappearance of Ahmed. It did not agree with the allegation of Ahmed's mother, Fatima Nafees, that CBI wanted to file the closure report due to "political compulsions". Yavatmal Police Monday seized fake currencies in new denominations having face value of over Rs 6.77 lakh from a car and arrested a 27-year-old man, an official said. Apart from counterfeit currencies in denominations of Rs 200 and Rs 2000, the crime branch officials also seized a car, a printer and other material- collectively worth Rs 8,42,720. In a suspected hit-and-run case, a 13-year-old boy died on Sunday after allegedly being hit by a speeding car in outer Delhi's Nangloi area, police said on Monday. The incident took place on Saturday near Rohtak road when Amit, the victim, was going with his mother, they said. A case was registered in connection with the incident on the same day, police said. The victim was rushed to Sanjay Gandhi Memorial Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries, a senior police officer said. A 37-year-old man and his two accomplices have been arrested for allegedly killing his father for refusing to give him money for gambling, police said on Monday. A life convict from Gujarat's Sabarmati Jail who escaped in April while being taken to a hospital has been nabbed by Mumbai police, a senior official said Monday. Shiraz Pathan (32), alias Udta Kabutar, had been sentenced to life imprisonment for kidnapping and robbery and was lodged at Ahmedabad's Sabarmati Central Jail, he said. In April this year, Pathan had escaped while Gujarat police was taking him to Ahmedabad civil hospital for treatment, the official added. Acting on a tip-off, Mumbai police Sunday evening nabbed Pathan from near the Western Express Highway Metro station in suburban Andheri, the official said. Taking note of protests by police personnel against the arrest of their colleagues in connection with the killing of a tech company executive here, the Uttar Pradesh Police Monday said it has taken steps to thwart such agitations. The executive, Vivek Tiwari, was shot dead allegedly by constables at the Gomti Nagar locality in Lucknow when he refused to stop his car for checking on September 29. "It is gender discrimination, only other way round," a bench of Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice V K Rao observed after it was informed that male nurses were not recruited into the Army's nursing branch. The court gave the Centre two months time to take a decision on the issue and listed the matter for hearing on January 21, 2019. The central government's lawyer sought six months time to take a decision on recruiting male nurses saying that each Army base has to be communicated and their views taken.
