Rajasthan's five trainee sub-inspectors arrested for role in paper leak

Five trainee sub-inspectors, including two women, who had been detained earlier for questioning, were arrested on Sunday by the Special Operations Group (SOG) for their alleged involvement in a paper leak incident of the sub-inspector recruitment exam, officials said. All five accused were produced before a court from where they were sent for police remand till September 7, they said. According to an official statement, among the arrested trainees include Shobha Raika and her brother Devesh Raima. Both are children of former Rajasthan Public Service Commission member, Ramuram Raika. Other three trainees include Manju Devi, Avinash Palsania and Vijendra Kumar, the statement read. All five trainees were taken into custody from Rajasthan Police Academy (RPA) and brought to the SOG office for interrogation on Saturday. Bangladesh police orders return of looted arms, ammunition by Sep 3: Report

Bangladesh police on Sunday ordered citizens to return by September 3 all arms and ammunition looted from police stations during the recent violence which led to prime minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster, according to media reports. The violence that hit the country during the massive quota reform protests saw widespread attacks and looting of police stations across the country, The Daily Star newspaper reported. In a directive, the Police Headquarters said looted arms and ammunition of police must be returned by Tuesday. By Saturday, law enforcement authorities had recovered a total of 3,872 weapons of various types, looted from police stations and offices during the recent unrest, the report said. In addition, as many as 286,216 rounds of bullets, 22,201 teargas shells, and 2,139 stun grenades were also recovered, it said. Jharkhand govt to provide support to increase women's share in state police

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Saturday said his government will provide all required support to increase the participation of women in state police up to 50 per cent in the coming days. Addressing the concluding ceremony of two-day state-level women police conference, he emphasised the need for framing a rule in a bid to promote women as in-charge of police stations. "Women are capable of contributing equally as men not only in the police department but in all aspects of society. We need to bridge the gap. I want women police personnel to progress in such a way that their participation increases up to 50 per cent from the existing 5-6 per cent in state police. NDRF to join search operations for missing aircraft in J'khand's Seraikela

A NDRF team will join the search operation in Jharkhand's Seraikela-Kharswan district on Wednesday to trace a two-seater aircraft that went missing after it took off from an aerodrome here, a police officer said. Search operations for the missing aircraft were carried out on Tuesday till midnight, Sub-Divisional Police Officer (Chandil) Sunil Kumar Rajwar told PTI. The SDPO said NDRF team from Ranchi will join in the search operation on Wednesday. A massive search operation is being conducted in Chandil dam in Seraikela-Kharswan district after locals claimed that they saw the debris of the aircraft in the reservoir, Superintendent of Police (Seraikela-Kharswan) Mukesh Kumar Lunayat told PTI. 44 officers killed in violence during quota protests: Bangladesh police

At least 44 policemen were killed in the violence that hit Bangladesh during the massive quota reform protests that led to prime minister Sheikh Hasina's ouster, the police said on Sunday. Hasina, 76, resigned and fled to India on August 5 following the massive protest by students against a controversial quota system in government jobs. The media wing of the police headquarters said that 44 police personnel were killed in the conflict, leading Bengali-language newspaper Prothom Alo reported. The reported deaths of the police officers took place between July 20 and August 14, it said. The report said that 25 police personnel were killed on the day Hasina fled to India -- the highest number of policemen deaths recorded during the conflicts -- while 15 others died the previous day on August 4. Apart from this, two policemen died while undergoing treatment on August 20, one on August 21 and one on August 14. The highest toll was recorded in the constable-rank police personnel -- 21.

Police on Wednesday filed a charge sheet running into 1 lakh pages against 15 accused in the Rajkot game zone fire tragedy that killed 27 persons in May. "Statements of 365 witnesses have been recorded. Altogether, 15 persons, including co-owners of TRP game zone and officials of Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) have been arrested," said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime), Parthrajsinh Gohil. A court here on Tuesday remanded Mihir Shah, the prime accused in the BMW hit-and-run case, in 14-day judicial custody. Shah, 24, was arrested on July 9, two days after he allegedly rammed his BMW car into a two-wheeler, killing a woman, identified as Kaveri Nakhwa (45), and leaving her husband, Pradeep, injured in Mumbai's Worli area. The Delhi Police Monday filed a supplementary charge sheet before a court here in connection with the Parliament security breach last year on the anniversary of the 2001 terror attack. The police filed the charge sheet before Additional Sessions Judge Hardeep Kaur after obtaining requisite sanctions to prosecute all the accused under the stringent Unlawful Activates (Prevention) Act (UAPA). Five people were arrested on Friday for allegedly being involved in the illegal sale and purchase of a suspected radioactive device, police said here. They said two of them were nabbed from Dehradun's Rajpur area, two from Madhya Pradesh and one from Delhi. Kathua attack: Searches intensify as DGP Swain reviews ongoing operation

A massive search operation was underway on Tuesday to track down the terrorists behind the deadly attack on an Army patrol party in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district, as Director General of Police R R Swain flew to the area to oversee the operation on the ground. Rs 38.25 cr swindled in cyber fraud across India in two months: Police

The police have arrested 28 people, including nine women in the last two months, for allegedly duping people by offering investment opportunities in the share market, police said on Monday. The police said Rs 38.25 crore has been swindled in separate incidents of cyber fraud in the past two months. During the investigation, the police recovered Rs 27,700 in cash, three laptops, 24 chequebooks, an iPOS machine, 15 mobile phones and 95 SIM cards from their possession, DCP cyber Siddhant Jain said. The police said 10,472 complaints and 540 cases are lodged against the accused across the country. Of these, 26 cases are registered in Haryana, including six in Gurugram.
