The market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms hit a record peak of Rs 449.88 lakh crore on Friday despite equity benchmark Sensex slipping marginally in a volatile trade. The 30-share BSE Sensex dropped 53.07 points or 0.07 per cent to settle at 79,996.60, indicating market indecisiveness. The market capitalisation (mcap) of BSE-listed firms hit a record peak of Rs 4,49,88,985.87 crore (5.39 trillion) on Friday. "The domestic market traded with a mixed bias, with the heavy-weight banking sector acting as a laggard. "While Midcap and Small Cap outperformed and the respective BSE indices hit an all-time high. Globally, investors now await the US non-farm payroll data to be released later today to gauge the trajectory of the US Fed's potential rate cuts," Vinod Nair, Head of Research, Geojit Financial Services, said. The market capitalisation of BSE-listed firms hit another record high of Rs 434.88 lakh crore on Friday as the BSE benchmark scaled new closing peak, rallying for the third day running. Rising for the third straight session, the 30-share BSE Sensex climbed 181.87 points, or 0.24 per cent, to settle at a new closing peak of 76,992.77. The combined market capitalisation of the Aditya Birla Group firms has crossed the USD 100 billion mark (Rs 8,51,460.25 crore) on Friday. The group firms -- UltraTech Cement, Grasim, Hindalco, Aditya Birla Capital, Aditya Birla Sun Life AMC, Vodafone Idea, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail, TCNS Clothing, Aditya Birla Money, Century Textiles, Century Enka and Pilani Investment -- have a combined market valuation of Rs 8,51,460.25 crore on the BSE. "The group's market cap growth has beaten the benchmark indices Sensex and Nifty, year-to-date, as well as on a one-year, three-year, and five-year time frame," a statement from the group said. The market capitalisation of listed companies on the NSE surpassed USD 5 trillion (Rs 416.57 trillion) on Thursday on a day when the Nifty 50 index touched an all-time high of 22,993.60.
