Congress will conduct caste census in MP after winning: Mallikarjun Kharge

The Congress will conduct a caste census in Madhya Pradesh after winning the assembly polls in the state, said party president Mallikarjun Kharge on Tuesday. He was addressing a public rally in Sagar in MP's Bundelkhand region. Assembly polls are expected to be held in the BJP-ruled state at the end of the year. The BJP government has not implemented the Bundelkhand package sanctioned on the recommendation of senior Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, said Kharge. The Congress president criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of not doing anything for violence-hit Manipur. Referring to the laying of the foundation stone of a Rs 100 crore memorial-cum-temple of Sant Ravidas, a revered figure for Scheduled Castes, by PM Modi earlier this month, Kharge said they laid the foundation of Saint Ravidas temple in Sagar but demolished his in Delhi. He alleged that PM Modi remembered Saint Ravidas only during elections. As per the 2011 Census, the population of Dalits in MP was 1.

AAP will perform poorly in MP polls just as it did in Gujarat: Vijayvargiya

The Aam Aadmi Party will face a repeat of its Gujarat electoral performance in Madhya Pradesh, where assembly elections are due by the year-end, BJP national general secretary Kailash Vijayvargiya has claimed. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP, which now governs Delhi and Punjab, has declared that it would contest in all 230 constituencies across MP. In the run-up to the Gujarat assembly elections last year, the AAP ran a high-decibel campaign but could win only five seats in the 182-member House. The BJP won a record 156 seats. Kejriwal had made big promises (to voters) in Gujarat as well, but I think his party lost deposits on 90 per cent of the seats there. (For AAP) there will be a repetition of their Gujarat poll situation in Madhya Pradesh, Vijayvargiya told reporters late on Monday night. The BJP leader also hit out at Congress Rajya Sabha member Digvijaya Singh, who recently alleged that a conspiracy was being hatched to create communal riots in MP like Haryana's Nuh. Vijayvargi

230 BJP MLAs begin constituency visits to boost party prospects in MP polls

Two hundred and thirty Bharatiya Janata Party legislators from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra who arrived in Madhya Pradesh two days ago have fanned out in as many Assembly constituencies in the state to firm up the party's prospects for the year-end polls. They were given training on Saturday on what they have to do in the state during their week-long stay and have now begun sending their field reports to the party's central leadership in Delhi on a daily basis, a top BJP leader told PTI on Monday. Their job is to mingle with party workers and the public to understand the demands of the constituency and take stock of the ground situation, BJP insiders said. Shah releases MP govt's report card, says it removed BIMARU tag from state

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday released the Madhya Pradesh government's 'report card' from 2003-2023 and said the BJP government in these years successfully removed the BIMARU category (laggard) tag from the state, which, according to him, was a legacy of the Congress regime. Shah released the government's 'report card' of 20 years at a function in the Madhya Pradesh capital Bhopal in the presence of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, MP BJP president VD Sharma and state Home Minister Narottam Mishra. The assembly elections in MP are due this year-end. The BIMARU acronym has often been used to refer to Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, to imply that these states lagged in terms of economic growth, health care, education, and other indices. "Madhya Pradesh came into existence in 1956 and since then, except for five-six years, Congress ruled the state till 2003, but the state remained BIMARU during their regime, Shah said. However, the BJP government ha
