NHAI to blacklist users misusing loose FASTags to reduce toll delays

State-owned NHAI on Friday said it has strengthened the process for reporting 'loose FASTag' for blacklisting users to ensure smooth tolling operations. In view of upcoming initiatives like the annual pass system and multi-lane free flow (MLFF) tolling, it is critical to address this issue to ensure FASTag authenticity and system reliability, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) said in a statement. "To ensure smooth tolling operations and strengthen reporting of 'loose FASTags', NHAI has further streamlined its policy for the Toll Collecting Agencies and Concessionaires to immediately report and blacklist 'loose FASTags', that are also commonly called tag-in-hand," it said. Govt cuts toll by up to 50% on national highways with bridges, tunnels

The government has reduced the toll rates up to 50 per cent for the sections of National Highways that have structures like tunnels, bridges, flyovers or elevated stretches, a move which will lower travelling cost for motorists. User charges at fee plazas on National Highways are collected as per NH Fee Rules, 2008. The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has made amendment to 2008 rules and notified a new method or formula for calculating toll charges. "The rate of fee for use of a section of national highway comprising of structure or structures shall be calculated by adding ten times the length of structure or structures to the length of the section of national highway excluding the length of structure or structures, or five times the total length of section of national highway, whichever is lesser," said the notification dated July 2, 2025. 'Structure' means an independent bridge, tunnel or flyover or elevated highway. To explain the new toll charges, the ministry has cited

NHAI raises concerns over MCD's advertising, parking on National Highways

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) raised objections to a string of issues with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), including outdoor advertising on highways and an illegal parking lot, officials said on Tuesday. In a recently held meeting, the central body's concerns were conveyed to the Delhi government, which has MCD's administrative control. "The MCD has been allotting space for advertisements and hoardings alongside national highways, which poses a safety risk to road users. The MCD may promptly remove all such advertisements," NHAI officials said during the meeting. In response, the MCD said, "Outdoor Advertising Policy 2017, approved by the Supreme Court, applies to all of Delhi. The MCD is ready for joint inspection with the NHAI if any issue arises." The MCD further argued that it is allocating space to the advertisers under the Delhi Municipal Act, 1957. NHAI plans to launch public InvIT to increase overall investor base

State-owned NHAI on Monday said it plans to launch a public Infrastructure Investment Trust (InvIT) to increase the overall investor base. Further, NHAI said public InvIT will also cater to retail investors, thereby providing access to infrastructure assets. NHAI had launched a private InvIT and monetised over 2,300 km of highways. An InvIT is a pooled investment vehicle that raises funds from investors by issuing units. Specifically, NHAI said it aims to offer three Toll-Operate-Transfer (ToT) bundles per quarter one small (Rs 2,000 crore), one medium (Rs 5,000 crore), and one large (Rs 9,000 crore) and to conduct one/two InvIT phases each year to cater to a broad spectrum of investors. "NHAI will also assess the market conditions in future and adjust the bundle size accordingly," it added. To attract high-quality institutional investors and investors with expertise in infrastructure management, NHAI said it will develop targeted outreach programmes across geographic locations
