Bill on water dispute adjudication lapses following dissolution of 17th LS

Pending in Rajya Sabha since 2019 following its passage in the lower house, a bill which sought to address the adjudication of disputes concerning inter-state rivers and river valleys has lapsed following the dissolution of 17th Lok Sabha. Bills passed by Lok Sabha and pending in Rajya Sabha or those passed by Rajya Sabha and pending in Lok Sabha lapse after the lower house is dissolved. However, bills introduced and pending in Rajya Sabha do not lapse. A Rajya Sabha bulletin issued on Thursday said 'The Inter-State River Water Disputes (Amendment) Bill, 2019', passed by Lok Sabha and pending in Rajya Sabha, has lapsed under clause (5) of Article 107 of the Constitution, following the dissolution of 17th Lok Sabha. The amendment bill was introduced in Lok Sabha on July 25, 2019, by then Minister of Jal Shakti Gajendra Singh Shekhawat. 10 vacancies created in Rajya Sabha after members get elected to LS

The just-concluded general election has created as many as 10 vacancies in the Rajya Sabha after its members were elected to the Lok Sabha. B'luru court sends rape-accused Prajwal Revanna to 14-day judicial custody

A court here on Monday sent former JD(S) MP Prajwal Revanna, who is facing charges of rape and sexual abuse against several women, to 14 days judicial custody. He was produced before the 42nd Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate (ACMM) court as his Special Investigation Team (SIT) custody ended today. The court on May 31 remanded him to SIT custody till June 6, and later extended it till June 10. While in their custody, the SIT conducted a detailed investigation, including gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses, and questioned Revanna extensively about the allegations. The court, taking into consideration the gravity of the allegations and the evidence presented by the SIT, decided to remand him to judicial custody for 14 days, till June 24. Mamata discusses party's Lok Sabha strategy with newly elected TMC MPs

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday held a meeting of senior TMC leaders and newly elected MPs on Saturday to discuss the party's strategy in the Lok Sabha.
