PCB dismisses rumours about Champions Trophy being moved out of country

The Pakistan Cricket Board has rubbished speculations that the ICC Champions Trophy will be moved out of the country due to delayed construction work at three stadiums that will host the the event, starting February 19. The venues in Pakistan organising the tournament are Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium, Lahore's Gaddafi Stadium and Karachi's National Bank Stadium, while India will play all its matches in Dubai. A PCB source said that the presence of a large International Cricket Council (ICC) delegation, including broadcast, hospitality and event operations officials, is an affirmation that the event is on schedule in Pakistan. "The PCB has spent nearly PKR 12 billion to upgrade our stadiums to make them fitting for an event like the Champions Trophy, which was awarded to us," he said. The source also said that an earlier statement about the stadium's work progress was also given out because of speculation in the media that the event would be moved out because of incomplete work at the

Pakistan penalised for slow over-rate in South Africa Test, docked points

The ICC has fined Pakistan players 25 percent of their match fee and also docked the team five World Test Championship points for maintaining a slow over-rate against South Africa in the second Test at Newlands. South Africa, which will take on Australia in the WTC final at Lord's in June, swept Pakistan 2-0 in the series with a 10-wicket win inside four days in the second test. The ICC said in a statement that match referee Richie Richardson of the West Indies imposed the sanction after Pakistan was ruled to be five overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration. According to the ICC code of conduct, players are fined five percent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time. The teams are also penalized one WTC point for each over short. The ICC also said that Pakistan captain Shan Masood accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing. Pakistan is at No. 8 in the points table just above

Rickelton's double century leads South Africa to 429-5 against Pakistan

Ryan Rickelton smashed his maiden double hundred and Kyle Verreynne made an aggressive half-century as World Test Championship finalist South Africa cruised to 429-5 on Day 2 of the second and final test against Pakistan on Saturday. At lunch, Rickelton was unbeaten on 213 and Verreynne smacked eight fours and four sixes in his 74 not out off 88 balls as they guided South Africa to a strong first innings total by sharing 106-run sixth-wicket unbroken stand. Mohammad Abbas (2-70) got the sole wicket of the session when David Bedingham edged the seamer in Pakistan's fourth over of the morning with the second new ball, giving wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan his fifth catch of the innings. Pakistan twice went for unsuccessful lbw television reviews against Verreynne, who was not only aggressive against the pace but also didn't allow Salman Ali Agha (2-77) to settle down by reverse sweeping the off-spinner. Rickelton, resuming on 176, quietly reached his double century off 265 balls when h

PCB concerned over incomplete renovation at Karachi Stadium ahead of CT

Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is in a scramble to complete the renovation work of the National Stadium ahead of next month's Champions Trophy, and has moved all matches scheduled at the venue to other places. The stadium will play host to the opening match of the ICC marquee event between Pakistan and New Zealand on February 19. Due to the ongoing construction and renovation work it was decided against holding any matches at the NSK as it would only further delay the work and also disturb the players, one official said. The Quaid-e-Azam Trophy final, the premier first-class event in Pakistan, began on Thursday at the smaller UBL Complex here after getting shifted from the National Stadium. The PCB has also announced that the two-Test series against the West Indies later this month would be held in Multan after scheduling the first Test in Karachi after continuing delay in the renovation work remained a cause of concern. Some of the construction work, which was scheduled for a Dece

Shadab turns to Saqlain for revival in fortunes ahead of Champions Trophy

Pakistan's Shadab Khan has revealed he is working closely with former spinner Saqlain Mushtaq in order to rediscover his rhythm and win the trust of the national selectors ahead of the Champions Trophy. The 26-year-old has been out of favour with the national selectors after the World T20 Cup this year and has also not played in the one-day format since the World Cup in India last year. He (Saqlain) has been a successful player and is a qualified coach so he is now helping me out at the high performance centre to find that old touch back in my bowling and also how to further improve my batting power," Shadab said. I miss playing for Pakistan and with the Champions Trophy being held at home and with so much cricket coming up, I want to convince the selectors to recall me to international cricket, Shadab said. Shadab has been a regular in domestic circuit with the recent Champions Cup T20 competition his last assignment. He has faced concerns over his fitness and form. Saqlain, who

Significant milestone: Rizwan, PCB chief Naqvi hail CT scheduling

Pakistan white ball captain Mohammed Rizwan and PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi on Tuesday termed ICC's decision to hold the Champions Trophy in a hybrid model as a significant milestone for the country. Pakistan will play host to an ICC event after 28 years as the last global tournament held here was the 1996 World Cup. "As a cricket loving country, we are all very excited to host the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. It is a great occasion as Pakistan welcomes the first ICC event to its shores in 28 years and especially as we are the defending champions, Rizwan said in a PCB media release. "We eagerly look forward to playing in front of our home crowd, he added. The hybrid model meant that India will play all their matches in Dubai with the marquee clash against Pakistan scheduled on February 23. Naqvi was delighted to see Pakistan hosting a part of the showpiece under the hybrid system. "We are pleased that an agreement has been reached based on the principles of equality and respect, ...

Multan to host back-to-back Tests between Pakistan, West Indies next month

Multan will host back-to-back tests when Pakistan plays the West Indies next month, the domestic cricket board said on Tuesday. With stadiums in Rawalpindi, Lahore and Karachi being upgraded for February's Champions Trophy, it has left the Pakistan Cricket Board with Multan as the only option to host the two-test series against the West Indies. England also played back-to-back tests in Multan in October because of the renovation work in Karachi and Lahore. The West Indies squad arrives on Jan. 6 and will play a three-day warm-up game in Rawalpindi against Pakistan Shaheens. The first test is held from Jan. 17-21 and the second starts on Jan. 25. It will be West Indies' first test series in Pakistan for more than 18 years, although both nations played a test series in the United Arab Emirates in 2016 when UAE was Pakistan's home venue. West Indies named uncapped batter Amir Jangoo in its 15-strong squad after he smashed a century on his ODI debut against Bangladesh earlier this ...
