MCD mulls setting up shelters for stray dogs, 75% of canines sterilised

The MCD is considering to set up stray dog shelters amid an increase in dog bite incidents here, officials said on Wednesday and noted that 75 per cent of the canines have been immunised against rabies and sterilised. A proposal in this regard is in the nascent stage but several meetings are underway. The aim is to ensure 100 per cent sterilisation of stray dogs in the city, the official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) asserted. After being sterilised and immunised against rabies, the canines are released in the same area from where they had been picked up, the official said. "There has been an increase in dog bite incidents in the national capital in the past six months. People are very upset with the menace of dogs. We are looking into preparing a policy in this regard. Delhi mayoral poll today to witness direct fight between AAP, BJP

The mayoral election in Delhi on Wednesday will be a direct contest between incumbent Shelly Oberoi from AAP and BJP leader Shikha Rai. The polling will be held at the Civic Centre the headquarters of the MCD. The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) is the ruling party in the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). Oberoi was elected Delhi mayor on February 22 in the fourth attempt since the earlier elections were stalled amid a ruckus over voting rights being given to nominated members. She had defeated BJP's Rekha Gupta by a margin of 34 votes by polling 150 votes. Gupta got 116 of the total 266 votes polled. The MCD is working on a plan to send its school teachers outside Delhi for training, said Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Monday. MCD implements MVC recommendations, no change in existing Unit Area Value

The recommendations of the fifth Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC-V) have been implemented with effect from April 1 this year, with due approval of the civic authorities, officials said. No change in the existing Unit Area Value has been made as recommended by the MVC-I, they said. The MVC-V has tried to address all grievances relating to assessment of properties and has taken many progressive steps by rationalising the multiplicative factors, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi said in a statement. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has approved the name of senior AAP councillor Mukesh Goyal as presiding officer for the election of the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD). MCD begins work to revive three water bodies in east Delhi with landscaping

The MCD has taken up the work to revive three small water bodies in east Delhi with large-scale landscaping and rejuvenation, officials said on Thursday. The three water bodies each cover an area of not more than an acre. There are around 20 water bodies in the national capital that will be restored under the first phase of the Mission Amrit Sarovar, they said. "The Centre sanctioned certain funds for the restoration of water bodies in Delhi. We have begun the work to revive three water bodies in east Delhi. Slowly, we will begin the work to revive all other water bodies in the national capital," an official said. MCD begins survey to identify 'dangerous' buildings for demolition, repair

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi has begun an exercise to identify "dangerous" buildings in the city to initiate demolition or repair work of such infrastructure to prevent any "mishap" during monsoon season, an official said on Tuesday. The civic body has asked its field staff to initiate the yearly survey of buildings or houses in their areas, he said. In this regard, a circular 'Pre Moonson Measures', had also been issued on April 6. MCD takes primary school admissions online, discusses skills improvement

QR codes have been pasted on the gates of all the MCD's primary schools to enable parents to scan those and fill the admission form online, a move aimed at simplifying the process, officials said on Monday. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi's (MCD) Education department met at the Kedarnath Sahni Auditorium to discuss ways to improve the foundational literacy and numeracy (FLN) skills of primary-level students, the MCD said in a statement. Monday's meeting, attended by more than 1,500 school principals, mentor teachers, and zonal officials from the department's 12 zones, discussed ways to achieve the milestones in the 2023-24 academic year. MCD to increase green waste management centres to 52 in Delhi: Official

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to increase the number of green waste management centres to 52 across the capital to achieve 100 per cent composting of organic waste in coming years, an official said. This move would help in terminating the need to buy compost while helping in checking air pollution and encouraging the scientific disposal of green waste, an MCD official told PTI. Green waste is any organic waste that can be composted like grasses, leaves, small branches and pruning. According to the official, at present, 38 green waste management centres are functional across Delhi with average monthly production of 70 MT compost. Amid a rise in COVID-19 cases, Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Wednesday said all civic-run hospitals are "fully prepared" to deal with the coronavirus situation and appealed to people not to panic. As the standing committee of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi is yet to be elected, services of three 'third parties' have been discontinued by the civic body from April 1 onwards, and they have been directed to withdraw data entry operators and other contractual workers engaged through them, official sources said on Monday. Delhi BJP on Friday alleged that files on the extension of contractual civic workers have been "withheld", following which they will not be able to work from April 1 onwards. MCD to renovate 1,000 big parks in six months by installing green patching

The civic body plans to renovate a thousand big parks here in the next six months by installing green patching and refurbishing gym facilities wherever required, an official said on Friday.
