Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Friday held a high-level meeting on the city's monsoon preparedness and asked officials to identify areas where there is frequent waterlogging during the rainy season. To ensure effective implementation of proposed plans, regular meetings will be organised on this subject twice a month, she said. With the aim of ensuring safety and convenience of citizens during heavy rainfall, the meeting focused on addressing the issue of waterlogging in several areas of the city, her office said in a statement. During the meeting, Oberoi emphasised on the importance of identifying areas prone to frequent waterlogging. Places such as Rani Khera, Bakkarwala, Najafgarh, Narela, and Mehrauli were highlighted as being particularly susceptible to water accumulation, it said. Mayor Shelly Oberoi Friday asserted no prejudice will be caused if re-polling is held for choosing the six members of the MCD standing committee, as the Delhi High Court reserved its verdict on BJP councillors' challenge to the re-election. Plan to give smartwatches to sanitation workers for monitoring: Delhi mayor

Delhi Mayor Shelly Oberoi on Wednesday said the municipal corporation is planning to provide smartwatches to sanitation workers for monitoring them at work on a daily basis. She said this while interacting with reporters during an inspection of a waste-to-energy plant at Tughlakabad. "We are working on a plan to provide smartwatches to sanitation workers and very soon we will execute it. Through these watches, we can track and monitor them at work on a daily basis," the mayor said. Delhi govt working on food truck policy, will put for public feedback soon

The Delhi Government is working on its food truck policy which will be finalised within the next couple of months and put up for public feedback, officials said. According to officials, meetings have been planned with different stakeholders to discuss the various aspects of the policy. The stakeholders include the MCD, DMRC, traffic police and the Transport Department, they said. "We have identified metro stations and parking sites as hubs for setting up food trucks. But it will have to be seen under which category these trucks can be placed by the Transport department and also the rules governing their plying in Delhi, the official said. We will also need the Delhi Metro and the MCD to be on board since we plan to station these food trucks at metro stations and parking sites," he said. L-G should probe corruption in MCD when it was under BJP: Saurabh Bharadwaj

Delhi Urban Development Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj on Tuesday demanded that the lieutenant governor conduct a high-level inquiry into alleged corruption in the MCD while it was under the BJP's control. The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) earned a revenue of about Rs 8,900 crore in the financial year 2022-23, a rise of more than 22 per cent compared to the earnings in the year before, according to officials. The three erstwhile civic bodies of Delhi were unified into the MCD in May 2022. The "perennially cash-strapped" MCD has registered record revenue receipts in 2022-23, witnessing a jump of 22.77 per cent over the year (FY 2021-22) prior to it, when the figure was Rs 7,249.25 crore, a senior official of the Raj Niwas said. Action against illegal dairies within 48 hrs of complaint: Delhi HC to MDC

The Delhi High Court has directed coordination committees of the MCD and police to take action against unauthorised dairies operating in the national capital within 48 hours of receiving complaints in the matter. The April 25 order was passed on two contempt pleas that claimed unauthorized dairies were operating in Kotla Mubarakpur and Panchsheel Enclave in contravention to a 2019 judicial order directing the authorities, including the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) and the city police, to take action against illegal dairies. The petitioners, represented by senior advocate Vivek Sibal, said there is a vicious cycle where the MCD takes steps to rescue cattle in illegal dairies. MCD lacks comprehensive data on dairy farms, cowsheds, says NGT panel

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi "lacks comprehensive data" on dairy farms and 'gaushalas' in areas under its jurisdiction, an NGT panel said asking the civic authorities to carry out a complete inventory of the dairy farms by June 30. The solid-waste monitoring committee of the National Green Tribunal (NGT), which recently held a review meeting, asked the MCD to submit an action plan, including zone-wise details of dairy waste generated in their areas by July 31. In February, the NGT constituted the committee with Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena as its head. The panel submitted its report on Monday. In its report, the panel said that the NDMC and Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB) informed that there is no dairy functioning in their jurisdictional area. MCD to procure 60k benches for schools, jail inmates to make 25k of them

The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is planning to procure around 60,000 dual desks for its schools out of which 25,000 could be made by Central Tihar Jail inmates with orders likely to be placed soon, officials said on Thursday. There has been a shortage of desks in municipal schools and the issue was also raised by the Delhi Commission for the Protection of Child Rights (DCPCR) recently, an MCD official said. He said the procurement are beng made so that students are not forced to sit on floors. An official said around nine lakh students study in MCD schools and there is a shortage of 74,142 dual desks (27,056 of small size and 47,086 big size) currently. MCD mulls setting up shelters for stray dogs, 75% of canines sterilised

The MCD is considering to set up stray dog shelters amid an increase in dog bite incidents here, officials said on Wednesday and noted that 75 per cent of the canines have been immunised against rabies and sterilised. A proposal in this regard is in the nascent stage but several meetings are underway. The aim is to ensure 100 per cent sterilisation of stray dogs in the city, the official of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) asserted. After being sterilised and immunised against rabies, the canines are released in the same area from where they had been picked up, the official said. "There has been an increase in dog bite incidents in the national capital in the past six months. People are very upset with the menace of dogs. We are looking into preparing a policy in this regard. The recommendations of the fifth Municipal Valuation Committee (MVC-V) have been implemented with effect from April 1 this year, with due approval of the civic authorities, officials said.
