The Election Commission on Thursday made it clear that reports about it giving an approval to extend Madhya Pradesh Chief Secretary Iqbal Singh Bains' term by a month were false. Bains' term as the state chief secretary is ending on November 30. As the model code of conduct for the state assembly elections, held in a single phase on November 17, is still in force, any decision regarding Bains' term extension will have to be approved by the Election Commission. Taking to X, the office of the Madhya Pradesh Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Anupam Rajan said, "A fake news is being shared on social media that Election Commission has given approval to the extension of tenure of Chief Secretary of Madhya Pradesh, who is about to superannuate. A court here on Wednesday granted bail to Umar Ansari, the son of gangster-politician Mukhtar Ansari, in three cases of model code of conduct violation during assembly polls in 2022. "We already secured anticipatory bail from the high court in these cases almost two months ago. We presented the HC bail order before the MP-MLA court of judge Shweta Chaudhary after which the court granted bail," said Umar Ansari's advocate Daroga Singh. Umar Ansari got bail after submitting bonds of total Rs 90,000 in these cases. Singh said that three cases of violating the model code of conduct were lodged against Umar Ansari for making hate speech, blocking roads and taking out a political rally without permission. According to police, Umar Ansari was absconding in these cases and the local court had also issued a non-bailable warrant against him. Umar Ansari is younger to Abbas Ansari, Mukhtar Ansari's other son who is also in jail in various cases. Abbas Ansari won from Mau Sadar seat in 2022 .

The Rajasthan Police has seized Rs 200-crore worth election "freebies" including cash, liquor, narcotics and jewellery since the Model Code of Conduct came into force in the state on October 9, a top official said on Saturday. Leading a team of 12 officers, Inspector General of Police Vikas Kumar has created a 'STORM CLUB' to keep a strict vigil across the state to ensure voters are not illegally influenced by the candidates during the campaign for November 25 polls. Rajasthan BJP leader Arun Chaturvedi on Thursday accused Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot of using official staff for political meetings in violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The code came into effect after the Election Commission announced the date for assembly elections in Rajasthan. The state will go to the polls on November 25. Chaturvedi, a former BJP chief in Rajasthan, pointed to Gehlot's recent travel to Delhi for a meeting with Sonia Gandhi. During this trip, Gehlot allegedly took his secretary in a government vehicle that, Chaturvedi said, was a direct violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The BJP leader also claimed that Gehlot has been using official staff for political meetings. More than 500 complaints were received from across Rajasthan on the C-Vigil app in just 48 hours of the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct in the state, officials said on Wednesday. District Election Officers, or Returning Officers, found 134 complaints correct and resolved them within the stipulated time. Chief Electoral Officer Praveen Gupta said 115 complaints were rejected by the Returning Officers, while six complaints are still pending. The remaining 242 complaints were rejected by the District Control Room at its level, he said. Gupta said that the maximum number of complaints (79) were received from Jaipur district. He said that the C-Vigil app allows resolution of a complaint received on it within 100 minutes. The CEO said that till now lack of documentary evidence in the form of photographs or videos was a hindrance in verification of the complaint, but the app is working to bridge all these gaps.
Elections will be held in Mizoram on November 7, Chhattisgarh on November 7 and November 17, Madhya Pradesh on November 17, Rajasthan on November 23 and Telangana on November 30

More than 180 people including a former Samajwadi Party MLA were booked for flouting the election Model Code of Conduct, prohibitory orders and Covid norms after they staged a dharna at a police station following the detention of three persons for allegedly distributing money among voters, officials said on Monday. The FIR against Mukesh Srivastava and others was lodged on Sunday at the Payagpur police station, they said. Station House Officer Rajkumar Pandey said it all started after three persons were detained and brought to the police station on Saturday over allegations of distributing money among voters. After the detention, Srivastava and others reached the police station and sat on a dharna, causing a traffic jam, he said.
