Three foreigners staying in Greater Noida have been arrested allegedly for being involved in cyber frauds and were found to have in their possession a fake passport made in the name of filmstar Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, a senior police officer said on Friday. The police had lodged an FIR of fraud on the complaint of a retired Army colonel who was duped of Rs 1.81 crore. The Noida Authority on Wednesday said it has razed illegal constructions, including commercial set ups, on a government land worth Rs 10 crore that had come under encroachment. The land measuring 7,000 sq metre is located in Kakrala Khawaspur village and falls in the river floodplains, it said. "In accordance with the instructions of the Noida Authority Chief Executive Officer Ritu Maheshwari, illegal commercial (10 shops) and temporary encroachment on about 7,000 square metres of land in Khasra No. 0-734 were demolished," the Noida Authority said in a statement. The encroachment removal proceedings were carried out in the presence of officials of the land records department, the local work circle and the police, it added. The Supreme Court on Monday stayed the order of the National Green Tribunal imposing a fine of Rs 100 crore on NOIDA for failing to prevent untreated sewage from flowing into the Kondli irrigation canal. The top court also stayed the NGT order asking the Delhi Jal Board (DJB) to pay a fine of Rs 50 crore for release of untreated sewage in the Yamuna river in the national capital. "Issue notice. Returnable in eight weeks. Pending further orders, the direction of the National Green Tribunal asking the NOIDA and DJB to pay Rs 100 crore and Rs 50 crore respectively as fine will remain stayed, the bench said.

The National Green Tribunal has directed the authorities to seal all illegal commercial borewells in Noida. The tribunal has also directed the builders or project proponents to pay interim compensation -- at least 0.5% of their project cost. The petition alleged that the authorities concerned had failed to prevent illegal commercial extraction of groundwater, resulting in its depletion. A bench of Chairperson AK Goel said the unregulated extraction of groundwater was detrimental to the environment and violated directions of the Supreme Court. The bench, also comprising Justice Sudhir Agarwal and expert member A Senthil Vel, said regulation on groundwater extraction was necessary for conservation and to ensure adequate replenishment. Realty firm M3M India has bagged a 13-acre land parcel in Noida through e-auctions and plans to invest around Rs 2,400 crore to develop a mixed-use project, its director Pankaj Bansal said on Wednesday. M3M India, which has a major presence in Gurugram, will be foraying into Noida property market through this project. "We have secured a 52,000 square metre plot in Sector 94 through an e-auction conducted by the Noida Authority. We will be entering into the Noida market through this land acquisition," Bansal told PTI. The land has been bought at Rs 827.41 crore through auction, he said, adding that the total acquisition would reach Rs 1,200 crore including lease rent and registration charges. A fire broke out at a factory in Noida on Monday morning, prompting rescue and relief measures at the site, police said. No casualty was reported in the fire that erupted in the factory located in Phase 2 industrial area around 9 am, a police official said. "Multiple water tenders were rushed at the spot along with firefighters and efforts are being made to douse the blaze," the official said. The local police are also at the spot to assist in the relief measures, the official added. The cause of the fire and damage to the property were yet to be known.

Noida Police on Sunday banned use of drones by any individual or organisation till November 2 in view of President Droupadi Murmu and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's proposed visit to the city, an official statement said. "The programme of seventh edition of the India Water Week is proposed in Gautam Buddh Nagar on November 1 in which the president is proposed to participate while the UP chief minister is also scheduled to visit on October 30 or 31," the statement read. "Therefore, in view of the security of the president and the chief minister of Uttar Pradesh, the operation of drones by any private person or organisation will be prohibited from October 29 to November 2," it said. The fire department received more than a dozen calls from Noida and Greater Noida on Diwali, officials said on Tuesday. Chief Fire Officer (CFO) Arun Kumar Singh said, no loss of life was reported in any of the incidents. In two instances, the water tenders and firefighters returned midway after the flames were doused before they arrived at the spot. "Altogether 13 fire incidents were reported from 6 am Monday till 6 am Tuesday. Three fire incidents were reported from homes, including an apartment in a high rise society, while rest were from shops and garbage dumping spots in Noida and Greater Noida," Singh said.
