At least 26 major dark spots where maximum number of road accidents have occurred in Madhya Pradesh will be removed in a project worth Rs 50 crore, state Minister Gopal Bhargava said on Friday. Talking to reporters, the public works department minister said 26 major black spots have been identified for causing accidents in the state. "Using engineering and correctional methods, these spots will be cleared within a year at a cost of Rs 50 crore," he said. At least 1.5 lakh people are killed in road accidents in the country every year, and 10 per cent of these fatalities are reported from Madhya Pradesh, Bhargava said. Seven people fell sick after chlorine gas leaked from a cylinder at a water filtration plant in Bhopal, bringing back grim memories of the 1984 gas tragedy in the Madhya Pradesh capital. A 900 kg chlorine cylinder leaked on Wednesday at the water treatment plant of the Bhopal Municipal Corporation at the Idgah Hills, Shahjanabad area's Assistant Commissioner of Police Umesh Mishra told PTI on Thursday. Seven people living in slums near the plant complained of some health issues. They were shifted to hospital, he said. Local residents said after the gas leak, some people complained of breathing difficulties, coughing and vomiting due to the foul smell. Mishra said after the gas leak was noticed, the cylinder was thrown in water at the filtration plant. The snag at the plant has been fixed, he said. The Rewa district administration has formed a committee of experts to conduct a probe into the cause of a bus accident that claimed 15 lives and injured 40 people here and to make recommendations to avoid such incidents in future, officials said on Sunday. Out of the injured people, 32 have so far left for their homes in UP, a police official said. Fifteen persons were killed and 40 others injured after an Uttar Pradesh-bound private bus, mostly carrying labourers going home for Diwali, rammed into a trailer-truck from behind in Rewa district of Madhya Pradesh, officials said on Saturday. The accident occurred around 11.30 pm on Friday near Teonthar town, when the bus was going to Gorakhpur from Hyderabad, they said. The bus, a sleeper coach, was negotiating a mountain road in Sohagi ghati, about 60 km from the district headquarters, when it rammed into the trailer-truck from behind on national highway (NH)-30, Rewa Superintendent of Police (SP) Navneet Bhasin said. The trailer-truck suddenly applied brakes after it hit another vehicle ahead of it, due to which the bus crashed into the truck, he said. "Fifteen people were killed and 40 others injured in the accident. The victims were mostly labourers going home to Uttar Pradesh for Diwali. The bus also belonged to that state," he said. Union Home Minister Amit Shah will be on a day-long visit to Madhya Pradesh on Sunday during which he will launch the state government's ambitious project to impart medical education in Hindi.
