Prakhhyat Group on Monday said it has partnered with a fund managed by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing to develop a warehousing project at Bhiwandi near Mumbai. The company did not disclose the amount of investment by Morgan Stanley Real Estate Investing (MSREI) but sources said it is around Rs 300 crore. Prakhyat Group will develop a 0.7 million square feet Grade A warehousing space at its K Square Logistics Park in Bhiwandi, the company said in a statement. This marks MSREI's entry in the Bhiwandi sub-market of Mumbai. With this, MSREI has invested in over 5.6 million sq ft of logistics assets across the country, it added. Maharashtra Minister Ravindra Chavan on Sunday said he has ordered a special audit of the work done on the Mumbai-Goa Highway in the last 12 years and reason for the delay in the project. The PWD minister's announcement has come a day after he got stuck in traffic for more than two hours on the highway while inspecting the ongoing repair work on the route. The Navi Mumbai traffic police has banned the movement of heavy vehicles on Mumbai-Goa highway from Sunday till the end of the Ganesh festival to be held next month. Talking to reporters after an event in Dombivili town, Chavan said Rs 4,500 crore have been disbursed for the project, but under some pretext the work has been delayed. A special audit will be conducted on the work done on the project over the last 12 years, he said. Three persons died in a fire that broke out on Sunday afternoon in a hotel in Santacruz East in Mumbai that civic officials said had been issued a notice for failure to adhere to fire safety norms and had even been taken to court over it. Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde has claimed Mumbai roads will be free of potholes in the next two to two-and-a-half years. Mumbai on Friday reported 17 COVID-19 cases, the fourth consecutive day when the addition to the tally has been more than 10, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. It took the tally in the metropolis to 11,64,261, while the death toll remained unchanged at 19,776, he said. On Wednesday, the city had reported 12 cases, the civic official added. The recovery count increased by nine in the last 24 hours to touch 11,44,404, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 81, he said. The recovery rate is 98.3 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases between August 18 and 24 was 0.0008 per cent, as per civic data. So far, 1,89,22,586 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Mumbai, including 243 in the last 24 hours. The caseload doubling time is 83,327 days, as per official data.

Two persons were killed and six others injured when the slab of a 20-year-old residential building collapsed in Nerul area of Navi Mumbai, fire brigade officials said on Thursday. The third floor ceiling slab of the four-storey Tulsi Bhavan building located at Shirsole in Nerul collapsed at around 8.50 pm on Wednesday, they said. The slab came crashing down on the second and first floors, killing a labourer and another person, divisional fire officer Purushottam Jadhav said. The building has four wings and the slab collapsed in its 'B' wing, he said. Some civil work was underway on the third floor when the slab collapsed, said another fire official. The building has a tailoring shop on the ground floor and the shopkeeper closed the outlet and left the place a few minutes before the incident, he said. The Pune police control room received a phone call, originating from the US, in the wee hours of Tuesday in which the person on the other side informed about presence of a "suspected terrorist" in Mumbai, said an official. The call was received at around 1 am and the Pune police immediately contacted their counterparts in Mumbai and informed about it. "The police control room received a call in which the caller informed us about a particular person in Mumbai, asked us to check on him, and claimed that person is a suspected terrorist. We immediately informed the Mumbai police about the call and they are looking into it," said the official. He said the call originated from the US. It appears the call was fishy as locations of both the caller and the person about whom he gave information were later traced to America, said another police officer.
Overriding the Biden administration's appeal, a US court has ordered a stay on the extradition of Pakistani-origin Canadian businessman Tahawwur Rana, to India where he is facing a trial for his involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks. Rana, 62, has appealed before the Ninth Circuit Court against the order by a US District Court in the Central District of California that denied the writ of habeas corpus. District Judge Dale S. Fischer of the US District Court in Central California in his latest order said that Rana's ex parte application seeking a stay on his extradition is granted. Adani Electricity Mumbai is investing over Rs 2,000 crore to build two new transmissions lines in the city to strengthen its network as it moves closer to go more green by sourcing as much as 60 per cent of the energy needed for the city from renewables by 2027, a senior company official said. The two new transmission lines comprise the 84 ckm Kharghar (in Navi Mumbai) Vikhroli line in the northeastern suburb of the megalopolis and the Thane-Aarey Colony line. The Vikhroli line will be ready by 2025. "We hope to begin the work on the project from this October.
