Neet re-exam: Security tightened at 92 Kota centres; candidate count falls

Authorities have finalised elaborate security and administrative arrangements at 92 centres across Kota for the NEET UG re-examination to be held on June 21, officials said on Saturday. A total of 32,715 candidates have been issued admit cards for the examination, scheduled from 2 to 5.15 pm, a press release from the Kota public relations office said. The number of candidates in Kota has declined from 38,614 in the exam previously held on May 3. Experts attributed the drop partly to students opting for examination centres closer to their hometowns this time. The re-examination is taking place nearly seven weeks after the original test was cancelled following allegations of a paper leak that triggered nationwide outrage, political sparring and legal challenges. A coordination workshop was held here at the auditorium on Friday to review preparations for the national-level medical entrance examination. Divisional Commissioner Anil Kumar Agarwal, Kota Range Inspector General Harendra

Neet UG re-exam: Delhi HC rejects Telegram's plea against temporary ban

The Delhi High Court on Friday upheld the Centre's move to temporarily restrict access to the Telegram messaging app ahead of the June 21 NEET-UG re-exam, holding the order was "not disproportionate". While pronouncing the judgement, a vacation bench of Justice Tejas Karia said the Centre's order was "least restrictive" and the government was empowered to direct blocking of access to Telegram. A detailed order is awaited. Telegram's counsel had questioned the legality of the government order blocking the platform. He had said that over 150 million users had been affected by the Centre's action. The National Testing Agency (NTA) had on May 12 cancelled the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (Undergraduate), or NEET-UG, held on May 3 for medical admissions amid allegations of paper leak. The CBI is investigating the matter and a re-test is scheduled on June 21. The Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY), acting on recommendations of the NTA, had issued a ...

NMC asks medical colleges to not give leave to students during Neet re-exam

The National Medical Commission has directed all medical colleges and institutions under its purview not to grant leave to students on June 20 and 21, except in exceptional circumstances, to support the fair conduct of the NEET-UG re-exam on Sunday. The move comes in the backdrop of some instances when students of medical colleges were found to be involved in activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process, the Commission said in a notice issued on Thursday. The instruction has been issued in compliance with directions received from the Department of Higher Education under the Ministry of Education regarding the conduct of the medical entrance examination, it said. The Commission also asked medical colleges to remain vigilant and sensitise students against involvement in any activities that could compromise the sanctity and integrity of the examination process. "In the past, instances have come to notice where some students of medical colleges

Neet re-exam: NTA issues advisory, sends reminders via SMS, email, WhatsApp

The National Testing Agency (NTA) on Friday said that it is sending reminder SMS messages, emails, and WhatsApp notifications to candidates, urging them to download their admit cards for the NEET-UG 2026 re-examination scheduled for June 21, while cautioning students against fraudulent messages and fake communications. The NEET-UG exam for admissions into medical courses was originally held on May 3 this year, but was cancelled on May 12 due to allegations of a paper leak. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) is currently investigating this issue. "NTA is sending reminder SMS and emails to candidates to download their admit cards for the re-examination on Sunday, 21 June 2026," the agency said in a public advisory on X. The agency informed that legitimate SMS messages would be sent from the official sender ID "NICPEP," and emails would originate from "no-reply.neet.nta@nic.in." It also reiterated that only the official website for this process is http://neet.nta.nic.in; ...

Heightened security for Neet retest may add to students' stress: Annamalai

The arrangements for a high-level, classified, military-grade security and AI face recognition for NEET retest on June 21 only add to the already ballooning exam pressure of candidates and would create a new set of problems, former BJP state chief K Annamalai said on Tuesday. Expressing concern over the kind of security to be enforced on the young minds for conducting the NEET retest, Annamalai said "while the government has taken measures to contain leaks, they have forgotten the additional burden they have imposed on a student before they take up an assessment, one that they have spent months preparing for, dissolving the entire purpose of our exam system and the NEP 2020's goal to reduce "exam stress". "Two-tier CRPF+CISF escort with IAF airlift. 4-layer CCTV with AI surveillance. Biometric & facial recognition before entry. Multiple layers of frisking. Multi-level oversight with direct monitoring from the prime minister's office. Yes, you read it right. But these are not ...

House panel looking into NEET, OSM issues seeks answers from NTA, CBSE

A Parliamentary panel has asked the National Testing Agency (NTA) to define what constitutes a "paper leak" in its definition and whether any paper leaks have occurred in exams it conducted since 2018, sources said. The panel's questionnaire follows NTA officials' appearance before it last week, where they contended that there was no paper leak from their system, claiming that some questions from a guess paper were in circulation, sources said. The Parliamentary Committee for Education, Women, Children, Youth and Sports, headed by Congress member Digvijaya Singh, is investigating the NEET paper leak issue and the CBSE on-screen marking system (OSM) row, having summoned top government officials including those from the NTA and CBSE. The committee has sought written answers from the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the NTA on the issues of OSM system and the NEET exam, respectively. The panel asked the NTA whether it conducted any inquiry into the allegations of ...
