New Parliament building symbol of PM's commitment towards development: EAM

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar on Friday said the new Parliament building is a symbol of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's firm commitment towards national development. Jaishankar said this while interacting with citizens, including doctors, government employees, members of social organisations and youngsters, as part of the "Sampark se Samarthan" campaign of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in the New Delhi area. Addressing a gathering of Delhi University (DU) students, he said youngsters have to contribute significantly in India's progress story, they will have to participate in the country's economic development and cooperate in bringing a clean change in politics. Oppn parties' wish for 2024 polls will wash away like Bihar bridge: BJP

The BJP on Thursday took a swipe at opposition parties over their meeting in Bihar on June 23, saying they may be looking for support in each other but their wish will wash away in the 2024 Lok Sabha polls like the Rs 1,750-crore bridge which collapsed in the state recently. Union Minister and party leader Smriti Irani also targeted the Congress over Rahul Gandhi's claim of running "mohabbat ki dukan" (shop of love) and asked if this "mohabbat" meant denouncing the Hindu way of life, killing of Sikhs, partnering with those who wish ill for India and seeking outside intervention to harm India's democracy. "What kind of love is this which is not for the country but for your politics. It does not say anything when 'Kerala Story' is shown," she said at a press conference. Does this love not extend to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, she asked, lauding his spirit of "service", and added that she will be surprised if the Congress has any kind word for him. "It is incumbent upon the Congress

Map in India's new Parliament a cultural one, not political: PM Prachanda

Nepal's Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda' on Wednesday said that he raised the issue relating to the 'Akhanda Bharat' map kept in India's new Parliament during his visit to New Delhi and the Indian side clarified that it was a cultural map and not a political one. Prachanda made the remarks in Parliament when the opposition lawmakers slammed him for not raising the issue of 'Akhanda Bharat' map, which, they claimed, also consists of Nepal's territory. "While talking about the map during my India visit, the Indian side said it was a cultural map, not a political one. Further study should be carried out on the issue," he said while responding to the questions raised by the lawmakers. Prachanda said he mentioned the map during his meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said it was a cultural map not a political one. India has downplayed the issue of a mural in the new Parliament building, describing it as an artwork that depicted the spread of the prehistoric Ashok

While Parliament was being inaugurated, women faced police action: Congress

Congress leader Anand Sharma on Monday attacked the central government saying while the country celebrated inauguration of the new Parliament, women wrestlers were beaten on road by police. The country saw two pictures on Sunday - one of the inauguration of the new parliament building and the other depicting misbehaviour with women wrestlers who had been agitating at Jantar Mantar, he said. As he made the remark, the former Union minister demanded action against Wrestling Federation of India chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh, who has been accused of sexual harassment by women wrestlers. Singh was earlier booked in two FIRs by the Delhi Police, one of them for allegedly sexually harassing a minor girl. "In the last nine years, what should have happened was not done and what should not have been done was done by the Modi government," Sharma said at a press conference at PCC office here. Manner of inaugurating new Parl building unbecoming of nation: Kerala CM

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Sunday said the inauguration of the new Parliament building was carried out like a religious function which was unbecoming of our nation. Vijayan said a government function of this nature ought not to have been conducted in the manner of a religious event. Furthermore, Indian President Droupadi Murmu should have been made a part of it, the CM said. "What happened today in Parliament, the manner it was conducted in, like a religious function, not making the President a part of it, all of it was unbecoming of our nation," he said, speaking at an event held in memory of former MP and late LJD leader M P Veerendra Kumar. Earlier in the day, both the ruling-CPI(M) in Kerala and the Opposition Congress in the state criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP on the inauguration of the new Parliament building and called it a "black day" for Indian democracy and an attempt at creating a parallel history.
