Delhi govt offers free coaching for JEE, NEET, others to over 2K students

The Delhi government is offering free professional coaching to 2,200 meritorious government school students for JEE, NEET, CLAT, CA and CUET under the Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malaviya Vidya Shakti Mission, Education Minister Ashish Sood announced on Monday. The mission aims to empower students' aspirations, ensure emotional well-being and build future-ready schools across the capital, an official statement said. This scheme, which was announced in the budget, has a budget allocation of Rs 21 crore. It reserves 50 seats per course for female students in JEE, NEET, CLAT, and CA Foundation, while CUET-UG will offer 1,000 seats, with 150 reserved for girls. Coaching will be provided through empanelled institutions, including Aakash Institute, Narayana Academy, KD Campus and Ravindra Institute, it said. Centre analysing data to review difficulty level of exams like JEE, NEET

The Centre is mulling a review of the difficulty level of entrance exams like JEE and NEET to ensure it is in sync with the class 12 curriculum difficulty level and that students do not have to depend on coaching, according to sources. The review will be conducted on the basis of the feedback from an expert panel set up to examine issues related to coaching. "The panel is analysing data to study if the difficulty level of exams is in sync with the difficulty level of class 12 curriculum, which is the basis of these exams. Some parents and faculty members of coaching institutions feel that there is a mismatch between the two, which ultimately increases dependance on coaching," a source said. "Based on the panel's feedback, it will be considered to review the difficulty level of these entrance exams," the source added. The Supreme Court on Monday fixed August 3 for hearing pleas raising concerns over the transparency of the NEET-PG examination process, particularly with regard to the release of answer keys and evaluation protocols. The Delhi government on Thursday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with BIG Institute to offer free crash courses to students for CUET and NEET preparation after Class 12. The agreement, signed between the Delhi Directorate of Education and BIG Institute, will provide free online coaching for NEET and CUET to 1.63 lakh government school students. The signing took place in the presence of Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Education Minister Ashish Sood. Sood said that the programme will begin on April 1 and will include 180 hours of coaching over 30 days, with six hours of classes per day. Chief Minister Gupta said the initiative aims to help government school students secure admissions in medical and engineering colleges. "With this, more and more students from Delhi government schools will get the opportunity to enrol in good colleges and successfully clear entrance exams for medical and engineering programmes," she said.

CBSE inspects 29 schools for 'dummy' students, plans legal action

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducted a series of surprise inspections at 29 schools in Delhi, Bengaluru, Varanasi, Bihar, Gujarat and Chhattisgarh to check enrolment of 'dummy' students, officials said on Thursday. According to CBSE Secretary Himanshu Gupta, a total of 29 teams, comprising a CBSE officer and a principal from an affiliated school, conducted the inspections. "Majority of the inspected schools were found to have violated the Board's Affiliation Bye-Laws by enrolling students beyond their actual attendance records, effectively creating 'non-attending' enrolments. Additionally, schools were found to be flouting infrastructural norms of the board," Gupta said. "CBSE has taken these violations seriously and is in the process of issuing show-cause notices to the schools found in breach of regulations. The Education and Health Ministry are deliberating on whether to conduct medical entrance exam NEET-UG in pen and paper mode or online mode and a decision in this regard is expected soon, Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan said on Tuesday.
