Problems with India can be resolved through open dialogue: Nepal PM Oli

Nepal's Prime Minister K.P. Sharma Oli said on Saturday that the problems between Nepal and India could be resolved through open dialogue and warmheartedness. "There exist few problems, not many, between Nepal and India, and they can be resolved, if we maintain warm heart and open dialogue," Oli said here at the launch of former administrator Surya Nath Upadhyay's book titled 'International Watercourses Law: A Perspective on Nepal-India Cooperation'. "India is our friendly neighbour and Nepal and India have rich cultures so we should have an open dialogue. The blame cannot be merely imposed on the geopolitical situation for our inability to speak openly. We should not be involved in any game meant for gaining and sustaining power," Oli said. "Earlier, foreign relations were maintained and dominated by the country's strengths. After the IInd World War, a country should present its national interests reasonably and justifiably in line with international treaties and agreements." "The

India presents different picture than 10 years ago, says VP Dhankhar

With foreign exchange reserves worth USD 680 billion, India has come a long a way since the time it had to pledge its gold to tide over a financial crisis, Vice-President Jagdeep Dhankhar said on Saturday. Dhankhar was speaking during the inauguration programme of Uttar Pradesh Sainik School in Gorakhpur. "Today's India presents a completely different picture than what was 10 years ago. There was a time when the same country, which was referred to as 'sone ki chidiya', had to pledge its gold in foreign banks. Back then, our foreign exchange was between USD 1 billion and USD 2 billion. Today, it is USD 680 billion. Look at the kind of progress we have made since," he said. India's foreign exchange reserves jumped by USD 2.299 billion to a new high of USD 683.987 billion for the week ended on August 30. The vice-president also showered praise on Prime Minister Narendra Modi for India's turnaround and said Uttar Pradesh under Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also played a crucial role i

Govt making efforts to recognise teachers using innovative methods: PM Modi

Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said efforts were being made to recognise bright teachers practising innovative methods as he took an apparent swipe at past governments, saying he would not talk about what used to happen earlier. In an interaction with teachers who were conferred National Teachers' Awards, he said they could prepare young students for 'Viksit Bharat'. The interaction took place on Friday while its video was shared on Saturday. Modi suggested that the teachers could involve the students in selecting the top 100 tourist destinations in the country by encouraging them to learn about different places they might visit as part of education tours. The teachers awarded were selected after a long process as their efforts can be useful in the new National Education Policy (NEP), Modi said while noting that there would be many others doing excellent work. He told the teachers to take their students to nearby universities and watch sporting events as the experience could fir

After LS poll results, ties between PM, RSS have nosedived: Congress

The Congress took a swipe at the ruling BJP on Friday over RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat's reported remarks that "people will decide whether we will become the god or not", claiming that after the Lok Sabha poll results, the relations between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the Sangh have "nosedived". The opposition party also claimed that with each passing week, the lifespan of this government is getting shortened. "After June 4, 2024, relations between the non-biological PM and RSS have nosedived -- and they continue to be in turbulence. At an event in Pune ... the RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat rebuked the PM for his claim to non biological origins, saying 'Whether we will become God or not, people will decide. We should not proclaim that we have become God'," Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh said in a post on X. With each passing week, the lifespan of this government is getting shortened, he claimed. Ramesh tagged a media report that quoted the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) chi

Apologise to all for statue collapse, note-ban, anti-farm laws: Rahul to PM

Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said Prime Minister Narendra Modi should apologise not only for the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue in Sindhudurg district, but also for demonetisation, anti-farmer bills and GST. Modi should say sorry to each and every citizen of Maharashtra for the insult caused to the legendary 17th century warrior king when the statue at Rajkot fort collapsed on August 26, he added. The Congress leader was speaking at a public meeting here after inaugurating a life-size statue of late party leader Patangrao Kadam. With the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government in Maharashtra coming under fire over the collapse of the Shivaji Maharaj statue, the prime minister during his subsequent visit to the state said he apologised to the iconic king, his "deity", and also the people whose sentiments were hurt. "I want to ask the prime minister what he is sorry for, is it because the contract to make the Shivaji statue was given to an RSS

Levelling more conflict of interest allegations against SEBI Chairperson Madhabi Buch, the Congress on Friday claimed that she received rental income from an entity affiliated with a company that the capital markets regulator was investigating for various cases, including that of insider trading. Congress general secretary in-charge communications Jairam Ramesh said the question really had to be asked of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and no one else on how much more evidence was needed to show the collapse of transparency and integrity, as far as the capital markets regulator was concerned. "By the NSE's data, there are now 10 crore Indians with unique PANs who have some form of investment in this market. Don't they deserve better? Why does he not move? What is he afraid of?" A local court in Maharashtra's Sindhudurg district on Thursday remanded sculptor-contractor Jaydeep Apte and structural consultant Chetan Patil, held over the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj's statue, in police custody till September 10. While Patil was arrested on August 30 from Kolhapur, Apte was taken into custody on Wednesday night from Kalyan in Thane district, nearly 10 days after an FIR was registered in connection with the incident.
