Prayers will be held at temples in all villages and cities of Madhya Pradesh coinciding with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's programme to inaugurate the first phase of the 'Shri Mahakal Lok' corridor in Ujjain on Tuesday evening. A state government release said locals will gather in one temple of each village and offer prayers. Similar programmes will also be organised at big temples in every ward of the urban areas along with the grand event in Ujjain. The programme will be telecast live on LED screens at these places, it said. More than 86 per cent cattle affected by the lumpy skin disease in Madhya Pradesh have recovered from the infection and no death has been reported in the state in the last 10 days, a senior veterinary official said on Friday. At least 291 cattle have succumbed to the disease in the state since August, but no casualty was reported in the last 10 days, the official said, adding that no new case was recorded in the last one week. "A total of 17,553 cattle were affected by the lumpy skin virus and of them, 15,073, which is 86 per cent, have recovered from the disease," said R K Mehiya, director of the veterinary and dairy department. As many as 2,480 cattle are currently being treated for the infection in the state, he said. Since the viral outbreak in July, laboratories had confirmed the presence of lumpy virus in 14 out of the total 52 districts in the state, the official said. The Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed Congress leader K K Mishra, the complainant in a case of an alleged pension scam at Indore Municipal Corporation, to file a fresh application for getting the prosecution sanction against then mayor Kaliash Vijayvargiya and others. A high court bench of Justice Subodh Abhyankar, in its order passed on September 23, also directed the state chief secretary to pass a reasoned and speaking order in the matter within three months. A special court here had last month closed the 2005 case of alleged pension scam at the Indore Municipal Corporation (IMC) as the MP government did not give sanction to prosecute BJP general secretary Vijayvargiya and others for 17 years. Complainant Mishra, who is chairman of the MP Congress's media department, had moved the HC against the delay in the grant of sanction. A 15-year-old student was killed and eight others injured after a bus ferrying them to a private school overturned in Madhya Pradesh's Sagar district on Tuesday morning, officials said. The bus, carrying nearly 40 students, met with the accident around 8 am near Chandrakar village on Rahatgarh-Khurai road, Superintendent of Police Tarun Nayak said. The bus went out of control and overturned, he said. A student of Class 9 was killed in the accident, the official said. District Collector Deepak Arya said eight students were injured and they were undergoing treatment in different hospitals. A case has been registered against the bus owner and the driver, the police official said.

State Election Commission (SEC) secretary Rakesh Singh on Monday said 3,397 candidates are in the fray for the elections to 46 urban bodies, including 17 municipal councils and 29 Nagar Parishads. Twenty five corporators have been elected unopposed in these urban bodies, while elections will be held for 814 posts of corporators, he said. The 46 urban bodies include six newly-constituted Nagar Parishads. A total of 8.42 lakh voters are eligible to exercise their franchise.
The state-run Madhya Pradesh Power Transmission Company Limited (MPPTCL) is going to deploy drones to monitor 10,000 high voltage towers in the state beginning October 1, a senior company official said on Monday. "This is for the first time in the country that drones are going to be used to check tall towers for smooth power supply, MPPTCL Managing Director Sunil Tiwari claimed while talking to PTI. He said drones will take videos and close range pictures of the towers. Currently, the inspection of towers is being done manually. Employees climb the towers to check the equipment and this process is very time consuming and laborious. Now, drones would do this work, he said. The benefit of using the drone technology is that we can take photographs and video of the equipment installed on the towers closely from all sides, the official said.
