Indore on Sunday set a new Guinness World Record in the category of "the most trees planted by a team in 24 hours" by planting more than 11 lakh saplings. The authorities in Madhya Pradesh's Jabalpur district have directed ten private schools to refund about Rs 65 crore charged extra as tuition fees from more than 81,000 students over seven academic sessions, an official said on Thursday. The schools had hiked tuition fees in violation of the law, said Jabalpur District Education Officer (DEO) Ghanshyam Soni. The district-level committee set up under the Madhya Pradesh Niji Vidyalaya (Fees Tatha Sambandhit Vishayon Ka Viniyaman) Adhiniyam, 2017, examined the accounts of these schools and found them to be charging extra fees from students, he said. The authorities have junked the illegal increase in fees by these schools and the collection of Rs 64.58 crore from 81,117 students between 2018-19 and 2024-25, he said. Soni told PTI that he issued notices to the schools on Tuesday directing them to refund the illegally collected fees. Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has said that efforts are being made to take the state's annual budget to Rs 7 lakh crore in the next five years. The state government on July 3 presented its budget for FY 2024-25 with an outlay of Rs 3.65 lakh crore, marking substantial allocations for infrastructure development and initiatives for women and tribals. This time, the state budget is 16 per cent more than last year's budget and is development-oriented, Yadav said at a function of the Central India Chamber of Commerce in Ujjain on Saturday night. Two children have died while 12 have fallen ill at a shelter home in Madhya Pradesh's Indore in the last two days, an official said on Tuesday. Karan (12) and Akash (7), both inmates of Bal Ashram of Shri Yugpurush Dham in the Malharganj police station area, died on Monday and Tuesday, respectively, Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADCP) Alok Kumar Sharma said. The official said the exact cause of these deaths will be ascertained after the post-mortem reports arrive. The ashram houses more than 200 children, including orphans and those suffering from mental ailments, he said. Twelve children from the facility have been admitted to the government-run Maharaja Yeshwantrao Hospital (MYH) with complaints of vomiting and diarrhoea, the hospital's superintendent, Dr Ashok Yadav, said. Madhya Pradesh cabinet on Tuesday decided that state ministers will have to pay their Income Tax, instead of the state government bearing such burden. Chief Minister Mohan Yadav in a statement said the cabinet has taken a decision to strike off the 1972 rule, under which the state government was paying the Income Tax on the salaries and perks of ministers. The cabinet decided that all ministers will pay the Income Tax on their salaries and allowances, Yadav said. State Urban Administration Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya said during the cabinet meeting, the chief minister gave a suggestion that the ministers themselves pay their Income Tax. The suggestion was accepted and hence the decision was taken in this regard, he said.
The Indore police have registered a case against an unidentified person for allegedly trying to sell online a fake question paper of the Madhya Pradesh state service exam by claiming the paper had been leaked, an official said on Monday. After a complaint by a vigilance officer of the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC), the case was registered on Sunday night under relevant provisions of the Indian Penal Code and the Information Technology, the official from Sanyogitaganj police station said. A candidate of the state service examination said rumours of the paper leak started due to an account created on social media platform 'Telegram' where it was claimed that question papers of the preliminary round of the exam conducted by the MPPSC were available for Rs 2,500 each.
