The petroleum industry on Tuesday urged industry players to develop ethanol as a clean cooking fuel for Indian households as part of efforts to reduce dependence on imported LPG and expand biofuel use. R S Ravi, Director (Downstream) at the Federation of Indian Petroleum Industry (FIPI), made the appeal while addressing the All India Distillers' Association (AIDA) conference, highlighting ongoing research into ethanol-based cooking stoves. "A lot of work is happening" at agencies like the LPG Equipment Research Centre (LERC) and various IITs to develop ethanol-compatible and efficient cooking stoves, with prototypes likely to be ready soon, Ravi said. He sought active support from the All India Distillers Association (IDA) and its members on two key fronts: connecting with manufacturers to scale up production of these stoves, and more importantly, developing a viable supply chain to deliver ethanol directly to households. "This is a different ballgame. As of now, the way you are ..

The Aluminium Extrusion Manufacturers Association of India (ALEMA) has urged the government for urgent relief measures as the industry is grappling with severe LPG and PNG shortages triggered by the escalating West Asia crisis. The ALEMA has urged the government to implement urgent relief measures, including interest rate cuts and loan moratoriums. ALEMA, in a recent letter to the government, said the conflict in West Asia has severely disrupted supplies of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) and piped natural gas (PNG), critical fuels for melting, heating and ageing processes in aluminium extrusion manufacturing. "Many extrusion units have been compelled to shut down or reduce production by 30-70 per cent due to acute shortages and supply prioritisation by the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas," the association said. ALMA represents nearly 250 of India's 450 aluminium extrusion companies -- with 90 per cent being MSMEs. According to the association, without intervention, the ...

Supply contraints of LPG cylinders showed no signs of abating in parts of West Bengal on Monday, with gas distributors, transporters and restaurants reporting disruption in operations amid the crunch. Bijan Biswas, vice-president of the Indane LPG Distributors' Association in Bengal, said the overall situation has not improved significantly. He, however, said panic booking of cylinders is not the primary issue now, with the servers largely functioning normally. "The queues of people are mainly for completing eKYC formalities rather than booking cylinders. Once a bill is generated, delivery is taking about five to seven days," Biswas said. He also claimed that the government has reduced the allocation of cylinders by 30 per cent from March, pushing the delivery cycle between two cylinders to a minimum of 25 days. Biswas said there have been discussions on supplying smaller LPG cylinders of 7 kg or 10 kg to help manage the crisis and ease supply pressure. "These low-volume cylinder
