States' contribution mandatory in phase 2 of PMAY(Urban) scheme: Khattar

Union minister Manohar Lal Khattar on Monday said that states' contribution has been made mandatory under the second phase of the Pradhan Mantari Awas Yojana (Urban) for the smooth functioning of the government's ambitious housing scheme. Addressing a press conference on 100 days of the Modi government, the Union housing and urban affairs minister said that there was no such provision in place earlier, adding that in the PMAY (U) 2.0, some new parameters have been added. The minister said that the Modi government in its first Cabinet meeting after the Lok Sabha elections this year approved PMAY-U 2.0 for construction of additional one crore houses for eligible urban poor and middle-class families over the next five years. "In PMAY 2.0, some parameters have been changed. States' contributions have been mandatory as there were some difficulties during the first phase of this housing scheme," Khattar said. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 was launched by Prime Minister Narend

Centre approves 800,000 PMAY houses in rural areas of Chhatisgarh

The Centre has sanctioned construction of more than 8 lakh houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) in rural areas of Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Vishnu Deo Sai said on Wednesday. The CM also informed that his government, which assumed office nine months ago, has requested the Centre to approve houses under PMAY separately for surrendered Naxalites and people affected by Maoist violence in the state. Slamming the previous Congress government in Chhattisgarh (2018-23), he alleged it failed to implement the scheme in the state, as a result 18 lakh families were deprived of pucca (concrete) houses. "The Bhupesh Baghel-led Congress dispensation had been inactive in implementing the housing scheme and therefore 18 lakh families could not get homes under it. The Baghel government did not disburse the state's share of 40 per cent for the scheme as the 'PM' word was linked to it and they were scared the credit will go to the BJP government (at the Centre) and Prime Minister Narend

Parl panel suggests modifying PMAY-U after impact assessment study

A parliamentary panel has recommended to the government to conduct an impact assessment study of its urban housing scheme and explore the feasibility of extending it with modifications or formulating another similar one to benefit the urban poor at large to achieve the objective of 'Housing for All'. The Standing Committee on Housing and Urban Affairs also sought to know the number of slums de-notified since the implementation of the In-Situ Slum Redevelopment (ISSR) vertical of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban (PMAY-U) and observed that the housing ministry is duty-bound to maintain the data pertaining to the outcome of its mission and schemes. The report of the committee, chaired by Rajiv Ranjan Singh, was presented in Lok Sabha on Monday. The report stated that the Union Housing and Urban Affairs (HUA) Ministry has accepted that it had not conducted any independent urban housing need assessment study of the PMAY-U. The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) housing scheme has become a major instrument of socio-economic change in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday even as he slammed the political culture of 'Revdi' or freebies. He was speaking after conducting, virtually, the 'grih pravesh' ceremony of 4.51 lakh beneficiaries of the PMAY in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district by pressing a remote button. The Grih Pravesh ceremony is conducted at the time of entering one's new house. "Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana has become a major medium of bringing socio-economic change in the country," he said. Earlier governments made promises and claims of Garibi Hatao (poverty alleviation). It was only a political gimmick," the PM claimed. Every taxpayer must be thinking (today) that as I am celebrating Diwali, the poor brothers in MP too are rejoicing during the festival of light. He is getting a pukka house. PMAY has become major medium for ushering in socio-economic change: PM Modi

The Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojna (PMAY) has become a "major medium for bringing in socio-economic change" in the country, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Saturday. He was speaking after conducting, virtually, the 'grih pravesh' ceremony of 4.51 lakh beneficiaries of the scheme in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district by pressing a remote button. Earlier governments did not do anything for the poor except coining the slogan of a poverty removal and delayed all such schemes, he alleged. These governments had no time for providing basic amenities to people, he said. The houses under PMAY have all facilities like electricity, water connection, toilet and gas connection, and will give strength to beneficiaries to fulfil their dreams, the prime minister said. Criticising those indulging in distributing freebies, Modi said taxpayers will be happy to see that people are getting houses of their own under the PMAY. People, however, become unhappy due to the 'Revdi' culture in the country, he .
