Bajaj Auto on Friday said its total vehicle sales, including sale of commercial vehicles, declined 15 per cent to 3,41,648 units in August. The company had reported total sales of 4,01,595 vehicles in August last year. The total domestic sales dropped 20 per cent to 2,05,100 units in the previous month as compared to 2,56,755 units sold in August 2022, Bajaj Auto Ltd said in a statement. Total vehicle exports fell 6 per cent year-on-year to 1,36,548 units in August from 1,44,840 units shipped to the overseas markets in the year-ago period, it said. Its total two-wheeler sales declined 20 per cent to 2,85,031 units in the previous month from 3,55,625 units sold in August 2022. Two-wheeler exports, however, increased 2 per cent to 1,24,211 units in August 2023 as against 1,21,787 units in the same month last year.
Domestic passenger vehicle sales are expected to cross 10 lakh mark in the festive period this year with demand remaining robust, especially for utility vehicles. The 68-day festive period this year falls between August 17 and November 14. Few days in between are not considered auspicious for buying. In an interaction with PTI, Maruti Suzuki India Senior Executive Officer (Marketing and Sales) Shashank Srivastava said that usually the festive season sales account for around 22-26 per cent of the overall sales during a year. "With the overall passenger vehicle sales expected to be in the range of 40 lakh units this fiscal, the festive season is expected to witness sales of around 1 million units," he said. Domestic passenger vehicles wholesales registered a 2.94 per cent year-on-year increase in July at 3,02,521 units, the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers said on Thursday. As per the latest data issued by the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM), dispatches of passenger vehicles (PVs) from manufacturers to dealers were at 2,93,865 units in July 2022. Two-wheeler domestic wholesales were down at 12,82,054 units last month, as against 13,81,303 units in July 2022. Three-wheeler wholesales were higher at 56,034 units, as compared to 31,324 units in the year-ago month. Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd on Thursday reported a 22 per cent increase in passenger vehicle sales at 32,886 units in May, as compared to the same month last year. The company had posted a total passenger vehicle sales of 26,904 units in May 2022, Mahindra & Mahindra (M&M) said in a regulatory filing. Utility vehicles sales last month were at 32,883 units, as against 26,632 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 23 per cent, it added. Sales of cars and vans were at 3 units as compared to 272 units in May last year. "We continue our growth trend, backed by strong demand in SUVs," M&M President, Automotive Division Veejay Nakra said. He, however, said, "The sales volume for both SUVs and 'Pik-Ups' were restricted by a short-term disruption in engine-related parts at the supplier-end. The semiconductor supply constraints on specific parts like Air Bag ECU, continued during the month too." Total exports were at 2,616 units last month, up 29 per cent from 2,028 units in May .
The country's largest carmaker Maruti Suzuki India (MSI) on Thursday reported 10 per cent increase in total wholesales at 1,78,083 units in May. The company had sold 1,61,413 units in May 2022, MSI said in a statement. Last month, the company's domestic sales rose 13 per cent to 1,51,606 units as against 1,34,222 units in May 2022, it added. Total domestic passenger vehicle sales were higher 15 per cent to 1,43,708 units as compared with 1,24,474 units in the same month last year. Sales of mini cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, fell 30 per cent to 12,236 units as compared with 17,408 units in the year-ago period. Compact cars sales, including models such as Swift, Celerio, Ignis, Baleno and Dzire, increased 5 per cent to 71,419 units as against 67,947 units in May 2022.
